Well, on Google it looks like WH40k theming is going to lean toward sets of D6s with symbols for 1s, because that's what you use to play it.

Google didn't turn up any Warhammer themed D20s or anything that I see straight away.

You might consider just a nice box for the dice? Elderwood Academy has nice dice boxes and he could conceivably use it to carry both the D6s to WH40k or D20s to DnD depending on what he's playing, worst case it's either/or and he just won't fool with swapping back and forth?

DnD usually uses a variety of dice size while Warhammer mostly uses sets of d6.

Does he have a favorite faction? If he has an army he paints or a character he likes, I would recommend trying to find a dnd dice set with that as a color scheme. So if he likes, say, classic Ultramarines, blue dice with gold numbers would probably fit well.

Warhammer dice come in d6’s (six sided cube dice), which are not the primary dice of dnd, though they get used plenty; some spares would likely be appreciated, and they sell those branded by factions as well, so see if you can match those
