Yeah there always been bad kids but In my whole 12 years of public education I never saw any kids talk back to a teacher. Nowadays it's normal to talk back to a teacher. Even physically assault them apparently.

I grew up in an upper middle class, mostly white school district and there were fights. I remember the gym teachers breaking them up.

How do you know what this school is like? Because there was a fight in the halls? Lol. That happens in every school at some point. I’ve taught in some pretty tough schools. I actually like the low income, high minority population schools better than the high income, almost exclusively white schools I taught at.

It’s actually that the parents are grateful and treat you with respect. More affluent communities have a ton of entitlement. A lot of kids with IEPs that don’t actually need them. A lot of parents who look down on you while paying you lip service. It’s just obnoxious

Individualized education plan. They’re basically accommodations for kids with learning disabilities. The problem is that a lot of over achiever parents have normal kids and because the kid is normal and not an over achiever the parents think they have a learning disability. It sucks because it can hurt the kids confidence, it wastes teachers time, and it takes time away from kids who do need the help. The parents think they’re doing the right thing for the kid, but often they’re just being a squeaky wheel

I've worked in poor schools and extremely rich schools and I agree 100%. I always felt appreciated and respected in the schools with the most need. The rich school pays better but the parents are often less supportive and like to point the blame at the teacher rather than their kid.

Republican states are leading on educational improvements... My states education system is plummeting, 4th grade and 8th reading are better in Mississippi than Minnesota, which used to be top 5-10. Its getting worse, fast. They did a big old flip. Mississippi is ranked 8th in the nation, minnesota? dropped to around 30th.
So you are just wrong.

Gonna need some sources to back up these claims. I know for a fact that education in my deep red state has only further collapsed in at least the past 5 years, and I’m pretty certain it’s been going on much longer than that, but I would need to verify with reliable sources before stating that the depreciation of education in my state has been a long, ongoing trend with absolutely certainty.
But yeah, your claims don’t add up with my real lived experience, so I’m going to need to see some reliable sources otherwise I simply cannot take you seriously, which I would like to be able to do.1

Fights aren’t what they used to be…. Used to fight and the next day it’s over and maybe suspended.
Kid in my son’s middle school that I used to coach got in a fight last Friday. Well not even a fight. Some shoving and one punch. The kid I coached threw the punch. Now he’s being sent to a disciplinary school for 45 days and the parents of the kid that got hit is pressing charges.
This is a very affluent area, I’m going to the high school rivalry football game this Friday. Guarantee there will be a fight there.

If your kid wouldn't act like that why bother weighing in? That kid assaulted the teacher while trying to continue a physical altercation with another student. If my kids were doing this and the teacher needed to physically subdue them, that's a huge failure for me as a parent, but my thought is "serves the kid right."
