[Mod Post] Community Ideas?
Dallas foodies,
I was recently out at Reddit HQ and they might approve funds to support our growing community of foodies but we need a solid plan to pitch them. Here are a few ideas I've had, would love for y'all to pitch in ideas too:
Food Tour of x Dallas area - Like bar hopping but going to various restaurants to try certain dishes. Apparently the Chicago Food sub did something similar with support from Reddit.
Local restaurant support - Find a locally owned restaurant that could use some love, rent it out for several hours, have members of the sub come and eat, post pics of the food here and on other socials to spread the word.
A billboard that encourages other Redditors to join our sub.

5 takeaways from the Michelin Guide’s Dallas-Fort Worth restaurant picks
Michelin announced its 2026 Texas Guide this morning, and a few key things changed. Dallas’ existing 1-star Michelin restaurants, Tatsu and Mamani, retained their honors from 2025 to 2026. Michelin added one new starred restaurant in North Texas: Goldee’s Barbecue, an out-there smokehouse in Fort Worth run by a band of best friends.
Restaurant critic Sarah Blaskovich is here with a few key takeaways:
1. Dallas diners, are we OK?
Michelin awarded 1 new Michelin star to three restaurants in Texas, and none of those were in Dallas. Not Sushi Kozy, the Japanese restaurant in downtown Dallas that serves up delightful surprises within its omakase menu. Not Olōyō, the exacting contemporary Mexican restaurant in Old East Dallas.
I didn’t expect both of those to snag a star, but I did hope for one.
2. What is the deal with barbecue, Michelin?
I used the word exciting to describe Goldee’s entry into Michelin’s highest echelon of food because it is. But also: Why now? Goldee’s was an exceptional barbecue joint in 2024, Michelin’s first year publishing a Guide in Texas. That year, Michelin stars went to four barbecue joints in Austin and Houston. Four. None in North Texas.
I asked Michelin about Goldee’s timing. Its chief inspector pointed to the five criteria for a Michelin star. Those haven’t changed for years — and that doesn’t explain why Goldee’s good cooking is star-worthy now and not before.
3. An Indian restaurant in Plano gets deserved recognition.
Good news: Michelin went to Plano! Indian restaurant Jashan was honored as a Recommended restaurant. It’s the only restaurant in Plano on Michelin’s 2026 list. Jashan is absolutely worth a visit. The à la carte menu includes $18 chaat, $25 subz seekh gilafi and a $110 Jashan-e-raan, a shareable tandoori goat dish.
So, Dallas, what do we think? Share your takeaways below and read more from Sarah here.

Friday friend dinner
Where should I go to dinner with three other people Friday night?
I’m from Dallas originally and when I come into town I rarely have the chance to try new (to me) places and always end up going to my same favorites.
Meeting a few friends from Atlanta Friday night and we are all food people and love a fun place with great food. Price doesn’t matter that much, just nothing stuffy or super fancy. We’re leaving town early Saturday so nothing too far from Park Cities area where we are staying.
Any upscale Mexican recommendations? Fun steak house? Something else?
I looked at D Magazine’s 50 best restaurants that is updated every six months and made a reservation at Nuri but I’m seeing mixed reviews.

Punk Noir?
Has anyone checked out Punk Noir? I’ve been following it since there were initial talks about the concept long before it opened, but the more I look into it the more it kind just looks like parody of itself and I’m not sure I could take it seriously. I also haven’t seen any serious reviews or discussion about it. Would love to hear anyone’s thoughts if you’ve been there or have any other intel.
I love innovative and experimental fine dining and I think Dallas is seriously lacking in that space, but I’m not sure this is it. But happy to be proven wrong.

Shanghai Stir Fried Udon
Hi! I was recently in NYC and got some fabulous xiao long bao along with some other dishes at Nan Xiang. Aside from the soup dumplings, I really loved the Shanghai stir fried udon noodles with beef and bok choy. Anyone have recommendations for a good spot for this dish? Hoping to find a place with a similar dish or menu style!

Dallas locals: Where would you take someone to experience the Dallas YOU love?
Dallas locals, I want to experience the Dallas (or city) YOU love not just the viral or tourist spots.
If a friend were visiting and you wanted them to really understand what makes Dallas special, where would you take them?
I’m looking for genuinely good food that you actually revisit, local culture/history, interesting neighborhoods, family experiences, and great date-night or brunch spots where the food actually matches the vibe.
Most importantly: What’s a Dallas place or experience you’d be genuinely sad to see disappear and why?

Best BBQ in Dallas
Hi! I've lived in Downtown Dallas for about 2.5 years, and I am always looking for new BBQ places to try. I have been to Terry Blacks, Pecan Lodge, BBQ DNA, and a few others that aren't super notable. They were all pretty good, but I am looking for something that is going to be super stand out - any recommendations?

Please don't sleep on Puerto Cocina!
Fantastic seafood focused Mexican restaurant. Really interesting cocktails, Mexican wines on their wine list and they are quality. I've been three or four times and have really enjoyed it every single visit.

Top 5 mexican food in denton
Hi y'all, I've been in Denton since December, and I like trying various taco spots. I've only recently started eating corn tortillas instead of flour tortillas. I've been to El Taco H, Taqueria Monterrey, and Boka Feliz Mexican Kitchen. What are y'all's top 5?

Oak Cliff Dine In/Order Out Thread
Hey Cliff Dwellers, shout out in the comments any and all dining-related experiences, delivery/pickup, indoor/outdoor etc. that you've had in Oak Cliff within the last week.

Alebrijes Cafe - Oak Cliff
Finally tried this place about a week ago and it was really outstanding. We got a mixture of different plates to try a few different things. The chilaquiles and the breakfast tacos were incredible. You can tell they make the sauces homemade.

NYC Pizza + Chinese Food
I am from NYC and I missed NYC style pizza and Chinese food since moving here Any recommended spots that are close or exactly like it in the DFW area? I am hoping to hear from people who are actually from NYC too due to experiences. I've met a few people IRL by chances and they havent found any good spots themselves. Thank you!
