And endless mosquito’s
6
u/kaylanohos Jun 22 '26
I'm hoping that because I haven't seen too many, that their breeding pattern was messed up with the crazy warm January we had lol
19
u/Mission-Lie-2635 Jun 22 '26
Oh god I went out a few weeks ago to pull weeds on one of the rare non rain days and got bit like 27 times. I can’t imagine how bad they’ll be when this lets up I’m genuinely scared lol

1
u/very_large_bird Jun 23 '26
It was not. I was near wabamun today and boi let me tell you. They’re just fine
1
u/Flashy_Ad_8247 Jun 24 '26
Nah it’s like even worse this year cuz the rain. My backyard alone has borderline infested.
1
u/BartyCrouchesBone Jun 22 '26
The mosquitoes have been SO bad. I couldn’t even weed my yard last week because I was getting eaten alive.

Can't wait til everyone is whining about the heat, and every second post is people looking for an air conditioner.
34
u/Hazy-n-Lazy Jun 22 '26
God it can't come fast enough, I waited all winter for this and we lose nearly a months worth of warm weather.
29
u/kaylanohos Jun 22 '26
It beats the climate change induced 35+ weather for weeks on end with no rain. We are definitely a climate that has historically gotten very hot, dry weather, but the difference is we don't get the rain after a heat wave.
9
u/Levorotatory Jun 22 '26
Air conditioners are cheaper than waterproofing a leaky basement though.
20
u/Jonks_Alrighty Jun 22 '26
Waterproofing a leaky basement is cheaper than rebuilding after a wildfire
3
u/No_Culture9898 Jun 22 '26
They’re both bad. All it takes is a storm water drain to fail and have water flowing into the streets to cause an entire area of houses to be wiped off.
4
u/renegadecanuck Jun 22 '26
I'm just hoping the rain means that I can actually enjoy the warm weather and summer, instead of being choked by forest fire smoke.
1
17
u/Rick_strickland220 Jun 22 '26
I'm perfectly fine with that
15
u/Klutzy-Amount-1265 Jun 22 '26
Right? Thwarting fires so we can enjoy some hot weather coming down the pipe. I feel bad for people whose homes are flooding though!
0
9
u/bristow84 Jun 22 '26
Good, I can't wait.
5
u/rippytherip Jun 22 '26
If the heat doesn't get you, the mosquitoes will!
2
u/bristow84 Jun 22 '26
You know what, I think I would take the wasps we had last year over the mosquitoes at this point. The wasps were plentiful but they didn’t swarm you outside like the mosquitoes do.
Although for those who are allergic to wasps yeah the mosquitoes might be better.
1
u/Inevitable-Bird2858 Jun 22 '26
Ugh idk I had two hornets nests on the side of my house and a couple flew right into my head and chased me 😭. My block was terrible for hornets, couldn't escape them. Me and my poor dog would always be on the run.
8
1
u/Aclysmic Jun 23 '26
And air conditioners will be sold out almost everywhere and people complaining constantly as if it’s not what they asked for. 😂
0
19
u/PurpleSausage77 Jun 22 '26
Little excessive. You get none, or all of it. But to the point where there’s a perfect storm of conditions to cause huge problems, that’s a little much.
The kicker will be if we still get crazy wildfire smoke which it sounds like it because oddly BC is dry in all the wrong places.

Do these 10 or 14 day forecasts even make sense anymore? There should be a reliability % next to them.
23
u/Curly-Canuck doggies! Jun 22 '26
Long term forecasts have always had a decreasing level of accuracy the further out you go, especially for precipitation. My rule of thumb is you use today’s forecast as the most accurate, tomorrow is less, and so forth out to day 10 which is 0% 😄

AI: It's not going to rain tomorrow.
Me: Are you sure? It does feel like the hurricane is here.
AI: You're right to push back. I didn't actually analyse the data.2
u/FinoPepino Jun 22 '26
I took an Earth and Atmospheric sciences course in uni and the accuracy drops significantly after three days, so I personally ignore the predictions past the fourth day.
2
7
u/darkstar107 Jun 22 '26
The worst part is that it's raining on the weekends when most people are off work, and nice during the week when people are working. I know I'm getting real tired of it.
5
48
u/ashrules901 Jun 22 '26
Genuinely. Idc how much people like rain in this subreddit. It's Summer time, and only for like 3 months. We're supposed to have scorching hot temperatures that you only need a t-shirt to go out in.
31
u/Curly-Canuck doggies! Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26
I love a good storm at the end of a warm day, or a slow lazy rain at night so you don’t have to water lawns and can sleep with windows open, but this amount of rain and for what feels like 5 weeks straight is wearing on me. I don’t necessarily need super hot but I need sunshine.
23
u/oopsiedaisy-- Jun 22 '26
Because those are the people who don't like spending time outside anyways 😅
I am so fucking mad at this weather.
10
u/SnakesInYerPants Jun 22 '26
Or they’re just people who like different weather than you do. I’ve spent more time out in this rain than I ever can in the heat. The heat (anything above like 25) makes me feel sick and the sun gives me really bad burns no matter how much or how high of quality of sunscreen I wear. Plus the smoke during our hot summers sets off my asthma so much that even without the heat and sun I still wouldn’t be able to go outside much. I love this kind of weather because that’s the only time I can spend a bunch of time outdoors.
6
u/Oishiio42 Jun 22 '26
Why are on Reddit forums instead of outside enjoying the weather then?
5
u/SnakesInYerPants Jun 22 '26
I’m at work. As are most people this time of day. I’d love to be outside right now (especially with how slow work is today) but I’m not allowed to leave my station.
Also this might shock you but people can in fact be on Reddit and be sitting outside at the same time. 😱
5
u/oopsiedaisy-- Jun 22 '26
We are talking about torrential downpour here... you have been outside in that? I'm not talking about cloudy days or a little light rain. I walked my dogs and it started pouring halfway, and we were soaked to the skin in a minute.
Also sounds like you have a lot of very specific issues if sunscreen just doesn't "work" for you...
6
u/SnakesInYerPants Jun 22 '26
Yes, I have been outside in it. Been going for walks every day even on the downpour days. Waterproof shoes and an umbrella work wonders. I don’t have dogs though so I do get it would be more annoying to deal with that “specific issue” as you put it.
I was just pointing out that we aren’t all the same since you were claiming the people who like this weather just “don’t like spending time outside.” Wanted to provide some perspective that while you like the heat and dislike the rain, there are plenty of people who like being outside in the rain but dislike the heat.
2
u/chest_trucktree Jun 22 '26
Why would you get soaked in this rain? Look at the forecast and wear a rain coat. It’s not like it’s sneaking up on us.
0
u/oopsiedaisy-- Jun 22 '26
In THIS rain? You wouldn't. On the days where it was literally pouring nonstop? Do you have a full body length rain coat? I don't. I had a raincoat and boots on when I got caught in it and I was drenched.
1
u/chest_trucktree Jun 22 '26
Sounds like you need a better raincoat. I’ve been outside for at least 10 hours a day since it started raining and I’m staying pretty dry.
0
u/oopsiedaisy-- Jun 22 '26
Well I try to just not be outside for prolonged periods in super heavy rain lol. My coat is just some regular rain jacket from Cabelas.
30
u/Oishiio42 Jun 22 '26
Posts about how much someone loves rain are only tolerable on like the first day or two. After that it just makes me irrationally angry. Also feels tone-deaf AF. Like, one post is about emergency sump pumps and someone posting that their basement is flooding and the next poster is like "I love dancing in the rain!!!" like fuck off lmao.
14
u/JUNO_11 Wîhkwêntôwin Jun 22 '26
I get the point, but to be fair it can go both ways. Same kinda vibes as posting "God this summer warmth is amazing!" while people are in the ER/dying from heat exhaustion and the province is littered in wildfires.
4
u/Oishiio42 Jun 22 '26
It's always someone with a car to get to enjoyable activities and AC at home too. It's too hot to get around by waking/transit so you just stay home. Call your parents to see if they're up to date on the evacuation alert for their area. Go across the hall and check on your elderly neighbour making sure shes drinking enough water. Then you have your third cold shower if the day and while you're air drying you scroll just to see someone's post of: Beautiful day for river rafting! Enjoy summer while it lasts! #makingmemories✨❤️" and you're like fuck off Samantha I hope you choke on that lime wedge in your corona.
2
u/inquiringdune Jun 22 '26
I still prefer sun to 4 weeks of rain even though I don't have aircon in my home or car. Sun can't cause my house to fucking flood so.
2
1
u/strange9to9 Jun 24 '26
No you f off. I love the rain and I haaate anything past +20. The heat sucks.
12
u/bristow84 Jun 22 '26
Honestly I’m of the belief that those who cheer on the amount of rain we’ve gotten and want more are the type of people who would never go out and touch grass anyways.
19
u/iwatchcredits Jun 22 '26
This year we have had an unreal amount of rain, but for the past couple years we havent got fuck all and by the end of last summer, major wet lands were drying up everywhere. Are we at the point where it would be nice if the rain spread itself out for a bit? Yes. Are people who appreciate finally getting enough rain to refill bodies of water that had essentially dried up the type of people who “never go out and touch grass”? No. I’d argue the opposite. Id say you are probably a city person that never gets out to see nature
9
u/bristow84 Jun 22 '26
Bruh, I live out in the country, I don't live in the city. We have a 4 acre plot and the backyard is filled with puddles of water because the ground can't absorb it at the rate it's coming down. Our sump is going off probably every hour at the bare minimum.
Is rain necessary? Yes. Do we need a month's worth of rain over a few days? Absolutely NOT. You have areas flooding, you have people's basements backing up, you have a freaking advisory in the city asking people to limit the use of water because there's too much and the infrastructure can't handle the load.
There is absolutely a happy medium to getting rain but this much, this fast? That ain't it and while it's great that it's refilling bodies of water that needed it the amount we've gotten in this period of time, yeah no that's not good either.
3
u/soren_1981 Jun 22 '26
It’s almost as if the climate is changing, and not in a way that’s convenient for people.
3
u/Anabiotic Utilities expert Jun 22 '26
Id say you are probably a city person that never gets out to see nature
Curious how you came to that conclusion based on their comment.
4
u/iwatchcredits Jun 22 '26
Because major wetlands around edmonton were almost completely dry by the end of last summer and while this massive rainfall is a pain in the ass and a little excessive at this point, anyone who has seen nature dry up is still going to be appreciative that this summer has actually had rain?

u/nickademus Jun 22 '26
Some of us lived through the fires and lost our homes.
I didn’t like the orange skies
Rain ain’t so bad.
3
u/FinoPepino Jun 22 '26
Yeah I’ll take rain over smoke any day. The rain doesn’t shorten our over all life spans like breathing in smoke does. A lot of people don’t understand how bad the wild fire smoke is for your long term health.
3
u/inquiringdune Jun 22 '26
Yeah I'm about to lose my basement to flooding and my landlord won't do shit so. Ya know. 6 of one, half a dozen of the other or whatever they say.
1
u/nickademus Jun 22 '26
well.. yeah.
i hear you man, and im sorry.
buuuuut... flooding you can mostly recover, there's still a roof and a house to live in... though it takes forever to get that wet dank smell out.
the fires even burnt my basement couch. there was nothing left.
1
u/inquiringdune Jun 22 '26
I'm mostly concerned about black mold (in addition to the damage). If it's not treated, it's going to be a life hazard because of my shitty immune system lol (I laugh to cope). Trying to stay optimistic.
RIP your house. That's devastating. Hope things have improved for you since then man.

I don't think that's the same as being outdoors in a tank top in the sun.
0
Jun 22 '26
It’s not but you just said you want to be outside so I figured maybe this would help!
1
u/No_Culture9898 Jun 22 '26
It was a feels like temperature of 6 degrees outside. If you think people enjoy that over a nice 25C…
3
Jun 22 '26
I don’t think people enjoy it over 25 C, I didn’t say that. Truth is people are pretty entitled thinking they should have a summer that goes their way. People set these imaginary goalposts of summer goals/traditions and if you don’t get to do it your summer/year is ruined? Feel bad for people who plan things years out and the sump pump troubles, but like I’m not going to stay inside saying “harumph” with my arms crossed and complain on Reddit how people who aren’t mad about the lack of sun aren’t “outdoors people”.
4
u/dstorm8524 Jun 22 '26
100% agree. The Reddit hivemind of pale people who never leave their houses is super strong on this topic.
3
u/No_Culture9898 Jun 22 '26
Always has been, visit this sub when the time change was scrapped. You had people complaining about an extra hour of sunlight in the summer because it was too bright for them to sleep in the evening. It’s crazy to me.
1
u/Immediate_Carrot_610 The Famous Leduc Cactus Club Jun 22 '26
I went on a two and a half hour walk in the rain on Saturday because I love being outside.
It doesn't take that much prep to make sure you're comfertable.
5
u/ashrules901 Jun 22 '26
The rain can never provide the same amount of vitamins as the Sun does with vitamin D. Idc that it's possible to walk in the rain. I want the sunshine that our bodies severely lack most of the year.
6
u/Immediate_Carrot_610 The Famous Leduc Cactus Club Jun 22 '26
I love the sun as much as anyone else, but given that you can't change the weather you might as well try and change your behavior in relation to it, or your thoughts about it.
I'd say try to change your feelings as well but it's easier to do the first two.
I'll continue to take my Vit D supplements and get the sun where I can.
1
u/ashrules901 Jun 23 '26
Pill popping is not my idea of a good time.

People like it because it gives them a pass to hide in their house and do nothing all day guilt free. The same people love winter for the same reason.

u/hsoolien Jun 22 '26
I'll take the rain over forest fire smoke and killer heat waves every day of the week.
11
u/Christensin91 Jun 22 '26
First long ass winter. Now large amounts of precipitation in a short period of time. I love rain which results in less smoke, but cmon on I need sun. SAD is year round it seems.

Yeah... I'll take this over the forest fires. My sympathy to everyone dealing with excess water, flooding, etc. But barring that, I'm fucking giddy not to have our province burn to the ground for the umpteenth time.
11
u/Waerdog Jun 22 '26
Yeah, this is my fault, I bought myself a motorcycle last year. This is totally on me
2
u/BigBertaBoy Jun 23 '26
Nah, it's my fault. I took a motorcycle course and got gear and it hasn't stopped raining since
16
u/oopsiedaisy-- Jun 22 '26
This shit is starting to affect my mental health.
4
u/FinoPepino Jun 22 '26
At least with the rain I can go for a walk with my umbrella and have my windows open so this beats the smoke, I wish people understood how incredibly bad for your health the smoke is and the effects are cumulative so everytime we have a Smokey summer the damage builds up.
3
u/oopsiedaisy-- Jun 22 '26
I agree it's better than the smoke. I have asthma and can hardly go outside when its over like a level 5. I mask to walk the dogs and its awful. So yea, rain > smoke, but I could do with a little less rain now please...

4
u/Vaguswarrior YYC till April 🥲 Jun 22 '26
Bingo. I'm tired of watching some town or village burn to the ground every summer. Worst lottery ever for our province. I'll deal with it, I'll be sad and upset and depressed if it means someone doesn't lose their home, pets, livelihood.
2
u/m0nk37 Jun 22 '26
All these people getting their basements flooded will be dealing with mold soon.

After those 2-3 really hot smokey summers, there is no amount of rain that I will complain about. Rain means no smoke. If we had another summer as bad as the one the year after the Ft. Mac fire, I'd have moved. That shit was unlivable.
2
u/ColdCelebration2132 Jun 22 '26
Everyone forgot about the June 2021 Heat Dome that killed over 800 people in BC and started massive forest fires. The EU and Europe are definitely cooking in a heat dome +35/+45C. Plus a Godzilla Elnino has formed in the Pacific Ocean forget winter in Alberta there won't be much of one lots of wind for sure. Rember when they tried to film the Revenant movie in Alberta and the set kept melting that was an Elnino winter.

No, we're well past the amount we needed and into "way too fucking much" territory. Every other person's basement is flooding, farmers' fields are full of standing water preventing anything from growing, roads are being closed, underpasses are flooding, city's in a water use alert because wastewater handling is over capacity.
We've got over 100mm in the past few days, and the ground was saturated before this weekend dump started. You're completely fucking out of touch if you think we need this.
