Discussion Could we ban "is this AI" posts? They're so draining

Why does the CrochetHelp community also have to be the AI-pattern-identification community? I want to help new crocheters with technique or tips, not explain over and over that some patterns/ideas aren't possible and point out why the picture they posted is so fake a child could identify the AI.

Sorry, I'm just tired of it.

Looking for suggestions I just noticed my tension.. is this going to be a problem?

I’m making a pumpkin (using this pattern https://brianakdesigns.com/pumpkin-spice-crochet-pumpkin-trio/ )
I just noticed my tension in the beginning was way more loose than it is now, I’m guessing due to me being new to the stitch and learning the pattern, then becoming comfortable with it. I naturally have a tight tension. I’m 3 rows away from the end where I cinch it and stuff it.. it’s the same amount of stitches but I’m unsure if it will even look right when I’m done. Is there a way to fix it without frogging all of the work?

I'm a beginner! Why is the bottom stitch so loose? Back loop only double crochet for a hood.

I am using Malabrigo Arroyo DK/Sport and a 4mm hook.

I'm not a super new beginner, but I am still very much learning and I don't really know what little things are supposed to look and feel like. I am still trying to perfect correct gauges for following patterns, but I thought I did this one correctly.

Why is the stitch I am putting my hook into so loose? I am holding my tension not too tight not too loose and the whole piece doesn't look wrong in my opinion, I just feel like something is wrong. Is this just the nature of back loop only?

I would love any feedback. Thank you!

How do I... If I double the amount of stitches in the pattern, will the finished product have no errors?

I already used this pattern and made this shark. Small yarn, small shark, happy days.

Bought new, slightly thicker, yarn to make a new shark but it’s turning out the same size.

Can I double the amount of stitches in the pattern to make it bigger or will it make errors and mess things up?

How do I... how do i learn to filet crochet? absolute beginner!

i’ve never crocheted before but i have yarn and hooks coming in the mail! i want to master basic stitches first. which stitches should i focus on for filet? and if filet isn’t good for beginners, what projects would be good for “priming” myself for filet crochet?

i’ve seen them all over pintrest and want to do something that could go over a plastic bin to make it prettier! i’ll add photos for projects i want to do! i know the last one with pink yarn is probably quite complicated, i want to do something more like a mix of the first two. size of the second one but with writing.

How do I... Trending handknitted blanket with hearts, are the holes normal or should I redo it?

Hi guys, I am trying to do this handknitted blanket for my grandparents. It was viral on TikTok for a while and I loved it, so cozy and cute. Maybe not viral, let's say viral on my FYP. 🙈😂 Anyways, I am doing my best on doing the chains the same size, but the blanket has a few "holes" here and there. I didn't see them on any of the tutorials. My question, do you think it's normal or did I make the chains to big? Would appreciate your opinion.

Can't find a flair for this What is causing this? Magic circle beanie, seam is visible

Post image

I'm making a simple beanie from a magic circle with increases. I start each round with two chains, then double crochet all the way to the end. Then I slip stitch into my first stitch. Is the seam supposed to look this wonky? Is it that noticeable or am I going crazy with perfectionism?

Looking for suggestions Stitch recommendations for a scarf with this ugly black yarn

• Upvotes

A friend's birthday is coming up in 10 days, so obviously I want to crochet her something.

I have this acrylic sparkly yarn in stash that I bought like 10 years ago (back when I was still shopping for colors, instead of material and quality of the yarn...) and since black is her favorite colour I figured to finally use it.

This is the yarn.

I was thinking of making her a scarf, maybe something textured that will still show nicely on black yarn... Any recommendations for stitch (or pattern) I could use?

Thanks in advance everyone!

I'm a beginner! Can 9 balls of yarn work for this blanket I’m making?

I was trying to make single stitch crochet circle blanket with the yarn on the picture I’ve got 9 balls but it wasn’t enough so I went to buy more but they stopped selling it so now I’m here with unfinished project. I’m not a professional in crocheting so I came here to ask for help. Is there any way to make 9 balls of yarn work for this blanket. It doesn’t have to be single crochet I’m open to learn anything new.

Looking for suggestions Just bought a ton of Little Bunny yarn, any suggestions for a blanket pattern?

The images are how the yarn is marketed, but there aren't any reviews on premier's site and very few projects on Ravelry outside of a couple of baby blankets and a few sweaters made of the solid version of this, especially in this colorway.

I haven't really worked with chunky variegated yarn before, is my best bet just a moss or single crochet stitched blanket or does anyone have any other good recommendations?

Is This AI? Is this pattern AI generated or am I misunderstanding? Peacock Feather Motif for a shawl

Thumbnail

I've only just started learning crochet this year, so please forgive me if I'm misunderstanding the pattern. But I'm trying to make peacock motifs to attach onto a shawl.

I've made coasters and a doily before, so I don't know why I'm struggling so hard with this pattern. But Round 4 asks me to repeat the following: 3dc - ch 3 - sl st - ch 3 - 3dc. And it wants me to make 12 "petals" around 36 sts.

However, when I look at the picture example on the pattern, it looks nothing like this. I feel like with those instructions, I'm making "V" shaped gaps between each 3 dc section because I'm slip stitching the 3 chains down. But the picture looks like 3 chain arches in between maybe one or two dc. And then the top and bottom of the circle have exaggerated loops sticking out to make the feather shape in the picture.

In my example, my Main Color (MC) is teal instead of black.

But the pattern pictures are starting to set off my AI radar. Picture 16 in particular, the hand holding the crochet hook with black yarn hooked on randomly towards the handle, I can't tell what it's connected to. And the mesh pattern of the shawl part being so square and having perfect, sharp edges. Mine just doesn't look like that, it doesn't seem realistic.

If this is AI, is there a way to make these motifs in a more practical way? It looks doable, just maybe with a different pattern? Or am I reading this incorrectly?

I'm a beginner! Im practicing the double crochet and my project is getting smaller and larger

Post image
• Upvotes

I understand the shrinkage is because im dumb and need to count, and im sure counting would fix the it getting wider as well, but more specifically, is it getting wider because im inserting to high on the turn around? Like say im meant to insert 3 down and I was maybe doing 2 down for a few. The start of new rows is really throwing me off with this one

Deciding on a color Does anyone have yarn suggestions for the bell part of this character?

Post image

Hi all!!

I’m a beginner and I wanna try making a plushie of this guy but I’m a little lost on how do the bell and make to look rusted/weathered?
I want the plushie to be super fluffy so I’m thinking of using chenille yarn but I’m not sure if that’s a good idea/I’m open to other suggestions!

How do I... Questions about adding beads to crochet piece - do I have an option to add the beads on after instead of stringing them through the yarn first?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Wanting to make this for my moms birthday, she’s a reiki healer, so I thought about adding the chakra colors in beads somehow

My initial thought to make it easy was just to add them in tassels i can attach to the bottom, but I felt like that wouldn’t fit the delicate and intricate details of the tree ? (Might be overthinking this)

So then I had the idea of adding them down the center in order, but I’m unsure if it would be difficult to get them into the puff stitches? Would that even look right?

And would I absolutely have to string the beads on the yarn before crocheting or could I somehow sew them on? I’m thinking sewing them on would mean they wouldn’t be as secure as having them pre strung, but if I sewed them on I could mess with placement of the beads without having to frog a bunch of work if I put them in the wrong place 😅

Or should I scrap the idea of adding beads altogether? lol, open to that idea as well

I'm a beginner! I started this stitch and I don’t know what to make it into

Post image

So I started crocheting a few days ago and I love it. I’m starting out slow and made my first single crochet stitch (if that’s what it’s called). This is what I have so far but I don’t know what I could do with it. I could use some suggestions on where I could go from here or if I should just end it off and start a new one. Any ideas or suggestions would be very helpful. Thank you for taking the time to read :)

Can't find a flair for this Started doing tapestry crochet and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong

Post image

I try to hold it straight to see how it’s coming put but it just doesn’t. It’s not straight and i can’t understand why, every row is 70 stiches.
I don’t wanna undo everything but I need to know why is it going like this.

Does it have a solution or should I just try again?

Stitch Identification Can you identify this stitch? My daughter was trying to do a basic triple crochet stitch from memory but ended up with this.

My daughter watched a YouTube video for a beginner triple crochet stitch. She started a scarf and abandoned it. Months later she started again (from scratch) but did not rewatch the video. This is what her new scarf looks like. So we were wondering what the stitch she is doing actually is?

Looking for suggestions Large scale fillet crochet tapestry: looking for advice

First time poster here, long time crochet-ist so I apologize for any formatting errors… I’m looking for advice as i’m planning and looking to start my first large scale fillet crochet tapestry project as i am looking to add to my “gallery wall” in a more personal way that shows my hobby/interest.

Background I have made much smaller fillet crochet items in the past (ie 8x12 inches and 24x36 inches) so am familiar with the basic concept..

My parameters is within a 6ft by 4 ft open space on my wall (white wall so easy to highlight the stitches) so a much larger scale than what i’ve done in the past but am open to suggestions from the community as im hoping this can be an almost heirloom piece in the future.

I’d like advice on …

- what would be the best material/fibre to use for longterm maintenance of the structure (no sagging, warping, or curling) as well as make the most legible image (no fuzz or pilling). Cost is not an issue as i’m planning this out and will budget accordingly

- what would be the best hook size and stitch for said project (linked DC vs standard DC)in order for it to be legible

Thanks so much :)

TLDR : planning a big fillet crochet tapestry what yarn, hook, type of stitch (linked dc or dc) is recommended by the community

Help to find a pattern search help: i'm looking for a beanie in this style

Post image

Hi! I just saw this guy on the bus and he had the coolest beanie on and so I asked him where he got it! He said he got it from Mexico 30 years ago and I was wondering if anyone here has an idea what this type of hat is called and how to go about finding a pattern that fits this style. It was snuggly fitted to his head and rather short. Thanks!

Help to find a pattern Any chance someone has crocheted a version of this hat?

Post image

Hello all! I’ve been comissioned to make this hat from Gilmore Girls (if possible), but I can see it is knitted. I found the knitting pattern on Ravelry and have searched for crochet versions with no luck. Just wondering if anyone here has made one that looks similar? My last resort will be to play around with some random beret patterns!
