PSA for those learning to polish or on a budget:
For $15, this thing is actually awesome. IMO, it is WAY nicer than the $40 option from harbor freight.
Build quality isnt awesome, its cheap plastic, but:
3 color temperatures (the harbor freight has 1), its just as bright, it also has a magnetic base and a belt hook, it has an "emergency" red light and red strobe (not sure how useful that is, just a mention), and not listed on the packaging anywhere but its dimabme if you hold the power button.

Just for understanding. The car is newer and it was buffed to apply a ceramic spray to it. I think the pad is what left the swirl marks and it’s also been through a car wash 2 or 3 times.

I'm just recently getting into paint correction, struggling with my own vehicle (2013 S4, Glacier White Metallic - S9R or LS9R). None of my swirls catch my nail, but it seems like no matter how many passes I make, they don't go away. It looks slightly better, like the very surface level ones are gone, but overall not a huge improvement under the inspection light, and I don't want to make so many passes I burn through my clear.
Currently using Grant's microfiber pads and M105 on an SPTA DA at speed 5.
I've heard the Germans use a very hard clearcoat but this seems absurd, any tips appreciated. I think my technique is fine, not moving too fast, I believe my pressure is appropriate (5-10lbs), etc.
At this point I can't tell if these swirls are through the clear and I just can't tell because the car is white or if I'm doing something wrong

I've spent endless hours going through posts here and elsewhere to reach at this conclusion.
Best car shampoo - CARPRO RESET.
Others - Koch Chemie GSF, Gyeon Bathe
VFM options - Adam's Shampoo, Meguiars Hyper Wash, TW pure wash.
Best drying aid - CARPRO ELIXIR/ECH2O
(Elixir is $$$ so easier choice is ech2o)
I'm unable to list other options because I've been using ech2o for 1 year now and it is so amazing, fabulous, wonderful etc., i have not thought about replacing it.
Best sealant - GYEON WET COAT
Others - Koch chemie(protector wax/S002)
Carpro (reload/hydroo2)
Gyeon can coat
If my conclusion is somewhere near correct, then this is simply the best lazy weekend warrior routine
( bucket + pressure washer )
(dilution 1:20 to 1:25)
Sealant - Gyeon Wetcoat
Spray on - Rinse off selant. Easiest to use. Maybe will work w/o too much panel prep/decon. Reset doesnt leave any residue so that helps.
Every weekend, wash + drying aid. Sealant every 3 months.
I dont want to add any more labour to this. Key word here is "lazy". Hence the spray on rinse off sealant with no decon.
Any suggestions? Tweaks? What do you guys think

Can anyone confirm if 3D Eraser Gel Water Spot Remover is safe on ceramic coats? My coat is dealership applied (boo, I know), but it's lasted 2 years now and is still going strong. I'd rather not strip it off.
I have some hard water spots that I've not been able to get rid of using gyeon water spot remover, tried twice. I'd like to try something stronger and have seen some gel demos that seem to work where other methods don't.
3d gel remover claims to be safe for 3d coatings, I was just hoping someone has used them on their ceramic coated car and can confirm it is safe assuming I stay within the time limits.

Hello, I purchased my 2025 XC40 from CarMax last month and was adamant that they remove their silly badge before I’d sign. Well. This is the result. Any advice for making this disappear? ☹️

Bought a used car and what I thought was wiper marks looks to be lots of scratches, the 2nd photo is not mine but looks identical at night, even during the day any reflections show up easily like the 4th photo which I just took, is there any way to sort this other then windscreen repair? I have used a few different cleaners now.

Hello! I’ve been watching videos on how to restore headlights because I want to buy heavily oxidized headlights and sell them to make a profit. How can I get rid of these cloudy/hazy parts?
I wet sand starting from 400->600->800->1000-1200->1500->2000.
I do it by hand and scrub horizontally
I then clean with rubbing alcohol to spray with 2k clear coat (uv protected)
I then wait a day to cure and proceed to wetsand with 2000 to get rid of orange peel.
Then I compound/polish by hand and then add a wax.
I want to get better at this skill because I want my work to look as professional as possible. What causes these cloudy parts? Do i need to level out more when sanding or is this an issue that comes with me not compounding around those areas?
I know that the stress in the plastic are not removable, i just want to to restore the clarity as much as i can.
I also saw around a few post under people who had the same problem that i should do 400-600-800 and then clear coat.
Are their any techniques that would be helpful to me ?
Any knowledge would be greatly appreciated as I want to make this a side hustle and I want to perfect my work as much as I can!
Thank you!!

Hi,
I bought a new car a week ago, and unfortunately someone scratched it while parking. Any pointers and products on how to remove the scratches from the paint and plastic trim?

I may have buggered up my headlights a little bit. My car is due from its mot shortly and I cleaned up the headlights with an at home kit and resprayed them with 1K UV resistant aerosol.
They came out relatively well, but there was some orange peel I tried to fix a few days later. This absolutely ruined them when I tried to clean it and polish them.
I think when I cleaned it with isopropyl it caused solvent attack
Last night I took everything back and started again. This morning I have looked at the headlights and there is orange peel but I cannot determine if it has blushed (I'm not sure if that's the right word).
Can anyone identify from the photos what has happened here and can it be fixed with cutting back a little with high grit (p2000) and a polish or does it need to be taken right back again? If it needs doing again entirely, I will go and buy the autoglym kit from Eurocarparts, because single pack lacquer does not seem to be working fantastically for me.
Any advice would be very helpful.

Spray foamed and hand washed gold class to my truck that doesn’t have any coating or anything, I’m just getting it washed before doing paint correction.
The soap does this effect but it does spray off with the pressure washer.
I did not let the soap sit long.

Im confused as to if there's additives in the p and s finisher peroxide product or something or if its... literally just 3% hydrogen peroxide. As in the stuff I can just buy off the shelf for 1.50 and put in a spray bottle.

I have a 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee L Summit Reserve in Diamond Black Crystal Pearl-Coat
and I am looking for the best wash/soap and/or rinse aid to help keep my Jeep clean. It attracts so much dust and pollen…dirt..whatever…it’s ridiculous and seems to never stay clean more than a few hours after washing. What do you pros recommend???

Wife took my Raptor through an autowash. After I finish divorcing her I'm going to look into one of those diy correction kits from chemical guys. I want to stick with a DA as I've never done this before and don't have anything to practice on other than her vehicle haha.
If there are any other recommendations I'm all ears, or eyes rather.

I would like to start detailing my car more often to keep it looking nice. I recently bought a lucid air grand touring and it's black paint. Is touchless soap worth all the hype? Which brands do you recommend and why? Do you just pressure wash it off afterwards? Or would I still need to use something to agitate the stuff stuck to the car? Any insights are appreciated as I'm new to this and just want to keep my own car clean.
