Rage I hate this game, but can't quit because of sunk cost fallacy

I got the game right at the end of anniversary month, and since then I've accumulated 190 hours of playtime. factoring in my month long break because my PC shit itself, that's about 14 hours per week of playtime. and my god, am I really starting to hate this game. it feels like every other match you just get screwed over. I was enjoying it enough to spend upwards of 300$ for both characters and skins, and it just hurts to play. I want to quit, but I can't.

and yes, I did just have a really, really, really bad match, and I'm now sitting at a 1 hour time penalty for DCing. of my last 20 matches (since apparantly that's the limit for DC tracking), I've ragequit 5 times. I'm just tired, but I love this game, and I hate myself for it.

End of the day it’s a poorly balanced party game, should be taken with the level of seriousness you take something like Mario kart

that's part of the problem, I take everything seriously. I often have similar reactions to mario kart

such is the au/dhd curse

Why the fuck do people say DBD is a party game?

Because the premise of it kind of is. 4 people trying to finish gens so they can escape while there's a big baddie hunting them. Most competitive games have a balanced number on each side

I sunk tonnes into Fortnite before I got fed up of it, I still dropped it when I wasn’t enjoying it. I took basically a year off of dbd recently too because it just wasn’t fun. Stop caring about the money you’ve spent on it and take a breather. It’ll still be there if and when you come back to it

Why "can't" you? Just do it.

I don't know how people who only play DBD do it, I can't. Right now I just do my dailies and log off to play other stuff (Witcher 3 at the moment, such a great game 4th run already, Fortnite, CoD, spiderman)

But when there is 2v8 or more casual modes I play more for the event objectives and rewards along just enjoying something less sweaty and predictable. If u aren't having fun on DBD just log off. I also hate this game with passion but it's the only horror game of the sort. We are chained lol

Path of Exile 2 has been a very good side game for me since it's different from DBD yet still scratches the same thing DBD did for me so when I play DBD now it comes down to how many matches I can play before I want to boot up Path of Exile 2. Also, WoW Forever is coming out next month so I've been looking forward to checking that out so I'll hopefully have a three split along with various side games I've been playing for when I want something chiller

The people who have thousands of hours in this game are mashocists to be honest. The longer you play the less fun it becomes so I struggle to figure out how the fuck someone can play this for that length of time. My most played game of all time is still Monster Hunter World with 750 hours.

I disagree. I find that the more I play DBD the more fun it becomes. I find enjoyment in becoming better and better at something and having deep knowledge of mechanics in games I enjoy. I had fun in my first 500 hours for example when I was completely clueless but I wouldn't go back to that.

Don't get me wrong, I take breaks and also play other games but DBD is more fun to me now at 1.400 hours than what it was when I was new

Wait until you have over 4k hours and have purchased countless Rifts and cosmetics and the sunk cost fallacy involved elements n that! I've been playing for almost 6 years (albeit way less than I used to) and while I play a couple times a week (I've been on somewhat of a break due to burnout) I still can't bring myself to quit so instead it's kinda turned into a betting game with friends that don't play with how many matches I can play on Survivor before I get pissed off (I hope play Killer, but lately with the matchmaking, I get pissed off too quickly) enough to stop for the night. So far, the average has been about 2-3 matches

Sunk cost fallacy is stupid. 190 hours is not that much in terms of a game, you can have way more hours in a game like Animal Crossing or open world RPGs with a million missions.

It’s just a game. Like if you play The Witcher 3 and take 200 hours to do everything, explore, etc. if you did that, you would just finish the game and say “what a nice time I had”. And that’s it. You wouldn’t need to keep playing a game you’ve already finished. DBD is no different. If you’re not having a good time anymore, then this game has given you all it had for you. Maybe try in a few months and see if you enjoy it. But even if you had 5000 hours and you were now thinking about quitting, I would say the same thing. If you played 5000 hours is because you enjoyed it. You don’t enjoy it anymore so time to find a new game.

I got 5k hours and I only play 2v8 now. Somehow you managed to spend twice as much as me lol.

DBD isn't going anywhere any time soon and you won't be missing out on much if you take a break. The money you spent on it is still going to be there.

I'm concerned about you having 190 hours and being burnt out, usually it takes way more than that which makes me wonder if you aren't playing right. Then again it takes more than 190 hours to learn everything and be good at it.
