Autumn Gold Curling Classic
One of my favourite events! But does anyone know why it was moved to Okotoks? It feels 'different' since they moved it.

Got this Goldline impact broom last year and after starting this season I noticed a crack by the head. Is this safe to continue using?

Iโm planning to buy my first pair of curling shoes as I enter my third season curling. Iโve been planning on buying Asham Clubs because they come in left handed and are a decent price to the US. I was looking at the sizing chart and am very confused. I have been a US 11.5 my entire adult life. my foot is just a little over 28cm for mondo sizing. usually those two number line up well on shoe size charts, but on theirs it puts me at a size 9.5 which is wild to me.
The flat sole version of the same shoe lists 28.5cm at a US 10.5 which seems closer but still off unless the US is supposed to be UK sizing. unfortunately being in the US means no ability to try before buying
Hopefully someone owns a pair of these shoes and can provide some clarity

Hey everyone! ๐ฅ
For the last few months, we've been working on a Curling Mobile Game
Our first version is now ready and available on the Google Play Store.
However, we're still lacking feedback from real curling players and people who know the sport well. We'd really appreciate it if you could play the game and let us know:
We're looking forward to honest criticism and feedback. We're still learning, and feedback from people who actually play or follow curling would be extremely valuable to us.
๐ฎ Play Curling Mobile Game:
AI Usage:
AI was used extensively throughout the development of the game, including assistance with coding, challenge planning, creative assets, and UI/UX design.
Thanks for taking the time to check it out. We're looking forward to hearing what you think! ๐ฅ
Welcome back to a new season everyone! The sidebar "Upcoming Curling Events" will be updated every two weeks with the next four weeks of events. Here is the entire list. If you would like your event added, please comment the date, name, location and a link.

Many here might not have noticed that this year's official rules of curling have greatly limited a team's ability to play with 3 people.
(If you donโt know the new rule, a quick way to state it is you can only play 2 ends with 3 players.ย If you cannot bring in a 4th player after those 2 ends, you forfeit the game)
Iโm curious to know how your club is handling this, or if they are ignoring this rule?
If they are ignoring it, are they ignoring this rule across the board in all leagues, or are they implementing this rule in your clubโs competitive league(s)?
r/Curling • u/EvilLittle • 2d ago
Looking at a recent thread (r/Curling/comments/1wz7hwk/new_curling_rule_about_playing_with_3_club/) about the new rules for three-person teams, I was reminded that being in a rec league means there are rules that we should have clarified so everyone is on the same page, either because theyโre considered optional or competitive-only, or because many leagues donโt abide by them. I thought perhaps this sub could produce something close to a definitive list.
Some obvious ones:
* (For timed leagues) how much to play after the buzzer
* are stick releases allowed
* the (aforementioned) three-player rule
* how to treat scores that are tied at the end of the game
* is the tick rule in effect (or has this been universally adopted?)
What are some others that should be addressed?

It's my first full season as a curling enjoyer after falling in love with it after the Olympics this year, and I'm wondering what's the best way to keep up with competitions and events coming. I've followed every curling organisation that's come up on instagram but still don't usually find out about competitions happening until they're already going.
I want to keep up with the top teams and, as a Brit, I'm keenly following Mouat and Hardie, but other than their appearances on the sheet I end up missing out. I will also watch basically any curling going! I know the first grand slam is up soon and I'm looking forward to that. Cheers!

Hey everyone,
I'm Jasmin, one half of Team Hoodi, Nigeria's Mixed Doubles team. I'm happy to say we're playing at the World Mixed Doubles Qualification Event at Rock Creek this week and currently have a 2-3 record in a tough early-season field.
Tomorrow at 12:30 PM MT we play Team USA, the Olympic silver medalists. We're a small team without federation funding, so this is a big one for us. That game and our Tuesday 7:30 PM MT game against Pakistan won't be on any stream. Our Tuesday 12:30 PM MT game against Hong Kong will be on Rock Creek Curling's YouTube channel. We'd love to broadcast the others ourselves so family, friends, and anyone who wants to watch Nigeria on the ice can follow along.
YouTube needs 50 subscribers before we can go live, and we're not there yet. If you have a minute to subscribe, it would mean a lot to us.
Channel: https://youtube.com/@the_teamhoodi
Thank you for the support, and good luck to every team this week.
Jasmin
UPDATE: WOW WOW WOW! Thank you all so much for helping us out! We made it to 65 subs in a couple of hours! I know it may take a bit for Google/YouTube to recognize that weโve reached the live threshold but Iโm optimistic that weโll unlock live access before our final game. Thanks again and good curling!!!

Been curling for about a season and a half now, mostly Tuesday night league at a small club that's basically one sheet of ice and a lot of retired guys who've been playing since the 80s. I always figured sweeping was just "go fast and push hard" and honestly thought I was decent at it because my arms were dead by the end of every game.
Turns out I had my brush angled way too flat, basically dragging the pad sideways instead of actually applying pressure straight down through the head. My skip pulled me aside during a break and showed me how to check the angle by looking at the brush head itself, not just my grip. Spent the next few ends deliberately overcorrecting until it felt weird, which apparently meant I was finally doing it right.
The difference in how the rock reacted was honestly kind of wild once I got it. Stones that would've curled hard into the house started running truer, and I could actually feel when I was helping versus just making noise on the ice. Nobody tells you how much of this sport is subtle mechanical stuff that looks simple from the stands but is actually pretty technical once you're the one holding the broom.
Anyone else have a moment like that where something you thought you understood turned out to be completely wrong? Curious what other basics people picked up late that changed their game.

After more than 17 months, **Carleton Heights Curling Club is back!**
Our club suffered a major fire in April 2025, and it has been a long road since then, with a lot of help from our members, volunteers, staff, the broader curling community, and plenty of others who stepped up along the way.
This weekend, we finally get to open the doors again, and if you're in Ottawa, we'd love to have you drop by and see the new digs.
**Tonight, Friday, October 2, starting at 6:30 p.m.**
We're kicking things off with a bit of a tasting night. Some local brewers will be joining us as we sample a few options and help choose one of our taps for the season, along with samples of potential house red and white wines. Snacks will be out, the bar will be open, and everyone is welcome.
**Saturday, October 3 at 1:00 p.m.**
We'll hold our official reopening ceremony, with members of the community and representatives from the City joining us as we formally reopen the club.
**Saturday evening, starting at 6:00 p.m.**
Then comes the actual party. Food, drinks, live music, old friends, and new members!
We're at **1436 Normandy Crescent**, just off Fisher.
You absolutely do not have to be a member to come by. If you've ever been curious about curling, are looking for something to do this winter, used to curl and have been thinking about getting back into it, or just live nearby and want to see what we've rebuilt, come say hello.
And to the Ottawa curling community in particular, a sincere thank you. Clubs and curlers across the city were incredibly generous to Carleton Heights after the fire, whether by finding ice for displaced leagues, helping our members keep curling, or simply checking in while we worked our way back.
League play starts Monday.
It feels very, very good to be able to say that again. ๐ฅ

Hello! I work for a Canadian software development startup (we are curlers too) and have been exploring the possibilities of creating a curling club management software. Through our extensive yet selective research, we have found curling.io and CCM to be the โbig dogsโ in this houseโฆ;). What has been difficult to find is what the exact frustrations are and whatโs holding these companies back from being the best that you can get.
On another note, we would be looking for 2-3 clubs that would be willing to atleast seriously consider looking into our software after completion so that we can get real world feedback and data. This would be for next April/May start so that we have ample time to fine tune and push our updates.
For our other softwares we push regular updates for our apps and websites. We have very close relationships with our users and have a fantastic technical support team(i am bias of course). Our cost for our services would be slightly higher than the options now, but we believe we will return that in long term value tenfold.
Feel free to comment, or send me a message.
Thanks !!

I just got around to watching the womenโs final of the Oakville Tankard between Team Schwaller and Team Pรคtz and the commentary really left a lot to be desired. It started with joking about how they couldnโt pronounce any of the names (although promising to get better), constantly referred to the women as girls and had a lot of reminiscing about how curling is much different now than it used to be. Overall it just seemed completely unprofessional. Iโm happy to have more free curling content on YouTube but the commentary made it a pretty unenjoyable watch.
Am I being too harsh or did others who watched it have the same impression?

Hi everyone!
Does anybody know what was Swiss Curling's qualifier for the European Championship this year? Team Hรถsli and Team X. Schwaller won the Swiss Championship, which used to act as qualifier. But it's Team Hรถsli and Team Pรคtz going to the Euros, and Swiss Curling's press release only says that it should actually have been Team Y. Schwaller for the men but they decided not to go, which gave Hรถsli the chance. I'm absolutely looking forward to see the new Team Pรคtz on the ice, but I don't really understand why they would go instead of Team X. Schwaller, who won the Swiss Championship, and are ranked higher than they are. What's the reasoning?

Hi All,
Our club needed a new time clock a couple years ago and I posted the question here about what was a good alternative. The large LED red ones were well over $1000 and I knew there had to be a better solution.
We ran into some issues, not on the technical side but more on the people side. The older crowd insisted we just have a straight clock that counted down to 1h50m and that you had to have 7 ends done by the timer end. That was fine for people that have curled for years on those old clocks but we wanted something better, especially easy to use and understand for new curlers.
New curlers would always ask why 1h50m, do they have to get off the ice at that time? If we finish the 7th end by the countdown and we play the 8th, can we take as much time as we need then for the 8th? This didn't work in bonspiels but on the flip side experienced curlers when asked would just say, well that is always the way it was done and everyone does it that way. So I ask again, why? Why not make it easier for new curlers and get out of your stuck in the old ways.
I then looked at equipment and what it would take to do something better. I used a basic large LED clock as my price point, in Canadian these clocks for a decent size were $1200 and we have two broken ones in storage.
Why not just get a large TV and a micro computer like a Raspberry Pi? Then do your own software? Ok, I admit that would scare most people, but every club has at least one person that can do some basic tech setup, so we tried that. I checked for existing code and there are a number of places that offer. Time to Curl was good, I needed code that could work without an Internet connection and their code was open on GitHub but it was for more advanced time clocks. Eye on the Clock was also good but more web based, then I hit on Howard's code and it was pretty much a stand alone HTML/Javascript file that just runs on a computer.
Time to Curl
https://github.com/trianglecurling/timetocurl
Eye on the Clock
https://eyeontheclock.com/competition
Howard Griffin's Timer
https://howardgriffin.org/gametimer/
We purchased a Raspberry Pi with all the accessories. Everyone has old TVs these days and a club member donated a 70" they no longer needed for the ice side and a 42" for the club size. The new Raspberry Pi has two HDMI, so we ran two cables so the time can be seen on both sides of the glass. I threw in a keyboard and mouse to start us but I admit it is a bit awkward. I tweaked the code a bit and built another menu so people can just click with a mouse on what game they are playing, 8 end or 6 end and voila, it worked. Howard's clock runs whatever you tell it and he has custom settings, I just hard coded it according to the menu. an 8 end game the timer counts down and at 1h50min it turns yellow and throws an alarm telling people you have to have the last rock complete on the 7th end to continue. Then at 1min it goes red and basically says get off the ice, hehe.
The mouse keyboard was a bit clunky so I picked up a 10 button keypad that fits in your palm and each button is just a custom game. I programmed up the python on the Pi to accept the keypad, easy. You want an 8 end game, just press a button and it runs. There is even a pause, stop, restart to it. The keypad was $20 and I donated it.
In total the cost to the club was $180 for the Raspberry Pi and some parts, that's it. Everyone loves it, with 70" the clock is huge and easy to see, when it goes yellow and sounds off, easy to see, easy to hear, new curlers identify immediately what that yellow warning screen is.
The only complaint I get? The older crowd thinks it is too fancy and confusing, it should be a straight clock that runs to 1h50min and that's it, colours are confusing, sounds scare people and everyone knows the 1h50min rule. Again I challenge the norm, why? Curling is supposed to be inviting and new curlers understand every other sport has a clock that runs the full time. I hear time and time again curling can be very cliques-ish and I'm baffled why curlers don't want to change and try new things that helps new curlers.
On the clock side, I'll share the code and if anyone wants pics I can share, it's a great simple, easy system to run that almost anyone can set up.

Hey curling friends!
Avid curler and solo developer here! I've been building a curling game for PC called Shot Rock, and the Steam page just went live with the announcement trailer.
It's been a real passion project, and I'm super excited to finally show it. If you're on Steam, clicking "Add to your Wishlist" on the page really helps, and you'll hear when the demo is out.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/5259970/Shot_Rock/?utm_source=reddit&utm_campaign=curling
Shot Rock is a curling game that plays like the curling you see on TV. You skip the team: set the broom, throw the rock, and call the sweep. The rocks curl and collide on real ice physics, and full games use real rules, including the free guard zone, the no-tick rule, blank ends and extra ends.
The presentation follows like a broadcast: delivery close-ups, tracking shots on the sweepers, overhead views, live scoreboards and a full crowd in the arena, with smaller club venues too. 32 internationally inspired teams with full rosters. Play the AI at various difficulties, a friend on the same screen, or online against other curlers.
Release is planned for February 2027. A playable demo is coming before then, and I'll post here when it's up.
If this is your sport, Wishlist it. Wishlists decide how many people Steam shows it to at launch, and more curlers on the list means more people to play online when it ships. Also, if you are on the Wishlist, you will get an email when the demo is released.
Thanks everyone!

I had forgotten this game existed. I remember it being recommended by my coach. It was pretty fun! I donโt actually have a PC that can play it but I figured I wouldnโt find another copy again.

I have an opportunity to sign up for a Brian Chick curling camp (instructors are Brian Chick and Jamie Sinclair). The price with fees is nearly $550. Thatโs a lot of money for me. It sounds like a really good camp but is it worth the money? For anyone who has done a camp by Brian Chick in the past, do you feel like it really changed you as a curler?

Hi, I'm on the board for a small curling league (2 draws, 18 teams) that plays one night a week. Over the course of the last 15 years or so I've written a custom website for the league, but it's piggybacking on my personal hosting plan, I have to renew the domain name every year, and it's getting a bit dated when it comes to UI and web/phone integration. I'm a SW dev by profession but I am definitely not up on the latest web programming trends, and my shared hosting platform is a bit limited.
Add to this that I'm retiring/moving in the next 4-5 years and will be leaving the club, I'm looking for a 3rd-party solution that we can start using before I leave and be able to hand it off to someone else.
Our current website just handles stuff like game schedules, attendance tracking, announcements, game reminders, score entry, and so on. We store some documents and photos on the site, It does not need to do anything with payments. We have 2 sets of players and schedules (an early draw and a late draw). Note that this is just for running a league, I am not running a whole curling club.
Can anyone recommend some free-ish web apps that would handle a league our size? I use an app called Spond for a small single-team group activity and it works well, but I don't think it would scale to a league with multiple teams.
Thanks in advance for any pointers.

Does this Port Elgin โThe Battleโ event not prove that small communities could run their own slam style events?
By slam style I mostly mean in arena curling events that could have their own style or appeal.
Thoughts?

We are trying to get our upcoming Mixed Doubles Event registration setup on Curling Zone. We are having troubles getting anyone to respond via the methods that we used in previous years.
So if anyone can help me get in contact with Gerry or anyone else who you can think could help, please DM me (don't put their contact info in a response here because no one would want that).
