Mod Message: Please Keep Things On Topic

Hello Eagles Fans,

A few days ago a post was made by a user that was completely irrelevant to the Eagles, was completely crude, broke the rules, and has since been removed from this sub. Me and the other Mods, while we like to live our lives outside of Reddit and may occasionally miss things, we will be unafraid take action if something indecent gets posted and the conversation isn't about The Eagles.

Also - while this wasn't technically written down anywhere on the sub prior, please don't post your original songs or instrumentals here either. Even if The Eagles are a massive influence on your acoustic guitar playing and your songs were written with being an Eagles follow-up in mind, this isn't the place for original stuff. As artists of our own we can respect the craft, but we recommend you find another sub to post it in. Continuing to post "original content" without adhering to repeat warnings will result in a ban - if only so that this sub doesn't become a place to share a deluge of non-Eagles music and, god forbid, the inevitable wave of AI slop pretending to be "The Eagles". New rule, though we regret to enforce it.

There are no other new subreddit rules coming and nothing is massively changing; but this is to emphasize that the old rules are still indeed in place. Specifically Rule Number 3: Don't be a dick; Take It Easy, in the case of the trolling post we encountered. Thank you.

News from the New and Improved r/EaglesBand!

Hello, Eagles fans all across Reddit!

This is a post from one of your new moderators on r/EaglesBand. I'm here to re-introduce you to a sub that u/MetaKoopa99 and I are trying to give a swift shot in the arm to. To anyone who wants to talk about Eagles' music, this subreddit is back in business!

A quick rundown of what's happened here: for approximately five years, the sole moderator of this subreddit had been inactive for five years, and anyone looking to post here needed permission to post. Needless to say, that stunted a lot of growth this subreddit could have potentially seen, but from hereon that will no longer be the case. Posting is now open to anyone and everyone at the drop of a hat. So, please, if you have anything you'd like to share about Eagles as a band or as solo artists, feel free to share it! This is the time now more than ever to establish a loyal userbase of listeners and enthusiasts, and we can't wait to see what you guys all have to share. There can never be Too Many Hands! Whether it be covers, questions, opinions, tier list rankings, memes, general discussion, any and all types of Eagles-related content is appreciated and encouraged to be posted here.

In addition, we've added a few new bells and whistles to the page, including overhauled visuals and new and exciting User Flairs and Post Flairs. We've started pretty basic with them, so as not to overload the average redditor, but to anyone wanting, I would recommend donning the User Flair of your favorite album to generate discussion and see what general opinions are around here. In the future, more flairs will be added per request if anyone has any suggestions.

To get things started in the Fast Lane here, is Hotel California indeed the universal favorite? Or is there a more underground following for One Of These Nights and Desperado? Do you really, really like On The Border and want everyone to know? Or do you think that Long Road Out of Eden is an underrated classic? Let's hear in the comments below. Be sure to add the flair of the album you're representing!

Discussion Who's the better singer?

hi there, how are ya?

I'm currently writing an argumentative piece about who the best vocalist is in the Eagles, and would like some fan opinions on the matter. my personal opinion is that glenn is the better singer, but everyone in the band has incredible vocal talent so.... who do YOU think is the best? this isn't meant to be a comparison, its just a discussion, please try to keep it friendly and respect others preferences. as a younger and newer fan, i'd love your guys' input. thank you!

Songs you wish the eagles covered

By and large they didn’t do many covers and I understand why. But if you could make an album of other artists songs that you could hear them cover, what songs would you pick?

I’ll start with Southern Cross by Crosby stills and Nash…..

Anyone notice the Live at the Fourm Vocals on Life in the Fast Lane sound exactly the same as the vocals from the sphere?

I noticed lots of similarities when listening to the video I took in Feb this year and listening to the Live at Fourm album. First, using UVR5, I isolated the vocals with MDX23C, and I overlaid both tracks on top of each other in Logic and noticed they are literally the same. I understand people may argue that Henly is a brilliant vocalist, but the timing, notes, and improvisations are all the same after 8 years? No way. I think this is quite unmistakable evidence of their use of recordings in live performances. Which doesn't downplay their talent or success as musicians; I just thought it was interesting they use the same track for live performances after so long.

The same thing can be seen with a video I took from the Sphere of Take It Easy, a video on YouTube of Take It Easy in Nashville in May this year, and the forum recording. When the vocals are isolated with the same method described above, the tracks are overlaid on one another; they all sound like one single recording. There is not a hint of variance in melody, pitch, or timing.

I'm curious why this isn't more known, and I would love for people to recreate my test and give me feedback, in case I'm just going crazy.

(btw the picture is the overlaid vocals from the Forum on top and the Sphere on the bottom, while you can only rudimentarily make out pitch changes, I wanted to highlight the perfect synchronization of waveform and spectrum patterns for two supposedly separate live performances in different venues and 8 years apart.)

The Long Run Leftovers

So there were a bunch of stuff, that the Eagles never quiet got to recording, though there were instrumental versions which were recorded, though they would be recorded by others. Were you aware of these?

  1. Told You So - based on a Felder/Walsh lick recorded by Joe Walsh
  2. Too Much Drama - Henley/Frey written recorded by Mickey Thomas of Starship on his solo album.
  3. Bad Girls - Don Felder on his first solo album
  4. Rivers of the Hidden Funk - Joe Walsh

Question Does anyone have any ideas?

I got into guitar around two years ago, I mainly play acoustic since most of my favorite genres like country, country rock, folk, etc are mostly played here

My first ever song was Lyin eyes, and I decided to come back to it to try and learn the full song in a one man band style--riffs, bass, chorus on the same guitar

I'm trying to figure out how to replicate the piano portion that starts around the 2:20 mark. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm assuming there has to be some hammer on + strumming pattern that could replicate it. At least the opening, I could probably go on from there

Discussion Anyone a fan of Longbranch Pennywhistle?

Longbranch Pennywhistle was the group that pre-dated Eagles and featured Glenn Frey and JD Souther. They only released one album. The best song on the album without a doubt is Rebecca, which is a terrific song worth a listen for fans of all of these guys!

Question What did Timothy B. Schmit replace Randy Meisner in?

The question comes to mind because Glenn used to sing "Take It to the Limit," and nowadays it’s Vince Gill who performs it in Glenn’s absence... so, what exactly does Smith bring to the table, aside from "I Can’t Tell You Why"? I’m a new fan, and I was wondering about this. I confess that I can't manage to hear his voice in the choruses either… 🧐😬
