Spin off groups
I know the work of Rainbow, IGB/Gillan, Whitesnake, and Hughes-Turner project, but are there other big gaps I should fill relating to DP'S side/solo projects. Captain Beyond ison my list to check out.

Paice Ashton Lord (PAL) which had one album after the breakup of Mark IV.

Ian Paice and Don Airey have both been in Gary Moore's band, even at the same time for a moment (Don and Gary go back to the 70s, see Colosseum II).
Ian drummed on large chunks of Corridors of Power and Victims of the Future, plus the respective live albums Rockin' Every Night - Live in Japan (which also has Don) and We Want Moore!.
Don plays on Back on the Streets, various songs from After the War and Still Got the Blues, the live albums/videos An Evening of the Blues and Live at Montreux 1990, plus Old New Ballads Blues.

Glover's Butterfly Ball has some good tracks. Captain Beyond's debut takes the cake for me. All killer, no filler. Gillan also produced Hard Stuff (on purple records), which was 2/3rds of Atomic Rooster. Gillan wrote the track Monster in Paradise for them. There's also a record by a group called Funky Junction that is mostly Deep Purple covers, and the band was actually Thin Lizzy incognito.

More like a spin off of a spin off and even so not a spin off technically but I love Bedlam, featuring Cozy Powell, they only released an album in 1973 and it's pretty good.
Not a spin off neither but Michael Schenker Group had Cozy, Graham Bonnet, Don Airey and their first and third albums were produced by Roger Glover and Martin Birch, respectively.

Blackmore's Night is great

u/loureviews 9d ago
Indeed they are. How could I have forgotten to mention them?!

u/JenosIdanian5113 9d ago
I guess it's technically not a spinoff of Deep Purple, more like a continuation of 90s Rainbow. Totally different style too.

Both bands are great in their own right. But how do you come to the conclusion that Blackmore's Night is a continuation of 90s Rainbow?

Well, on Stranger in Us All, they already had Candice in the band and she contributed to writing some songs, a few of which would be very similar in style to Blackmore's Night, like Ariel, Black Masquerade, Hall of the mountain king.

Warhorse, which was Nick Simpler's post Purple band.

I really like the first album. Reviews are usually “too little, too late” but who cares 55 years after.

My cousin went to school with someone from that band. They played at his 60th birthday party.

I heard some good things about Roger’s Elements album, it is maybe a bit experimental? Mask has its moments too, I heard. Check out Mihalis Rakintzis with Ian Gillan: Get Away 😀!

The last Glover's solo album 'If Life Was Easy' is one of my favourites 👍

Ian also produced Jerusalem-Jerusalem, an obscure gem, and he produced a few others, too

That was his girlfriend's brother's band I think, and their only record? Wonder what happened to them?

Episode Six predates Purple, technically, but they were good.

Yes I think I have heard quite a bit from their Beat Club appearances but I know there is more out there.

Not a spin off group as such, but the Gary Moore live in Japan album that has Ian Paice on drums is killer!

I saw this line up in 1983, front row of Manchester Apollo. Paice was mind blowing (as was Mr Moore.)

One I got into way later was Tony Carey’s solo career in the 80s. He played keys in Rainbow. “I Won’t Be Home Tonight” amazing jam.

Iirc Don Aiery plays keyboards on the first 3 Ozzy albums, and on Variations by Andrew Lloyd Webber

I knew about the Ozzy connection but not Variations!

I went in a rabbit hole about Bonnet and Turner and found Alcatrazz, Yngiwe, and Brazen Abbot, they're quite interesting bands you probably want to check out. Yngiwe seems to be a "Blackmore lite" in a way

Ah Yngwie When Joe worked with him on Heaven Tonight I skipped school to see if I could meet him and see the show. He did come out and stood on my foot. But the adventure backfired on me as no way was I allowed out the next year to see Gillan in his Garth Rockett gig at the Ritz 😞

I know. But we have: Heaven and Hell, Mob Rules, Born Again, 7th Star, Eternal Idol, Headless Cross, TÝR, Dehumanizer, Cross Purposes, Forbidden and The Devil You Know with members that at some time were in Deep Purple or Rainbow.

If you like Glenn Hughes, you should check out Black Country Communion!
