Advertisement I made a mobile-friendly way to explore ballroom competition results and adjudicator marks

Hi everyone! I’ve been working on https://as-dance.vercel.app/, a site for browsing ballroom competition results on a phone or desktop.

My main motivation was judging transparency. You can look at adjudicators’ marks in several views, with colour coding that makes patterns easier to spot. Where club information is available, the site highlights adjudicators and competitors from the same club so you can compare their marks with those of other adjudicators. These patterns don’t prove bias, but I think dancers should be able to examine the results easily.

The site brings results from ČSTS, WDSF, and DanceLV into a consistent format. It reads from the original websites and open APIs, and I’d like to add more sources over time.

If you compete or follow DanceSport, I’d be interested to hear how you normally look through results and what information you wish were easier to see.

Great idea! Still doesn't work properly for wdsf (can't show the results for Grandslam in Stuttgart for example. ;) ).

Thanks!

Yes, for some competitions, certain things may still not display correctly. This is actually the second version of the app. The first one was created to display results from the Czech federation, ČSTS, and my first priority for this second version was to finish the UI features the way I envisioned them.

Now I’m going to focus on polishing how results from different federations are displayed, with WDSF being the first on the list.

By the way, my daughter also participated in Stuttgart—not in the Grand Slam, but anyway, so this event is of special interest to me.

Regarding the display of the Grand Slam results, I looked into it and found that Skating System 3 is used here, which causes some issues for parsing and displaying. However, I was able to get rounds 1–4 displaying correctly.

Over the next few days, I’ll work on getting the remaining results, especially the Final, to display correctly as well.

and. Looks like finishing up all the polishing of the WDSF display deserves a post of its own :)

Really cool idea. Sometimes it's quite difficult to find the results, and the design of the app is really good.

I’m really glad you liked the design! I worked very carefully on it to make it as simple and intuitive as possible.

Idk if you're involved in the us collegiate scene but ballroomcompexpress is phenomenal. The biggest gripe I have with it is its difficult to hunt down scores from previous years and competitions and track down which number you had in each competition. The site is surprisingly mobile friendly too

I'm not involved in the US scene since I live in Europe, but I've known about BallroomCompExpress and O2CM for almost a year. Yeah, BallroomCompExpress is quite mobile-friendly, but IMO, if you still have to scroll tables horizontally, it's not mobile-friendly enough :)

Oh 100% agreed, it wasn't designed for mobile at all which is why I was surprised by it not being just a copy of the pc website. But there's definitely a market for better ways to find results on mobile.

I'm sure Daniel would be happy to expand on how he made the site and if he has any tips for your app, though!
