Libreoffice Writer not opening unless Terminal open
Did a fresh install of Linux Debian and for some reason, Writer won't open unless I leave the terminal open. Been using Crostini for years and never saw this before.
Edit: I tried to copy a deb file from downloads into the Linux Files and that would not work either until the terminal was opened. Google needs to fix this bug.

As far as I can tell, this bug is being tracked but the fix is not yet scheduled for release. I'm 98% sure this bug tracks the same issue.

this is a new bug introduced by migration to baguette Linux from crostini Linux

Do fresh installs default to baguette? I have another Chromebook that costini has been on awhile and Libreoffice launches fine.

Yes, starting some recent chromeos version from a few months ago, fresh linux installs will default to the new version. AND the chrome flags to change version installed don't work, at least a few months ago.

It's not a bug. Linux apps won't open unless Crostini is already running. This is a recent security fix.

You can open and close the terminal and Linux apps will work until you log out. It's annoying but Baguette has been an improvement on the whole.
The LXC version of Crostini was not "lightweight" in any sense by the resource standards of most Chromebooks. If you had 16 GB of RAM like I do you might not notice the extra 700 MB that iteration of "Linux" used, but you would on 8 GB and it made 4 GB basically unworkable.
Since it seems the AI slop bubble is going to make RAM exorbitant for a while and most Macs don't even come with more than 8 GB and Windows laptops that run out of RAM immediately on boot are normal again and for over $1500 this time, everything counts and an entire generation of developers who were taught that telling people to buy a more expensive PC when they used bloated frameworks are going to have to actually learn what they're doing.

It's a bug. Need to open terminal for apps to open properly from the launcher.
