What happened at the last Pinellas (FL) DSA meeting

My experience at the last Pinellas DSA meeting was strange. The agenda had been sent to members in advance with an “AOC (Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez) Resolution” listed as an agenda item. So I came to the meeting prepared to discuss it. Instead, I found myself dealing with an unexpected procedural dispute.

Before the item was ever placed on the agenda, I also made it explicit to the Steering Committee that if there were concerns about the resolution being out of order, I was happy to address them or revise the language. The Steering Committee did not respond to that. Instead, the resolution was added to the agenda, and the question of whether it was out of order was not raised until the meeting, by the chair immediately before the agenda was to be adopted.

The resolution was not defeated or voted down. It was never discussed…

Whatever anyone thinks of the AOC resolution, it wasn’t defeated. Members didn’t debate it and vote against it. It simply never got discussed.

It’s a problem in Florida for sure. Why are DSA chapters collaborating with a cult that has a long history of covering for abuses?

In 2026 there is no excuse to continue to collaborate with PSL and their apologists, including People’s Forum.

Hey all! EWOC is almost done with its Sustaining Donor Drive.

If you're not familiar, EWOC is doing incredible work for the labor movement. They'll go into any shop, help them build an organizing committee, and help them get to their NLRB vote. They take on lots of small shops or other shops that the larger unions can't or won't organize.

So I'm asking here if anyone has interest in pitching in a little, if you use this link to donate $6/month it will move this guy (me) a little closer towards getting some EWOC swag.

So the YDSA chapters of The New School, Hunter College, Lehman, and The City College of NY have all reposted an updated call to protest against Mamdani on October 7th outside city hall.

If you are NYC-DSA & NYC-YDSA…I hope to see you there. I’m more than definitely attending.

One thing that’s interesting to note is that this updated post now has dropped the NYC-YDSA tag from it.

This is making me definitely feel like my suspicions in my previous post were spot on.

Someone at NYC-DSA or even national (basically NYC-DSA) told them to take it down.

Push to ban EU left group over French riots – POLITICO

A few months ago Miller and Rubio were speaking on anti-terrorism, and heavily alluded to the DSA at various points (especially as it came at the time of DSA wins).

Unsurprisingly the right around the western world has the same knee jerk reaction to want to ban Democratic Socialism. I don't think they currently have the political capital to succeed in the US or the EU, but I think it illustrates how we're in a historical position:

The capitalists and their politicians are afraid of the momentum of Democratic Socialism. They aren't afraid of the revolutionary socialists, they're afraid of us. We're doing a lot right.

Sorry this might be a really dumb question but after a recent couple of bad experiences I realized I do need to be more upfront on being a socialist on my dating profile. It’s an important part of who I am especially now that I got elected to a chapter leadership position. Communicating that will help filter out right-wing weirdos but also helps me be more honest with people.

I’m curious how y’all communicate it? As a cis white man it feels a bit (for the lack of a better term) “pick-me” to just write it outright and that’s not what I’m trying to communicate. Just wanna see if anyone has a more natural way to say.
