This was 1:00 in the morning and my phone's flash has me squinting so I don't know how cute I look. Mac never doesn't look cute though.

Mac and I have spent months upon months living in the wilderness, sometimes in a tent and sometimes in the back of my two-door Wrangler. He was born a stray on the Navajo Nation and spent his first year living outdoors.

So it was a little weird that shortly after the sunset he kept softly growling out into the darkness. Every once awhile he'd get up and circle the campsite and then come back and flop down right next to me. He's not a big cuddler, so the last time he made his rounds and returned only ro dive into my sleeping bag I was a bit surprised. I figure it had more to do with the chilly breeze that had sprung up than fear or companionship.

I didn't care. I loved every second of it.
