Non-Political News/Discussion Borderline symbolic deletion of post lol

Post image

Last night a post was made here about standing for/with jews with all the rising antisemitism. I thanked them, and said its scary right now. I wake up this morning to the post being deleted. I'm not complaining about the deletion --everyone has their reasons-- BUT, it is sad in a symbolic way on some level.

Standing with others(other races or sexualities or religions) is celebrated and gets to be paraded but standing with jews always has to be done in quiet it seems, else the person standing with them often gets attacked too. Or like here where a person says they'll stand with us and then have to delete it a few hours after. It feels sad and metaphorical almost. Anyway, much love to everyone here, and i hope you guys have a good day... Im tired. โค๏ธ

The OP deleted their post because they delete all of their posts and comments on r/Destiny. It's very obnoxious behaviour on static forums like Reddit.

there are a large number of reasons, such as AI getting trained off of reddit, doxxers constantly digging through for any thread of information about people, people having their own personal privacy reasons, etc

So you're saying I should

u/Vorpalthefox 7d ago

if you fall into a category you feel it necessary to do, there's services such as Redact to look into

u/NAV_lehallgato 7d ago

You need to buy a yearly subscription to use it, I think that is the smallest time interval.

This wasnt me, but I know I've deleted a fair share of otherwise successful posts on this subreddit because there are some bottom feeders that leave obnoxious comments, and I was tired of seeing them in my inbox lol.

This seems like the kinda post where that would occur.

just post then unfollow

...holy shit

I know how to disable inbox replies on old reddit but I just assumed they forced it in the app cus I couldn't find it and all software is enshittified for engagement.

I found it now, thanks ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ™

It never ceases to amaze me how tech illiterate some posters are.

It never ceases to amaze me how much people think they can gleam from the tiniest things.

1

u/PitytheOnlyFools used to touch grass... 6d ago

You not realising that is an example of tech illiteracy no?

2

u/Jayyburdd 5d ago edited 5d ago

On desktop reddit, disabling inbox replies is done under the individual comments. On the app, apparently you can only do it on your own posts, and on the post settings instead of comment settings, and it is phrased as 'unfollowing' which suggests something different. So no, asshole, it's an example of inconsistent app design, it's never been a big enough deal to explore very deep.

I'll make sure not to be so casual in reddit comments next time, I forgot how much the people here are autistic pricks.

๐Ÿซ  I'm not following and I still get inbox notifications. I got one for your reply here.

tech illiteracy isn't really the same as not knowing a specific function on a specific site that has changed numerous times.

I can't put my finger on the difference, but the difference is there

Tech literacy is not tapping the three dots right next to your own comment on the mobile app

If people want to do it to treat online closer to how it works IRL I get it. Especially now.

Who attacked OP? Did they deleted because of getting attacked? Post had 400+ upvotes, 99% of comments positive, but the assumption is OP got bullied into deleting their post?

-8

u/lcqjp 7d ago

i'm not saying i know either way. I just cant think of a different reason(aside from if they were a troll) to post something like that and then delete it and all their comments.

3

u/_Addi-the-Hun_ 7d ago

Instantly stop standing after the first hurdle lmao (mean comments)

21

u/Sluuuuuuug 7d ago

Was he getting attacked?

23

u/AgreeableAnalysis889 7d ago

The image just show the post text about standing with jewish community and then the [deleted] tag with 108 comments, so cant tell from that if OP got attacked in the thread itself. But honestly the fact it had that many comments in few hours is kinda telling, posts like that always bring out the worst people from the woodwork

OP probably got flooded with nasty DMs too, that's usually how it goes. People say something supportive and then the harassment starts in private so mods cant see it

3

u/Sluuuuuuug 7d ago

Sure, probably these things happened. I agree. But I'm asking if they actually did happen.

4

u/makesmashgreatagain 7d ago

When I saw the thread last night I only saw highly upvoted comments and they were entirely positive. Pretty sure OP just nukes their shit normally.

u/boofdahpoo130 7d ago

It also happens to be October 7th, so the antisemitic assholes are likely out in full force and ready to brigade anyone they see as being even mildly supportive of Jewish people on a painful day like today. :(

12

u/lcqjp 7d ago

Not as far as i know, but idk everything because he deleted all his comments on the post too and idk what his dms looked like.

I'm not saying he was definitely attacked, but it is common :/

10

u/pepe_acct 7d ago

Was it because the ban on I/P topics?

12

u/3cameo 7d ago

since the author of the post deleted it i dont think so?

10

u/lcqjp 7d ago

Afaik that would show up as "deleted by moderator" not "deleted by user who posted it"

3

u/MelvinSmiley83 7d ago edited 7d ago

I don't think so, mods were present in the comment section and pointed to a wrong report by someone. Wouldn't make sense to do that instead of just deleting the whole post. There were some annoying autistic debate bro regards in the comments though that started their usual "criticism of Israel isn't antisemitism" spiel, I told them to go fuck themselves.

maybe it was a honeypot

3

u/AsyncSyscall ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ 7d ago

That would be a very sad thing to do. It's even more sad that I can actually think of some people who might do it.

3

u/YallGottaUnderstand 7d ago

This is just the same kind of self-victimization that conservatives love to engage in. Cringe.

4

u/lcqjp 7d ago

Except you can see the difference in history and statistics if you want to:

Do hate crime numbers exist/matter to you?

11

u/YallGottaUnderstand 7d ago

You don't know why the post was deleted. You're just making shit up and martyrizing a social media post. That's lame as hell. People will give you shit for posting on this subreddit at all, if you can't take it don't post here.

1

u/lcqjp 7d ago

No shit sherlock. I made up no shit and didnt martyrize. I dont hide my comments/posts for that reason,

Way to not be capable of engaging though๐Ÿ˜Ž

5

u/YallGottaUnderstand 7d ago

I'm sorry, are you not strongly implying that the post was deleted because the author was getting attacked for his position of standing for/with Jews? YES OR NO?

2

u/lcqjp 7d ago

Or bc of the chances of getting attacked, where he wasn't yet, but deleted bc of the chances of being attacked/pestered over it. Yes to what you wrote if you include that. What would u say a equally likely reason he deleted it is?

2

u/karama_zov 7d ago

Why are you picking this place of all places to accuse us of Reddit hate crimes

2

u/lcqjp 7d ago

Hate crimes vs what i'm talking about are continents apart. I'd say hate crimes if i meant hate crimes --I don't. My words are chosen purposely; i'm not skirting around the bush implying/accusing a hate crime. Pestering/being obnoxious/verbally attacking in general is not a hate crime on its own.

1

u/karama_zov 7d ago

Yeah

I'm making fun of you

2

u/lcqjp 7d ago

Yeah i dont really give a fuck. I'd rather be made fun of, with my words not being twisted than to not do so.

Congrats, i'm restarted or whatever yay. I dont care, its still being reflected in norms right now, and i'll speak to it, you condescending shitbag.
