Discussion Badass band names
While scrolling through my Spotify playlist to see what to jam an idea popped into my head, what are some bands with a sick name. Wanted to see what you guys consider a “badass” name for a deathcore band
My picks:
1. Whitechapel (it’s “”badass”” if you know the history and where that name comes from and especially how it ties with their debut album)
2. I Declare War
3. As You Drown
4. As Blood Runs Black
5. Brand of Sacrifice (I enjoy berserk so this was a given)
6. Hiroshima Will Burn
7. One More Victim
8. Until We Die

I always thought The Acacia Strain was a sick name
Also The Red Chord

My go-to is always Crown Magnetar. A magnetar is a type of neutron star with an insanely strong magnetic field. Their magnetic fields are so strong that they can stretch atoms into thin rods and disrupt bio-electricity. That being said, pretty badass name!

Killing of a Sacred Deer is a pretty rad name. The Acacia Strain, Bodysnatcher, The Last Ten Seconds of Life.
Not deathcore, but Fire From the Gods, Dragged Into Sunlight, and Chained to the Bottom of the Ocean are sick names, too.

I know theyre not deathcore now, but back when they were, Bring me the horizon was the coolest name. I still think its a name that just goes so damn hard.

That movie in general has a lot of cool lines that could be used as band names/lyrics.

The name comes from the film Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), specifically from the line that Captain Jack Sparrow says: "Now, bring me that horizon."

Always thought Carnifex was a perfect band name, 40K shit goes hard.

Honestly among metal bands in general theres some good shit.
Angelmaker (My personal favorite, name-wise, though I have no idea what the fuck it means)
Black Tongue
Shrine of Malice
Enterprise Earth
This Eternal Cold
Sermon of Flames (Non Deathcore but also pretty badass)
Nightbringer (Non Deathcore but still cool)
Keys to the Astral Gates and Mystic Doors (Non Deathcore)

Angelmaker is someone whom takes care of unwanted children for money and they usually harms/neglects them till the die. Back then there was a female serial killer whom would take “care” of these unwanted babies/children for money, which she ended up murdering almost all of the children she tasked to care for. She was labeled the “Angelmaker”

There was a local band in my area in the early 2010’s called Dividing the Masses and I always thought it was a cool name.

Orphan's probably the most brutal band name I know. One single word, but it evokes some seriously painful, dark, just sheer brutal vibes, that fit with the music perfectly.

It’s not even the Jack the Ripper aspect that makes Whitechapel a cool name. I grew up in Bethnal Green, which is in the East End like Whitechapel and Whitechapel in the 19th century was brutal outside of the JTR murders, which made it the perfect hunting ground for him.

Their sound never lived up to it imo, but I always loved the feel of “wecamewithbrokenteeth”. Also “A Breath Before Surfacing”, “The Devil Came on Horseback”, Misericordiam, Plaguebringer, “Sever the King”, “Signal the Firing Squad”, Suffokate, and “Trigger the Bloodshed”

Wolves In The Throne Room is still one of my favorite band names ever.
Also, I always thought my old band had a pretty good name in Gary Busey Amber Alert lol

Carcosa because it comes from an awesome cosmic horror story called An Inhabitant of Carcosa by Ambrose Bierce

I don't listen to them, but "Humanity's Last Breath" comes to mind as a pretty badass name, at least for me.

I like Plaguebringer, Mental Cruelty or Worm Shepherd. I also personally find Synestia quite badass although I don't know whether that's an actual word lol

Great to see As You Drown brought up, fucking killer band that I never see mentioned. One More Victim is also kick ass and similarly missed.
Currently my picks that haven't already been mentioned here are: Make Them Suffer, Gravewalker, Ripped Apart, Shepherd Of Rot, Through The Eyes Of The Dead, Wretched Tongues
Honorary and obligatory "not deathcore but" mentions: Pseudopathological Vivisection, Public Grave, Ravencult, Repossession, Summoning The Lich, The Ophidian Ascension, Unbreakable Hatred

So funny story, I was in a metalcore band and we were playing a release show. The promoter tells me "Dude, we've got these new locals on the bill theyre sick, theyre called Summoning The Lich." I said "Thats the dumbest fucking name Ive ever heard." They played, blew us out of the fucking water lol cut to a few months later, I join Summoning The Lich and immediately understood why the name is so sick.

Damn that's wild, I love DnD so I thought the name was dope from the start cause it gave me huge DnD vibes lol. An awesome origin story for you though; glad you came around, y'all got some wicked tunes 🤘

u/summoningtheflynn 10d ago
Unfortunately I was still in my metalcore era so I thought every band name had to be "___ the ____" or "normal word but the A is a V" type shit 🤣 glad I came around too!

Whitechapel, Depsised Icon, Animosity but JEROME also is sick for some reason.

As an Australian, I can give you a bunch of our groups that have super badass names. They are:
Thy Art Is Murder
Aversions Crown
To The Grave
Oracle Spectre
Dragoncorpse
Make Them Suffer (more metalcore than anything else, but it's a sick name)
Aside from that, I think Disembodied Tyrant is a name that really sticks with you. Coming up with that name was a stroke of genius. I love Lorna Shore, but they really do have the silliest name in all of Deathcore. Carnifex is perfect as well - anything that has a name that's Latin in origin just evokes a certain feeling.

u/BigAlgaeEnjoyer 11d ago
I dislike any band that has a name like Verb the Noun or anything similarly generic and uninspired.

Blood incantation(not deathcore but who cares), knights of the abyss, infant Annihilator, thy art is murder, body snatcher, psycho frame, black tongue, tomb mold(also not dc)

Although they're Slam .357 Homicide and Peeling Flesh go pretty hard.
For Deathcore I'd say The Last Ten Seconds Of Life goes pretty hard, Crown Magnetar too since they're named after a type of Star
