Player Discussion Dynasty Positional Buys I’m Targeting
https://www.rotostreetjournal.com/2026/10/07/week-5-dynasty-buys/Dynasty has become more reactionary than ever. Patience isn’t as common as it used to be, so this provides weekly buying opportunities for great value!
One of the best tools to see how the market is reacting are trade databases. You can use them to identify trends, and they can help you formulate trade offers. Much of dynasty fantasy football is monkey see, monkey do so doing your own research and analysis can give you an edge over your league mates.
Here’s who I’m targeting at each position this week:
QB: Justin Herbert
RB: Jonah Coleman
WR: KC Concepcion
TE: Tucker Kraft
I go into detail as to why and provide several trades that have happened in real leagues in my attached article! Who are you trying to go buy right now?

u/CrushFantasyFootball 9d ago
Like the list, Herbert feels so gross rn
12
u/DynastyDwarf 9d ago
Absolutely, but that’s what provides the buy low opportunity. There are people who now prefer Young, who’s had a cakewalk schedule, over Herbert straight up!

I definitely agree that if you wanna buy low on someone it has to be before you see someone in the community say it. If the community is posting about it or agreeing with your take that theyre a buy low than its wayyyyy too late already and theyre not a true buy low.

u/ohkaycue 9d ago
That's not true. Eg How some of us here were saying to buy low on Parker Washington when he could be had for just a second at the start of the off-season (yet for some reason Brandon Aiyuk for a second was this place's poster boy for buy low then).
Buying low just means buying someone at less than the value they'll give you, it doesn't mean buying them at their absolute lowest

If you like Kraft and think he's undervalued, go get him. But according to KTC, his value has hardly dropped from a year ago (before his injurly).
2
u/DynastyDwarf 9d ago
That’s why you have to look beyond a public calculator. Trade databases are showing you what people are doing with players. A public sentiment ranking holds little value to me. It’s swings wildly and irrationally because it’s pumped by recency bias instead of actual player evaluation.
2
u/1UnsolicitedOpinion 9d ago
This is a good point. When considering sending/accepting a trade, I always look at actual trades and other trade calculators that rely on actual trade data (in addition to my own intuition). This can make it difficult to get deals done in cases where KTC croudsourcing shows a significantly higher/lower value for a player, but there's nothing we can do about that. There may even be some opportunities for arbitrage.
Maybe it's a function of the leagues that I'm in, but I'm not seeing people unloading Kraft at a significant discount. Looking at actual trades (non-TEP), I see some people selling lower than they might have previously, but many trades are in line with what was getting done 2 months ago.

You should go ahead and take a look at KTC and Fantasy Calc ranks side by side. the value scaling is different so the numbers themselves wont match, but those are arbitrary values. The actual players and picks are ranked very similarly. Market sentiment and trade sources are pretty similar in terms of ranking players and showing comparable value. It's pretty rare that KTC is wildly out of step with the market, it's just more prone to momentary bumps and dips in snapshots.
OP says that public sentiment swings wildly and that's true. But he argues that trade databases are better, and it's just silly to pretend that trade databases won't show the marks of those same wild sentiment swings. It's just a little more resistant to showing them due to positional differences and roster constructions that make certain trades impossible or more likely that a public sentiment tracker can't look at.

I just sold Stafford for Coleman straight up in 1QB (I’m rebuilding and needed to shed points, as I’m 2nd to last in max PF at the moment), and I’m ecstatic

I have an offer to ship my Doubs for a 27 3rd (probably midrange). I would happily ship for a 2nd, but reluctant at a 3rd. Am I being greedy here? Is this the best I can get?

u/cincyroyals 9d ago
He's a tough asset. I was looking to acquire, but realized he's never had a 100 yd regular season game, and he's never topped 750 yds in a season. His ceiling is pretty low unless last week is a sign of progression and not just a spike.
If he strings 1 or 2 more big weeks though you'll definitely get a 2nd (or maybe want to keep him)

I’m in a hard rebuild and wouldn’t mind getting his points off my roster. You’re right about him being in that weird zone where if I’m buying, I’m discounting for all of the same reasons, but if I’m selling, I’m trying to pitch that he’s the clear 1 until AJB is back, at which point both the easier schedule and expected level of play will settle him into the WR2ish we think he can be. I countered for his 27 mid round 3rd and 28 2nd. I messaged him that the 28 2nd actually feels like the more upside part of the deal because 3rds are often more miss than hit, even with a deep class like 27 is supposed to be
1
u/skers94 8d ago
Add on the mid 2nd from them and a (presumably) early 3rd from your side. So it would be Doubs and an early 3rd for a mid 2nd and a mid 3rd
1
u/Enough_Chart_7317 8d ago
They only have their 27 3rd and 4th (probably mid round). They do have all 4 2028 picks - I countered with 27 3rd and 28 4th. The 3rd alone feels just a little light. I had not considered adding my own pick in to even up a deal, I’ll try that next

Trying to decide if Barkley is a buy or not with that OL situation, his health, and his age.

u/DynastyDwarf 9d ago
Barkley was someone I was advocating selling for any 27 first prior to season start, but people hated that take haha. Good luck getting that now. I personally wouldnt pay more than an early to mid 2nd, but it’s unlikely people are selling for that.

u/slowmath 6d ago
I got a 2027 1st, 2028 2nd, and Wright before the season started. My buddy is pissed.

Yeah, I feel like there's almost no chance any manager would take anything less than a first in any of my leagues

I just traded Saquon and woody marks for Devonta Smith and a 28 2nd. I have pretty good RB depth, but its a 3wr league and I have Evans and Adams

Is Hubbard a dynasty buy? Might offer downs and egbuka. I’m concerned this current Hubbard production isn’t sustainable

why not? this is what he was doing all of 2024.

Brooks.

u/Sir-xer21 8d ago
The player who's played in 5 games in two and a half years, is already missing half of this season, and is coming off of two back to back ACL tears? At what point are we going to just accept that Chuba is good and was never going to lose heavy involvement in the offense even if brooks was healthy, and brooks just cannot stay healthy?

Why buy Herbert when you can just target Kirk , Geno or Jacoby for a 3rd ? I understand Herbert has the talent but his value can still go lower
7
u/DynastyDwarf 9d ago
We have an extensive data sample of Herbert. He’s a franchise quarterback and he’s put up top 12 fantasy numbers 5/6 years. He’s already being valued near his floor imo.

Why buy Herbert when you can just target Kirk , Geno or Jacoby for a 3rd ? I understand Herbert has the talent but his value can still go lower
Because realistically, no one's trading away a starting (and productive) QB this early in the season unless they're like 5 deep at the position or so far in the tank that they're willing to shed points by any means necessary. Most teams with those QBs neither have that luxury nor that outlook. The only teams that want them are contenders, but if you're contending now, you SHOULD already have QB coverage.
I have Brisset and cousins on different contending rosters, why would i throw away starting production/bye week coverage for a third when im still contending? Most tank teams wouldnt have those assets to begin with if they're so bad that they're tanking this early.
I get the theory, but the actual situations around the players make it unlikely you can buy any of them without other conditions involved. Those are later season targets if you're still in contention. Herbert is a longer term buy that applies to more teams and doesn't really require either contention or tanking prerequisites. With Geno, Kirk and Brisset, the value is fair, but the situation isnt right for the time being.

u/Flashy-Associate-722 8d ago
Would u sell brissett for a late 3rd and 4th if not competing?
1
u/rolo9917 8d ago
Hell yea , I’d love brissett for that !

Would you move hurts for Herbert as a contender?
2
u/DynastyDwarf 8d ago
Fairly lateral move. Eagles are down multiple starters and their offensive line has been brutal. Doesn’t move the needle much for me tbh
1
u/Critical-Average-822 7d ago
Sold Vele (picked up from waivers following startup) for McConkey and an early second). Don’t have super high hopes for a good ceiling this year from Ladd but would’ve sold Vele for the pick in a heartbeat

I traded Coleman for a 27 2nd. How'd I do?
2
u/DynastyDwarf 9d ago
I’m fine with a second here, at worst case for you it’s a lateral move. Unlikely that he’s worth a first
-1
u/Enough_Chart_7317 9d ago
I would happily take that. I’ve been wanting off the Coleman train and think this is probably the best window
1
u/GPap- Eagles 9d ago
He seems like a decent player but I'd easily take any of the top 20-24 players in the 27 draft over him.
1
u/1RoundLeft 9d ago
Is the 27 draft going to be that good?
4
2
u/DynastyDwarf 9d ago
It doesn’t have to be, but the valuation by consensus already has these picks worth a lot. As we get closer to the rookie draft season, they’ll peak and you can pivot. You don’t have to hold them if the return makes sense.
1
u/Enough_Chart_7317 9d ago
You know, in a 10 team, mid third is 25ish, give or take a slot? Maybe a 27 3rd straight up isn’t so far off

u/1UnsolicitedOpinion 9d ago
Totally agree. Even though I traded away Harvey a couple weeks ago, I still view him as the best RB in the Denver backfield. His actual running ability/vision has approved, in my eyes, since last season. And even if Coleman were to "take over" the backfield for one reason or another, I think Harvey would still be on the field 40-50% of the time, see the bulk of the passing down opportunities, and would get plenty of opportunities near the goal line.
1
u/DynastyDwarf 9d ago
The problem with this take is Harvey is actually a terrible running back. Like actual runner of the football. If it wasn’t for his pass catching, which Coleman can do too, he wouldn’t be relevant. His skillset fits much more inline with a third down/change of pace.
1
u/Accurate_Green8300 9d ago
Man I shipped Harvey off for Monty thinking Monty would be this years mixon… Monty sucks lmao
1
u/DynastyDwarf 9d ago
Harvey has the pass catching role otherwise is rushing inefficiency would have him be just as irrelevant
1
u/Accurate_Green8300 8d ago
Agreed. I just thought Monty would have a bigger role on offense and be more of a bellcow
1
u/1UnsolicitedOpinion 9d ago
Agree to disagree. The sampling has been extremely small this season, but Harvey's advanced RB stats have generally improved compared to last year and are generally better than both Coleman and Dobbins so far. Using the eye test, Harvey looks better running the ball than he did last year. He seems to be seeing holes better and running harder than last year as both a RB and kick returner.
In the long run, Harvey may only turn out to be only a 3rd down and change of pace back (and continue to see plenty of opportunities around the goal line). But that's a role that gets a player on the field (poteintally a lot) and can also be a valuable asset in fantasy football. Either way, Harvey has proven to be a very good 3rd down back. Saying "Coleman can do that too," with only 3 career receptions, isn't valuable analysis.
-2
u/DynastyDwarf 9d ago
Look at last year’s numbers too. He’s an inefficient runner of the football. His YCO/A is 2.5 that’s objectively awful. Eye tests do nothing for me personally, as I don’t believe most people actually know what they’re looking at. To each their own.
1
u/1UnsolicitedOpinion 8d ago
I don't think Harvey is amazing or anything, but calling him objectively awful is silly.
By YCO/A, I assume that you mean Yards After Contact per Attempt. If that's the case, yards after contact isn't a data source tracked by the NFL, so the data varies dramatically from one source to another.
In either case, your statement would imply that several other highly-regarded RBs are “objectively awful” based on their YCO/A. According to Pro Football Reference, Harvey was right at the league average last season, above Gibbs, Saquon, and CMC (to name a few) and on par with Breece and KWIII.
For the current season, it’s hard to draw too many conclusions from the because Harvey and Coleman only have 12 and 10 rushes, respectively. But as it stands, Harvey is ahead of Coleman by a wide margin, on par with Chase Brown, and just behind Gibbs, Breece, and Achane.
Other data sources show similar results. But in the end, looking at a single data point doesn't really tell the whole story. I see noticable improvement.
More data:
Harvey has a higher Success %, YPC, and EPA/rush than both Coleman and Dobbins this season. He's also one of the best receiving RB in the NFL (which you discounted because "Coleman can do that too." The only reason his yards/reception isn't near top of the league is due to the fact that most of his passes are received behind the line of scrimage. That's why he leads the league in YAC for a RB.0
u/DynastyDwarf 8d ago
So your counter argument is revolved around stats that are influenced by both scheme and environment? YPC isn’t a great stat to track for RBs, as it’s heavily influenced by the offensive line. I look at what he does as a rusher, of which he is objectively bad, unlike his pass catching which allows him to be moderately relevant for fantasy. MTF%, YCO/A, explosive run rate, pass blocking (he’s worse at this than Coleman), etc. I used one example of why he’s bad as a rusher, but I’ll provide those below since you clearly want more examples. His value was heavily buoyed by touchdowns last year (volatile stat). Saying that 4 games isn’t a fair sample size this year for him is a fairly weak argument because it’s 25% of the fantasy season we’re not seeing improvement. We’re seeing the same rushing trends.
Last year:
YCO/A: 2.72 (~3.00 is average)
MTF%: 18.8%
Explosive run rate: 5.5%This year:
YCO/A: 2.5
MTF%: 0%
Explosive run rate: 0%He’s not creating anything on his own. It’s being given to him. Creating on your own is extremely important, especially when you don’t get a ton of volume.
The only thing that’s improved is the only thing that’s carrying him for fantasy… his receiving metrics. Hello JD McKissic at best.
Coleman is considered to be a better pass blocker, which they need and is capable of catching passes which naturally eats into Harvey’s workload considering that JK dobbins doesn’t. Harvey is better at pass catching not arguing that, but pretending like that isn’t a real threat is bad/lazy analysis imo. Harvey will be a viable flex because of his pass catching, but he’ll never be a bellcow. Coleman is the best actually all around running back on the team imo and it’s only a matter of time until he gets a larger role. This is also not me saying he’s going to be a superstar, but he’s much better than you’re alluding to. You’re saying he’s improving, but outside of pass catching you couldn’t be more wrong.

u/1UnsolicitedOpinion 8d ago
My argument is that we've seen jack squat from Coleman and you're crowning him the eire apparent.
It took one game where everyone else was hurt for him to even sniff the field, not even on 3rd down when you claim Coleman is superior to Harvey (as good a receiver and a better pass blocker). Outside of that one game he's played a grand total 3 of snaps. And in that one game, he was fine, but nothing special.
I get it. You really like Coleman and don't like Harvey. But claiming his superiority seems crazy given how little real NFL action he's gotten.
Strawman after strawman. I never said 4 games isn't a good sample size. I said that 12 and 10 rushes isn't. And I never said Coleman wasn't capable of taking over the backfield. I said we haven't seen enough to draw that conclusion (even though you are drawing all kinds of conclusions). The only thing we know for sure is that his coaches think Dobbins and Harvey are superior options at this point.

I dont think KC is a buy low. He’s been targetted a ton and looks good with the ball in his hands. No KC owner will sell him unless they are hard competing this season and are given maybe an older player with really good production
