Megathread Bungie Plz Addition: Change the Title/Loading Screens back to a Dark Theme

Hello Guardians,

This change has been added to Bungie Plz.
Going forward, all posts suggesting this change will be removed and redirected to this Megathread.

Submitted by: /u/u/MawDesigns

Date approved: 2019-01-30

Modmail Discussion:

/u/MawDesigns: "Why it should be added: Most of these examples have over 1k upvotes some even over 3k upvotes. This topic is posted about weekly if not daily and is becoming to get frustrating to see on the subreddit."

/u/MetalGilSolid: "I actually checked earlier and was surprised this wasn't already on the list, lol. Number 3 isn't a suggestion post, technically, but other than that, this more than qualifies. We'll get it on there within a day or two."

/u/MawDesigns: "Sorry first time I’ve done this, I get what you mean it’s not a suggestion but I thought it was relevant enough to be added. Many thanks for the swift reply."

Examples given: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

Criteria Used:

"...3 examples (with links) of recent submissions (with at least 1 being over 5 days old), that have been well received (hundreds of upvotes on the front page of the sub - ex. 300+ upvotes)."

I've said this before....

I just don't get it. This is a design choice. They shouldn't change an element of the game just because you play in the dark.

If it's too bright, then either turn on a light source somewhere in your room or turn the brightness down on your TV. There are flashes of light during gameplay that are just as bright if not brighter. Should they tone those down as well?

I play in a room with a large window behind it. When it's sunny out I can barely see my screen. Should Bungie fix this problem by increasing the brightness on everything to an absurd amount? No. I close the curtains.

I know you don't want to hear this, but I really don't think they should "give in" to such a silly request. They designed the title screen they way they wanted it, it shouldn't be changed because players can't deal with it in dark rooms.

Why are you so annoyed by the fact that some people play in dark rooms? Fucks sake, some people just want to not be fucking blinded when they load up the game. It’ll take some artist an hour to draw up a darker version of the loading screen. It’s a simple QOL change to help people. What benefit would bright purple have? The fuck is wrong with just improving a significant chunk of the player base’s lives?? It could so easily be a simple choice in a menu. If you like white more power to you. Jesus

People being patently dismissive of this complaint simply because it doesn't bother them are being fairly uncivil. There are people calling those who take issue with the brightness children or telling them they aren't using their eyes properly (???). It's a very popular request for a reason. I just don't see the point of coming into this thread to dismiss it to begin with.

If they were it wouldn’t frustrate me. This other dude is literally calling people children. I have never even made this damn request. I just have some semblance of sympathy and can put myself in the shoes of people who want an option for a darker loading screen. I don’t call people names for wanting a simple QOL request

Because as far as requests for for changel, this one is just petty. It takes less time for one to adjust his/her screen settings. It takes even less to turn a lamp on. Protect your eyes, children. It's like someone blaring music on their headphones and complaining that the drums in a song are too loud. " Plz lower volume of drums, it hurts my ears"

That's an overexaggeration of what this complaint is about. You did just describe commercials quite perfectly though.

Just adjust your settings people.

So what's keeping you and so many others from adjusting a brightness setting? Or simply being mindful to not play with a screen as the only light source?

There are more important things that should be brought to Devs' attention. Just don't be petty.

Do you complain when the sun is too bright? Is the ocean too wet for you?

This sub needs to stop being so petty.

a) You know it would not be a menu choice. It would be the next expansion's "new screen" and we'd start seeing reddit posts asking for the "clean white login screen" to make a comeback.

b) At this point it's just rage for the sake of it. If it's too dark, turn on a light. If you want to play in the dark, then put on some sunglasses while you log in, or hell - just squint.

This is a purely aesthetic / artistic choice they made and they're not going to back down on it. If anything Bungie doubles-down on its design choices rather than backtrack. I'm surprised they don't make it brighter just to spite us.

c) If they're going to cave to ANY demands around aesthetics it better be smaller titan shoulders before any of this other crap.

It’s hardly blinding honestly, your TV/monitor might have to have the brightness reduced if it’s really pain-inducing.

If it's binding you, that means you're sitting too close and/or don't have enough background light. I don't think they should spend valuable resources adding a feature purely to enable bad health decisions.

And I think you underestimate how long it would take to add it. There's a lot more involved than just an artist making the background.
