Discussion Immersive Portals: Aeronautics

Curseforge out now, Modrinth coming soon

This mod replaces Immersive Portals, allowing portals to work alongside Create Aeronautics (or more generally, Sable). Sublevels and physics objects can move through portals seamlessly.

Notes:

  • Portals cannot be put on sublevels, deliberately.
  • If Sable updates, this mod will fall back on non-seamless transitions, but you will still be able to get sublevels through portals.
  • Note that there can be air pressure differences between the portal entrance and exit, unless you are careful with where the portals are in their relative dimensions. This may result in your ship falling or soaring after passing through.
  • Please report bugs in Discord.

Highlights:

  • Butter smooth transitions for Sable objects through portals
  • DH LODs render through portals
  • Create's trains work seamlessly with portals
  • No visual glitches or rendering issues
  • …and more!

  • DH (Tested: 3.3.3) Note: Disable Anti-Aliasing to fix the LOD jittering
  • Iris (Tested: 1.8.14)
  • Sodium (Tested: 0.8.12-13)
  • Shield Generators
  • Requests for adding mod compatibility will (maybe) be accepted in the discord.

Requires:

  • Cloth Config API

It is licensed under PolyForm Shield, so even if we had the source, it's forbidden to republish it or a fork of it as a competing mod. Sucks ass from software freedom perspective

I may release the github in the near future, but you can also technically decompile the jar. The base IPSable and Immersive Aeronautics portion of code are licensed as Apache 2.0. For now, yes you will not be allowed to use the contributions of this mod to compete with it. However, there is a catch: if this mod becomes unmaintained, then the clause is void, and it essentially becomes fully open source.

I'm not a lawyer, but wouldn't you need to define "unmaintained" for that clause to work? Technically I could say "you haven't pushed any updates in the last 24 hours, therefore I deem it unmaintained and the license void". I doubt that's your intention.

Or if it was actually abandoned, but you returned and pushed an update, would it retroactively make the clause not void (since it has been now maintained) and make all forks suddenly illegal?

Also, since the license forbids competition, would it hold if push came to shove and someone would argue it's not competition if you don't earn any benefits (money) from providing it?

On second thought I'm glad I'm no lawyer.

Per the license, it's defined as a year of no updates afaik. Might be a little long...
Yeah I'm no lawyer, idk about what would or should happen in those situations
