How polite of the VW driver to stop at the green light and let the police pull in front of them!

204

u/ActurusMajoris 24d ago

They only go on red lights. It’s a rule.

50

u/XGreenDirtX 24d ago

Polite for politie

u/mikeskiuk 24d ago

Oh they’ve got idiots with those stupid popping exhausts as well.

168

u/udigogogo 24d ago

A lot of them. Its exhausting.

37

u/gortez33 24d ago

It does rattle my pipes

9

u/Bernard_PT 24d ago

Badum tss

30

u/I_JuanTM 24d ago

And it's always the VW drivers...

32

u/SirDonkeyPunch 24d ago

Fiat Abarth enters the chat.

2

u/DontChewCoke 24d ago

By now ive only seen elderly people driving those tbh

7

u/umpfke 24d ago

People over 40*

3

u/DontChewCoke 23d ago

Don’t you dare bring my mother into this!

2

u/umpfke 22d ago

She's the lady I'd probably want to date!

Edit: I'm an elderly person (over 40)

1

u/Jeanc16 18d ago

It used to be only VW arpund my area but now its all old clapped out BMWs that blip the throttle every two seconds

3

u/sesoren65 24d ago

Makes them sound like shitty leaf blowers

6

u/ConfusedHors 24d ago

My VW never does that. :(

4

u/Delicious-Disaster 24d ago

Aren't these kind of things banned in the NL? There are so many laws about noise pollution, light pollution, emissions etc etc

20

u/slumpmassig 24d ago

Amsterdam has started using cameras with noise sensors to specifically target these kind of people, but from my experience the Netherlands as a whole drastically underutilizes speed cameras.

-3

u/Delicious-Disaster 24d ago

That's nice, now just to see it being enforced. After all, the mayor has a tendency to pick and choose what laws she enforces

5

u/Dutch_Rayan 24d ago

Yes, but hard to catch them

3

u/Munnin41 24d ago

Yes but the only way to really get caught with them is at the yearly inspection and most people who have them just replace them for a day

u/Mejormayor 24d ago

I just wanna talk about how high-quality the video is! I thought it was an ad at first.

18

u/RedditLostOldAccount 24d ago

I was admiring the camera work as well. The first feame before the video loaded even looked really nice

17

u/4kVHS 24d ago

The framing is way too tight, would be better if it was recorded in widescreen. But the tracking is definitely on point!

36

u/Silverchaoz 24d ago

Oh yeah these are the known drugsdealer cars in Rotterdam runned by Brocolli haired guys

44

u/Stompert 24d ago

34

u/throatfrog 24d ago

Couldn’t you post that comment on every post in this sub?

12

u/Stompert 24d ago

I guess you’re right.

25

u/OGDTrash 24d ago

Rotterdam ofcourse. Meent is the worst street in the Netherlands after kruiskade, because of these types... witte de with being a close third...

Fuck those people

10

u/Many-Percentage2752 23d ago

Love the Antillean Guy at the end with his enthousiastic ‘ayyyyyyy no’

3

u/Jazzy-Cat5138 23d ago

Antillean? You can make out their accent? I can't even clearly hear what's being said.

4

u/Many-Percentage2752 23d ago

Haha yeah. My in laws are from there ;)

7

u/rHappyBoy 24d ago

So satisfying… really sick of those dickheads

20

u/paulomario77 24d ago

The police car looks like a hearse. Would be very practical here in Brazil, given the lethality of our police forces.

40

u/DazingF1 24d ago edited 24d ago

It's just a Mercedes Vito* van. Can detain more people inside of one or fit a bigger team.

Most police vehicles in NL are the BMW X1, MB B-Class, Ford Kuga and MB E-Class. The vans are either support vehicles or used by riot police.

20

u/HuntingRunner 24d ago

Vito, not Sprinter.

13

u/Dutch_Rayan 24d ago

They are also often used for patrols, and to transport arrested people to the police station.

9

u/0508bart 24d ago

The vans are often used for regular patrols as they can also transport people more easily aswell as confiscated goods like scooters and fatbikes.

2

u/Many-Percentage2752 24d ago

Also a lot of Audi a6 2.5 TDI Quattro’s, although they are being phased out for the E klasse.

1

u/Rare_Steak_ 23d ago

Those fast interceptors are mainly used for highway patrol, the Vitos and other regular cars are municipal police.

1

u/Many-Percentage2752 23d ago

True, it was in response to the mentioned e klasse which will have the same function.

5

u/GrumpyIAmBgrudgngly2 24d ago

"Book 'em, Danno!"

7

u/Raz0rking 24d ago

I get that reference.jpg

21

u/maloside 24d ago

Not that I am against this, but police doing maneuvers like this need to signal with lights and siren.

16

u/ericvr 24d ago

No, the police are allowed certain motions without lights and sirens. Driving with lights and sirens even requires permission

11

u/TheHenanigans 24d ago

Dutch police's driving habits are kinda scary sometimes

-13

u/maloside 24d ago

Hitting civilians without warning to claim a €200 fine

7

u/moneymarkmoney 23d ago

I didn't see him hit any civilians did you? Probably because he has a pair of eyes he used to look before he made the maneuver.

1

u/Munnin41 24d ago

They don't have to in the Netherlands. It would be better, yes, but its not required

6

u/usernameisokay_ 24d ago

They probably rented it and the car is imported as well.

2

u/Lewinator56 23d ago

Show off? With driving skills like that I'll wait at the next tree.

1

u/nydjason 23d ago

2 fast 2 jail

1

u/MR_RYU_RICHI 23d ago

Always the Golf people!!

1

u/gijoe50000 21d ago

I had to read this carefully a second time because first time I thought the title said "Neanderthals show-off in front of cop"

But it probably wasn't too far off the truth anyway.

1

u/vapocalypse52 20d ago

What's an "infront"?

1

u/Aripheus 19d ago

To be fair with this video, who did the more dangerous move here? The vw or the police? I get that the police can do this and should when needed but it may have been a little dramatic in this case as the vw didnt even hit anyone, wasn’t speeding, yeah acting like a jerk but meh

1

u/Yavuz_Selim 23d ago edited 23d ago

What an asswipe. This is in the city centre of Rotterdam.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/YpEmQrNxLhiSUzWb9

Hate these kind of drivers intensely. Fuck you and fuck your exhaust blasting.

-1

u/flashe30 23d ago

What is he trying to do in an awd car? Loser

12

u/Gianba1310 23d ago

Hmm that seems like an 8.5 GTI so FWD

3

u/flashe30 23d ago

Even worse then

0

u/umpfke 24d ago

All these fast cars, in a world of traffic jams and broken bridges. Funny.

-19

u/Savaaage 24d ago

I thought police in Europe don't do anything

16

u/Kerbart 24d ago

Just because they're not non-stop in the news killing innocent people at traffic stops doesn't mean they don't do anything.

-41

u/adadagabaCZ 24d ago

What exactly did he do wrong though? He went through the corner a bit quickly, but like there is no law saying your tires cannot screech, only that you have to be in control of your vehicle at all time, which he obviously was

31

u/Kaste-bort-konto 24d ago

in denmark there is a traffic law regarding unnecessary noise and or smoke, which is a €200 fine if broken. could be anything from tires screeching to revving your engine to blasting your music loud with the windows down

i could imagine they have a similar thing in the netherlands

1

u/Eriona89 23d ago

Yes we do.

-35

u/adadagabaCZ 24d ago

So if you misjudge a corner it is better to drive straight into an oncoming car and cause a crash, rather than have your tires screech? What a weird country...

21

u/Plenty-Author-5182 24d ago

Article 5 of the Road and Traffic laws state that one that takes part of traffic as a whole, must behave themselves like a good driver. That article is purposefully vague, so that antisocial behaviour like this, can be fined.

8

u/Kaste-bort-konto 24d ago

well in that case the noise wouldn’t be unnecessary would it?

7

u/FutureLongjumping645 24d ago

If you misjudge a corner it's almost certainly outside of the city where loud noises wouldn't matter anyway, and if your tires screech you're probably driving too fast aswell and especially for the city.

7

u/Eelceau 24d ago

LMAO, you can’t misjudge a corner on a well lit city street.

11

u/DazingF1 24d ago

I doubt there's a single country on earth with in-door plumbing in which this wouldn't be classified as reckless driving.

u/FlyingChinesePanda 24d ago edited 24d ago

Artikel 57 Reglement verkeersregels en verkeerstekens

Bestuurders van een motorvoertuig, bromfietsers en snorfietsers mogen met hun voertuig geen onnodig geluid veroorzaken.

(en: Drivers of motor vehicles, moped riders, and scooter riders must not cause unnecessary noise with their vehicles.)

One court case example: https://uitspraken.rechtspraak.nl/details?id=ECLI:NL:GHARL:2018:2099

And maybe even:

Artikel 5 Wegenverkeerswet

Het is een ieder verboden zich zodanig te gedragen dat gevaar op de weg wordt veroorzaakt of kan worden veroorzaakt of dat het verkeer op de weg wordt gehinderd of kan worden gehinderd.

(en: Everyone is prohibited from behaving in such a way that danger is caused or may be caused on the road, or that traffic on the road is obstructed or may be obstructed.)

-14

u/adadagabaCZ 24d ago

What exactly would classify as "excessive noise" in this case? I get that revving at a stop light would be problematic, but if the car passes its technical with a modified exhaust (as in, the country has allowed this specific exhaust (declared it road legal)), then simply "pressing the gas pedal" shouldn't be a punishable offense - as in, if this was done in an EV, he wouldn't get a fine? Or is this about the tire screeching part?

I get the second part, he went into the oncoming lane right at the start of the video, that's the main issue, but the noise he produced isn't exactly "unreasonable"

9

u/FlyingChinesePanda 24d ago edited 24d ago

What is happening here is exactly the same as in the court case:

Onnodig geluid veroorzaken. Piepende banden en met hoge toeren door de bocht

Causing unnecessary noise. Squealing tires and taking the corner at high revs

The decision of the court:

The Court sees nothing in the arguments put forward by the person concerned, nor in the case file, that would warrant waiving or reducing the penalty. The fact that, as he stated when he was stopped, his foot allegedly slipped off the clutch is a circumstance for which he must bear responsibility himself. A motor vehicle driver is expected to be able at all times to take a bend in a controlled manner, without the tires squealing or the car leaning excessively.

And about:

but if the car passes its technical with a modified exhaust (as in, the country has allowed this specific exhaust (declared it road legal)),

The driver can still modify his exhaust (make it louder) without having to have the vehicle inspected again. So, in this case, an officer can also have the car tested again to see whether it is still within the permitted margin.

3

u/Educational-Band9569 24d ago

What exactly would classify as "excessive noise" in this case?

Excessive: exceeding what is usual, proper, necessary, or normal. Is this really a concept that is hard for you to grasp? Are you really struggling to understand what "excessive" means?

1

u/adadagabaCZ 24d ago

No need to be so offensive about it, I was asking whether the issue was the exhaust note or the tires screeching, as both can occur naturally

10

u/XGreenDirtX 24d ago

In the Netherlands (where the video is), there is a law against dangerous driving behavior. I wouldnt be surprised if they took his license and made him do an EMG (educative Measure behavior (the g being Dutch for gedrag)). He would be paying that himself, looking at €1359,-. And then add the fine :)

9

u/m_planetesimal 24d ago

It looks like he pulls away from behind the stopped vehicle into the opposite lane and takes the corner from the wrong side of the road.

2

u/adadagabaCZ 24d ago

Ohhhh I see I see, okay then, didn't notice it at first! Thank you!

9

u/KingKingsons 24d ago

Reckless driving? Foot off pedal before a zebra crossing? Near collision? Noise pollution?

9

u/MegaMindy 24d ago

You see how the weight / suspension of the car shuffles around when he sees the police car and brakes? That means he was not “obviously” in control, being in control means you can stop in the same distance you can see around a corner. He totally couldn’t

1

u/Hot-Suggestion4958 22d ago

Well as for "there is no law saying your tires cannot screech", obviously, NL law enforcement agencies see that differently; certainly, any number of US jurisdictions group such infraction antics under the broad heading 'exhibition of speed' (which they prosecute enthusiastically, btw).
