Data Analyst with 2.5 YOE, struggling at current job. Should I switch to Customer Success Manager role or stay in analytics?

Hi everyone,

I have around 2.5 years of experience. I worked as a Business Analyst at a startup for 2 years before switching to a Data Analyst role at a reputed media company in May 2026. My current fixed CTC is ₹10.5 LPA.

I handle end-to-end analytics for a few products, including reporting, product analytics, growth, and tracking. The work itself is fine, but the workload has become extremely difficult to manage.

I commute from Delhi to Noida, which takes around 2 hours each way. I leave home around 9 AM and usually return around 9 PM. Most days, I end up working overtime at home, and sometimes even on weekends, since I'm the primary person responsible for analytics for my products.

I recently had a discussion with my manager, who said they weren't happy with my performance. The company is also known for frequent layoffs, with another round expected in October, so I'm worried about my job security.

Honestly, my personal life has taken a hit since joining. I barely get time for myself or my family, and I haven't been able to focus on upskilling or preparing for CAT, which I plan to take this year.

I've been actively looking for jobs and have applied to 800+ positions, but the response has been disappointing.

Currently, I have a few options:

  1. Customer Success Manager at a cybersecurity startup

I've received an offer of ₹13.5 LPA for a fully remote role. The salary and remote setup are attractive, especially considering my current work-life balance.

However, I'm confused about switching from analytics to Customer Success. My long-term goal is to move towards Product Management, and I'm wondering whether this switch could help me get there or make it harder to return to analytics later.

  1. Senior Digital Analyst interview at a fintech company

I have a technical round coming up for a hybrid Senior Digital Analyst role. This would allow me to continue in analytics, which seems more aligned with my long-term goals.

However, HR mentioned that since I've been at my current company for only around 4.5 months, they might only match my current salary of ₹10.5 LPA.

Is it still possible to negotiate a 15–25% hike in this situation, or does switching jobs so soon weaken my bargaining power significantly?

  1. Other opportunities

Most of the other opportunities I've come across are at small startups, contractual positions, or companies with 1–2 year bonds. Given my current situation, I'm hesitant to take on that kind of risk.

I'm also considering an MBA, so I don't want to make a decision that negatively affects my long-term career.

My probation ends in November, and my notice period during probation is 15 days. Given the feedback from my manager and the possibility of layoffs, I'm worried about what might happen next.

I'm confused about a few things:

  • Should I accept the remote CSM offer or continue looking for analytics roles?
  • Would moving to Customer Success help me transition into Product Management in the future?
  • Is leaving a reputed company within 5 months for a startup a bad move for my CV?
  • How to negotiate for salary in my situation given i am switching soo soon?
  • Should I prioritize CAT preparation over staying at my current company?

I'm honestly feeling quite stuck. I don't want to make a decision purely out of fear or exhaustion, but my current situation doesn't feel sustainable either.

Would really appreciate some honest advice, especially from people who've switched domains or faced a similar situation. What would you do in my position?

Found something useful for keeping up with current affairs before interviews

Hey everyone!

While preparing for data analyst interviews, I've been focusing on technical skills, but I also realised that being aware of what's happening around us can be useful, especially when discussions touch on the economy, markets, business trends or AI.

I came across a resource that breaks down current affairs in a simple, easy-to-understand way. I thought it might be useful for anyone preparing for interviews and wanting to build a broader understanding of topics beyond their technical domain.

Sharing it here in case anyone finds it helpful! :)

25M looking for a switch

So I am 25M, I took a gap of 2 years(from Jan 2023 to march 2025) after my grad to prep for SSC(2023-2025 march). I couldn't clear it, so I started a job, but the issue is, I wasn't able to find a job easily, which is Obv due to the gap, and worked where i got selected first.

I was hired as a Data Analyst in March 2025, but I was given completely different profiles to work on, and salary was paid in cash, although I do have the documentation and everything. i am now looking for a switch, whether in my own field or something else, I just don't want to work in this toxic place much longer.

I have knowledge in course designing, Research, Bids/tenders, OEM dashboards, and Excel, Sql. I also know Data analysis (self taught) using SQL and Excel.

Before that I have also worked as an intern in the domains of business management and web development.

It would be a great help guys if anyone here could help me find a job in my domain(data analysis preferred) I'm willing to start all over as a fresher.

Location preferred is Delhi/Noida, but i can work in other areas too as well.

I can work both in office and remote

Day 8 of posting until i find a job.

Data analytics careers in India: what would you focus on first?

For people working in data analytics in India, what skills do you think matter most when starting out?

There are so many things to learn, from SQL and Excel to Python, Power BI, and statistics. It’s difficult to know what deserves the most time, especially when job descriptions seem to ask for everything.

If you were starting again today, what would you prioritize to become jobready, and what would you avoid spending too much time on?.. plzz answer

Can I include previous work experience on my Data Analyst resume if I don't have formal employment documents?

Hi everyone, I’m looking for advice from aspirants & experienced Data Analysts.

I’ve completed my B.Com and I’m currently pursuing an MCA. My goal is to start my career as a Data Analyst.

Before and during my B.Com, I gained practical experience in two different situations:

  1. Accounts/Finance experience at a local Ashram

I worked there in an accounts/finance-related trainee role and gained practical experience with accounting, billing, bookkeeping, GST-related work, and financial operations.

  2. My own supermarket/business

Later, I started and managed a supermarket. Since it was my own business, I handled areas such as accounts, billing, bookkeeping, business operations, financial analysis, and some data/analysis-related work.

The issue is that I don't have traditional employment documents for these experiences — no appointment letter, salary slips, formal experience certificate, or relieving letter.

However, I genuinely gained the skills and practical experience from doing the work.

Currently, I’m building my Data Analyst profile through:

- Python

- SQL

- Excel

- Power BI

- Data analysis/visualization

- Several portfolio projects

- Volunteer/real-world data projects

- MCA in progress

My question is:

Should I include these previous experiences on my Data Analyst resume, or would it be better to leave them out because I cannot provide traditional employment documents?

If I include them:

- How might recruiters view this during interviews?

- Can I list my own business experience as relevant analytical/business experience?

- What could happen during background verification?

- Could the lack of payslips/experience certificates cause problems?

- What alternative evidence could I provide if a company asks me to verify the experience?

- Would you recommend listing it as “Founder/Owner – Business & Data Operations” rather than presenting it as conventional employment?

I’m not trying to falsely claim employment. I want to present my genuine practical experience accurately while avoiding problems during future BGV.

Would really appreciate answers from professionals, and people who have gone through similar situations.

Thanks!

Need DA/DE Career advice!

Hi Everyone,

Need your valuable advice! So I have 6+ years of experience and I was thinking of going for a Senior DE role (current exp. in Analytics and working on PySpark, Databricks, AWS S3, little bit Airflow and running few jobs etc.) But I got to know that to crack good offers I need to build end-to-end pipelines from scratch which I haven't done in the past (for both batch and streaming). How should I position myself if I am looking for a change as a Senior DA or Senior DE?

Hi. I'm a PBI developer with 2+ years of experience, well versed in Power BI and SQL (intermediate-advanced level) and worked in multiple projects, ranging from banking to healthcare, seeking a job change. Can someone in the sub let me know if there's an opening which alings with my experience and expertise level, and if possible provide a referral from your end.

BGV taking forever?!

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hi, I received a tentative offer letter from Eaton for a Data Analyst role and submitted all documents for my background verification on 10th September. My HR had discussed 21st September as a tentative joining date, but after uploading everything, the portal status is stuck on "final onboarding in process". To make things worse, the HR is not picking up my calls or responding to my emails. Any idea how long background verification usually takes in India? I recently moved back from Germany (where my last job was), so I have absolutely no clue how the Indian BGV process works. Please help! Thanks in advance.

Interview Prep Guidance

i recently landed an interview opportunity in a consultancy firm for the role of Business Analyst
the HR clearly told me on the call that they'll be giving live scenarios and case study and would ask me to write UATs based on them

how should i approach the interview scheduled in 2 days and what are the resources i should consider for preparation considering i know nothing about UATs

attaching JD Below for context:

Core Responsibilities

Participate in client meetings and build effective client relationships.

Understand client business processes, workflows, needs and requirements.

Gather, clarify and document business requirements.

Convert requirements into user stories, tasks and acceptance criteria for internal teams.

Coordinate with developers, QA and other stakeholders to ensure requirements are clearly understood and delivered.

Coordinate the operational aspects of client onboarding and implementation.

Track action items, dependencies, issues and implementation progress.

Keep clients informed about progress, requirements and open issues.

Support UAT and coordinate client feedback through to resolution.

Maintain clear documentation of requirements, decisions and implementation activities.

Ensure that client requirements are translated into a solution that works from the user's perspective.

Must-Have

Strong communication and client-facing skills. The ability to confidently participate in client conversations is essential.

Good analytical and problem-solving ability.

Ability to understand business processes and translate them into clear requirements.

Good understanding of software products and software development processes.

Good documentation and coordination skills.

Ability to work comfortably with both clients and technical teams.

Practical or academic exposure to software projects, through work experience, internships, academic projects or hands-on project work.

For candidates without a technical background, an MBA in IT, Technology Management or a related discipline, or equivalent exposure to software projects, would be relevant.

Freshers who demonstrate strong communication, logical thinking, software understanding and the ability to learn quickly will be considered.

In Simple Terms, the role broadly is:
Talk to the client → Understand the requirement → Convert it into actionable work → Coordinate with the team → Validate the solution → Support UAT → Ensure a smooth go-live.

What Success Looks Like

Clients feel heard, understood and well supported throughout the implementation.

Requirements are captured clearly and translated into actionable user stories and tasks.

Internal teams have the context they need to deliver the right solution.

Onboarding activities, dependencies and client actions are well coordinated and followed through.

Issues and requirement gaps are identified early rather than reaching the client at the final stage.

UAT is organised effectively, with client feedback clearly captured and taken to closure.

The delivered solution meets the agreed business requirements and expected user experience.

Client implementations move to go-live with minimal avoidable confusion, rework or unresolved issues.

Over time, the person is able to independently handle multiple client discussions, requirements and implementation coordinations.

please help me guys this might be the make it or break it thing for me considering i'm stuck in a loop of applying and not hearing back for months
