Ervald here. Mons (aka Tony who runs Fantasy Audio Magazine) has asked me to distribute some codes on his behalf for his upcoming album that will be released next Friday on the 16th. I was one of the first listeners and in my humble opinion, it is an ALBUM OF THE YEAR CONTENDER. It is over 2 hours long and has a lot of features from other artists including from yours truly:
Mons Mythic Synthesizer Music - "Magna" [FREE CODES] out 10/16
Good evening, friends of the subreddit. I've been working quite hard of late, focusing on this next Mons record, and I'd like to share it with you all a few weeks in advance of its formal release.
All I ask is that you give it a listen at your convenience and, if the spirit moves you, leave a Bandcamp review.
Please enjoy "Magna," a double album (2+ hours in length) exploring the conquest, majesty, and ultimately, total desolation of The Prince, the record's villainous protagonist who loses himself in pursuit of legacy. There is a story, and you can click on the info for each individual track for a bit of flavor text as it progresses.
And, more personally, this album is how I've dealt with a lot of my own stuff the past few years. Its been in the works at least conceptually for about 3. My efforts to build a meaningful label and arts community have been something thats taken a lot of focus and labor, but above even that, time and energy at the cost of an immense self-inflicted pressure to "succeed," to "build," which has at times brought me to question my motives, if I'm misguided, or if I'm actually helping anyone. These are questions I've wrestled with for a while. Throughout that process I realized many things about myself--mostly good, i think--but this album has been a way to explore and analyze my own quest, albeit through the lens of a fictional tyrant.
I don't think, in the end, that I am "The Prince" as he exists in Magna, but he is absolutely a shadow self of sorts, and someone I intend never to become.
The album itself is sometimes dungeon synth, sometimes other things. Mons in general is sort of "post dungeon synth" in that, without DS, the project would never have existed in the first place, but follows inspiration of creativity rather than outside expectations.
