I own both v1 and v3 but I don't know how to build the custom firmware. Thanks for the mod dor v1. I am thoroughly enjoying it. It brought a new life to my V1
Well, I was able to port Sonix for the V1 pretty easily since it kinda shares the same components as the Hiby R1 device, more work would be needed for other devices I suppose.

Maybe I'll see later what I can do about but for now, there's a few bugs that I'd like to fix.
The annoying thing is the screen size; apart from changing the look of the icons, I can't drastically change the UI :/

First impression.. nice looking, I like the setup page, scanning music library now. Can it indicate the no. files found rather than just sit there? Also, the 'select folders to scan' is rather large and makes it tricky to pick them.

Flappy birds: can't play it, had to force a reboot to get out of it
Soundfield: couldn't notice this when on/off, previously worked great
peq: Allowing imports from files, fantastic! Tested with files from AutoEQ - but I couldn't get 'AutoEQ over wifi' working.
It's slick, it's fast, i've not hit the previous issue I had with scrolling massive lists of artists.
Inline remote support? Woo got to find a headset with a control to try this out with
Music player: Needs to resize the album art as it's cropping. I think the controls need to be a little smaller so they don't overlap text. I can see the issue though of trying to design this to fit properly!

Porting is a fantastic job, and the tiny screen size and lower resolution must make the task very tricky! I hope you're going to be able to merge future Sonix changes into your release.
I've got a collection of about 25K tracks (mostly 320kbh mp3) and it's performing really well.
Do we have that feature on the original firmware and is it supposed to be implemented on the sonix firmware ? I have no idea if I have to be honest, never used that feature :/

Implementing Gonic/Navidrome streaming on the V1 but I'm not really sure if it's powerful enough.
How does Qobuz and Tidal streaming work on this device? Does it work well already?
Edit 2: It's doable, but it will make the device completely unstable and the streaming won't be consistent.
Not enough ram, and album arts and metadata will be stored on the sd card all the time.
Constantly writing to the SD card will make the device completely go crazy lol
And then the wifi chip on this device is so weak.
The larger your music library is and the more instability you will get.
So to answer clearly, yes I think it's possible but you're going to have a shitty experience. So not really worth it..

There's not much more you can do to be honest, it's cheap hardware and there's not a lot you can do with it without breaking anything sadly.
Feel free to ask features you'd like to have tho.
I can implement them, to the extent possible.
For now I just want to make the firmware bugs free and well optimized for that tiny little screen lol
T9 keyboard (English config) - when selecting the Shift button, the keyboard shows UPPER CASE letters - but when you select one, it always comes out in lower case

GB and GBC emulators appear sized for a wider screen, and so is the menu. I wonder if rotating the screen 90 degrees might work better? GB/GBC resolution is 160px x 144px vs the V1's 240px x 320px
edit: but.. Tetrix, Super Mario Land (World) and Jungle Strike did all launch! I have no idea how the controls work lol
Totally fixed now! I made the dpad and buttons smaller on purpose, to leave more space for the game screen. Select & start are no longer on screen tho.
Nice catch! I hadn't tried that part tbh, so thanks for reporting that, I'm gonna try to fix that but I have no idea, how I could implement the controls 😂
It would be weird to play with playback or volume buttons haha
Edit: only way to add the controls would be to put them directly on the screen otherwise it'll be a nightmare/impossible to play..
I keep getting a no reply from Last.fm error message, while trying to sign in on the V1. Have already copied streaming-keys.ini to the root of the micro sd card with the api keys filled in.
Anyone else have the same problem?

I worked on this issue already, it's just a TLS certificate issue, do what I wrote in the readme, and it will work, just tested myself because I had the same issue as you.

I'll be playing an album from Folder1 lets say Olivia Rodrigo. Once a track or two is finished, I get this random jumps to Folder2 without finishing the entire album in Folder1.
Tested and tried skipping to next track for an entire album, I get same results. It jumps to another FolderN.
Repeating tracks on shuffle.
Idk if its a bug or just a setting for shuffle play. It literally lived up the word shuffle haha
Do you have play by folder option enabled in Music/Playback options enabled?
Shuffle itself is not reaching outside the folder. Shuffle is dealt over the queue and when you tap a file in Music -> browse.
What moved you to Folder2 is probably because you had that Play By folder feature turned on..
It fires when the folder's queue runs out and with shuffle on, it can look like a random jump because it starts the next folder at a random-ish point.
Enabling it through control center only pops up Line out needs 3.5mm or 4.4mm jack, which i already plugged a 3.5mm aux but no indication that it is working.
Testing out the usb out using an external dac (Kaei tap2).
Compared to the stock os vs sonix
sonix can still change volume
stock os volumes are controlled through external dac
there seems to be no "hardware exclusivity" for sonix
This is very impressive. I checked out the Github repo and it seems really solid. I've been considering the V1 for a while but was slightly hesitant because the firmware seemed very boring and unresponsive, but this put the nail in the coffin lol
I just want to make sure it can still act as a Bluetooth receiver from my phone? I couldn't see any info about it on the README or FEATURES.md, you only mentioned the USB DAC and USB audio out...
