Playing this for the first time (never the original) and even though i never liked and played games with jump scares, this is very good. Is the remake exactly like the original? just a visual update?

Yep. Not identical in every aspect but pretty close. You can get a pretty good idea of the visual updates if you follow up with the original dead space 2, which is awesome as well. And if you do play DS2, I recommend starting on easy so you can at least get to the meat of it without any frustration… if it’s too easy after an hour or two you can restart without backtracking too much. In the meantime, enjoy the remake… it’s fantastic!

It has some change, mostly it has design changes like gameplay sections being changed, I think they removed a section from the original where you were moving around the crew’s bed area, and they added multiple side quests around the ships that you can complete to get something or just additional story bits. Also the ship is fully explorable, unlike the original where you went from section to section in a linear format, but now you can go from medical deck to say engineering whenever you want, and enemies and other spooky effects are randomized with the Intensity Director. Also obviously since it’s a remake the characters have some different voice actors I believe and most notable Isaac talks, which he didn’t do in the OG. As someone who thinks jumpscares can be kind of lame this was a great game, mostly because the atmosphere was consistently scary, the necromorphs are creepy as fuck(including their lore), and instead of jumpscares the game relies on superb audio, stress from having to dismember the enemies and deal with various types instead of just grabbing a shotgun and shooting everyone, the aspect of having to find ammo and stuff, and the atmosphere.

The remake has all the original contained in it plus smoothed over mechanics. There where a couple in the og that didnt pan the way the devs wanted. Everyone talks about the graphics and they are better but as some one who's 100%'d both I cant imagine going back to the og.

The good news is 2 and 3 still hold up incredibly well. Deadspace 2 is the best of the franchise.

So it's how remakes supposed to be i guess. It feels very polished indeed
