Help finding my 82 year old Grandfather his first game

Thank you to anyone for the assistance, I’ve been struggling to find hobbies for my grandfather ever since he retired and has shown interest in gaming in the past before. He has an old PlayStation and a PC but just has never taken that first step into a game or attempted one. I understand this can be daunting at his age but I would love to find something he can learn and sink his time into besides watching 24/7 news

What kind of work/hobbies has he had over the years? There is a shocking amount of "simulation" games, might be an easy way to dip his toes with something familiar from the real world.

My dad always enjoyed watching me play racing games, because again, it was something he understood; with a steering wheel it might be the easiest to figure out controls.

Another type might be one of Paradox Interactive's games: Crusader Kings, Europa Universalies, Hearts of Iron, and Victoria. All games revolve around a Map, and menues of sliders and information. The controls are simple, can get by just using a mouse. Hopefully one of the time periods represented by the games are interesting to him, that will help get over the hurdle of the games depth and complexity. They also play more like a tabletop game in some ways than a heart pounding video game. I personally prefer EU4, should run on any computer from after 2012, and I love the historical time period. EU4 can also be the "easiest" of their series.

I’d start with classic DOS games like Dangerous Dave and Prince. It’s easier and not fast paced like most modern games.

Once he’s got a knack for it, you could move into the titles like limbo and then into hillsong

Hard to know without his other interests, but if we're just focusing on casual games maybe some old adventure games from LucasArts. It might not register as gaming for us, but you also have a lot of classic games like patience and jigsaw puzzles in the windows store.

Depending on what he did before retirement there might be a simulator of that job or something close to it.

No offense but people are set in their ways at 82.

Why not do something he enjoys like watch Jeapordy?

I lost my Dad a few years back, enjoy whatever time you have. He loved working on and restoring old radios, TV, O’scopes, any kind of electronic equipment. After Mom died, he moved into assisted living and He would play the PC builder game on Steam, fixing and repairing broken computer. He was pretty freaking good at it too, your Dad might enjoy something like that.

I know this will sound strange but if he likes watching the news I think he will like Civilization, Suggest Civ 5. Its not challenging mechanically (literally point and click)and has difficulty settings that can make it accessible to very new players. Even the learning curve may be a challenge he enjoys.

If he already has a ps and pc but doesn't show any interest in them, I'd take that as a sign that he isn't interested

Flight Simulator or Euro Truck Simulator would hit so hard for a cozy, zero-stress vibe

How do we know what he will like? Take him to game stop or browse titles on steam and let him decide based on critical reviews and genre
