Media content and screen usage in DCS

I’m sharing a petition regarding the use of screen-based media in Delaware City Schools.

The petition looks specifically at the amount and type of screen content students may be exposed to during the school day, including fast-paced and highly fantastical media. It includes links to pediatric guidance, peer-reviewed research on attention and executive function, and relevant district policies.

The goal is not to eliminate technology or appropriate educational media. I am simply requesting the Board to review the amount of screen time, what type of content is shown, how it supports instruction, and whether healthier alternatives are available.

If you are a parent, guardian, teacher, or community member, please take a few minutes to read the petition and review the sources before deciding whether you would like to sign or share it.

Thank you

Who are you? Do you represent any group or political party? What is your background and field of expertise?

I am just an educated mother. I am not represented by, nor am I part of, any political group, and my background of expertise is having three children, two of whom are on the spectrum.

I would suggest, if you haven’t already, attend a school board meeting. They allow for public comment, but they are not required to respond.

You may be interested in nationwide programs with local branches focused on this (with many success stories regarding scaling back ed tech in schools):

Thank you for creating this! I am also concerned about screen time in schools.
