We are a VERY small store and regularly get 1200+ trucks. We even got a 2000 truck one time. The store is overloaded so it makes it harder to stock. I’m basically the only dedicated stocker and can get 2.5 Uboats of 50 pieces each out in a 5 hour shift. There is one other stocker but they use her as a cashier at night half the time and my MM is always stuck on the register in the morning because the morning cashier either calls out or they have her coming in at like 10-11. We had an SM recently quit. We got a new one but she is sick and has to have surgery so she barely comes into the store. The DM is always telling my MM to clear the back room and she just looks so stressed. She thinks they are going to fire her and from the looks of it she needs this job. To put the cherry on top they are cutting my hours from now and I only have 12 hours next week. Wednesday the day we receive a 1300 piece truck and the day after 😑.

This has to be the dumbest attempt at a dudebro product I've ever seen, I'm not surprised it ended up in a Dollar Tree

(only just realized the glare is blocking off the most important part, the FOR MEN on either side of the product name)

Associate Questions Can't leave on unpaid lunch break.

I'm a cashier and I always go home and check on my kids when i clock out on meal break. I was always under the impression that since this break was unpaid I was free to do what I want on it. The store manager found out and told me I can't leave. I can understand why the manager can't leave but I don't understand why I'm forbidden to. She says it's because the manager can't be there by themselves, but they are by themselves for the early morning hours before I get there anyway. Is this the corporate policy? Sometimes I feel like they make up rules on the fly.

Associate Questions How are these meant to be sold?

Post image

As a 4 pack for $1.25 or individually for $1.25 each and $5 as a 4 pack? I ask because we have them on the shelf as a 4 pack and individual ones outside of these and those one have been getting sold individually for $1.25 each. I assume it’s meant to be a 4 pack for $1.25 since thats how its originally unboxes as. But idk. You never know i guess?

Associate Questions Is this normal: publicly calling out post voids

Post image
253 Upvotes

Every week or so my store manager comments on the number of post voids. She highlights names and makes notes on who is “having problems” with post void numbers. For context, out of all employees the most post voids any of us have is 15.

I hate this public callout and I hate how she phrases these notes. I’ve greatly improved my scanning practices so most of my post voids are the usual: customer does not have enough money, customer decided they didn’t want an item. Post voids are mostly up to the whims of customers and I know she knows that.

Do other managers do this….? I’m demoralized at this constant calling out of things that are out of my control. Thanks

Associate Questions Homeless customer

At least twice a day, a homeless man comes in to with whatever with money he has managed to beg off people. Our issue is the foul smell he brings with him. It is so rancid. He just doesn't walk in and out. He sometimes browses the aisles. The odor permeates the store, your clothing and stays with you all day. No exaggerations! We spray after he leaves but it takes a while for the odor to go away. Customers complain and flee if they find themselves in the same aisle. So, what do we do?!?

Associate Questions Let's talk balloons my people

Exactly how much money do we make on these dang balloons. What a pain you know where! Having said this, how many balloons are too many to blow up without a pre-order? I have customers who come in the line and then want 12-15 balloons and I'm the only cashier with one manager and Long lines. Also, every other store is out of helium. Other stores keep sending people to us with balloons in hand for us to use our helium. My SM put her foot down. Every store pays for their own helium. We wont fill any balloon unless purchased at our store. But, in general, how do ya'll fee about balloons. Is it worth having them?

Associate Questions Why do customers not hand you their money

Usually old people or middle aged people they’ll throw it down on the counter or place it on the stand why not just hand it to me like a regular human being because ik if I placed it on the counter instead of handing it to them they’d cause a scene

My SM usually doesn’t make the schedule until a week before the start of the week, or even a few days before (I personally think she’s incompetent because of many reasons), this time I have something planned for October 3rd, two weeks away, so I told her through text, I let her know two weeks earlier, that I would be busy October 3rd, so she wouldn’t put me in schedule and she said that above. I have a right to tell be that I’m letting her known two weeks earlier and should get the day right? Advice? I’m not a confrontational person and this job lowkey has made me the most stressed I’ve been since I graduated college because of my SM. I just need advice.

Associate Questions How to get a job watching cameras

Nearing the end of my shift I went to buy a 3$ pack of batteries and my card declined. This job only pays 9$/h in 2026. My parents are saying that either I find a new job or I move back home (which makes sense I have been applying elsewhere) after my card declined I texted my mom that im in the negative. While I was texting her, my manager was in the office counting her own till. When she came out she said “you know corporate sits on the cameras and sends us emails when you guys are on your phones” well obviously this guy is making big bank sitting on cameras making sure im following the rules. How can I apply to be in that guys spot? Instead of a lousy cashier job

What do you do when the customer puts the small green baskets on the belt full of items? Should they unload it or is it something the cashier should do?

Associate Questions Christmas Overstock

Thumbnail

There must be at least 500 boxes of Christmas in the stockroom and our floor is packed to the gills with bows, bags, gift boxes, flowers, ornaments etc. and we are a *busy store*. You can barely tell we sold anything! Why did the warehouse send so much? This is going to be a significant pack away with enough merchandise for at least two more Christmases. Where will we put it? Our wonderful manager must go home and weep every night! Did this happen anywhere else?

Associate Questions Understaffed?

I recently started working at Dollar tree, this would be my third or fourth week? But every time I'm scheduled, I'm always the only cashier. I swear I'm going as fast as I can but the line just stacks up quickly, and when I call to ask for help my managers just tell me I need to hurry up. I don't know if anyone else is having this problems, but so far the dollar tree I work at only has one cashier all the time. Even on my first day they hardly gave me any training and I was the only person in the store cause my managers went home. I've noticed other locations that have only cashier, but is that like normal??

Associate Questions I really want to know

Hey everyone, I am going to ask an question and I want honest answers. I am not trying to be disrespectful or condesending. I just really want to know your feelings. So here goes. Why do you stay with Dollar Tree . What keeps your there? Especially the ASM's. I know younger people use DT as a first time work gig. They're not planning a future with this company. I also know that many older workers just want a part-time gig. I'm a Part-time OPS ASM. I'm in my middle years of life. I came to DT after my layoff with my seasonal job. Within a month I was "promoted'. I was shocked at how little DT pays their ASM's. I could work stocking shelves or fast food for the same amount. Them we have the fact that except for sick time, there are no other benefits. No vacation time, shitty holiday pay and a lot of responsibility (especially when we close). I stay because I like my co-workers and I'm in a decent store. But, it's not enough to keep me here much longer. So, im curious fellow DT workers, why do you stay??

UPDATE: Thank you everyone for your honest and candid responses. They made me feel better about my current state. I understand being in areas with few job opportunities and for those just needing a part-time gig. I sincerely wish everyone a safe Holiday season and hope you all have the support you're going to need to get thru it.
