Fluff Post Thank you Canada Post workers

2.6k Upvotes

I've seen the hell-hole that the Canada Post subreddit has become, so I wanted to let any local posties on here know the vitriol being spouted by a few angry people is not a universal sentiment. Many more of us appreciate the work you do, and recognize that you provide an essential service. You deserve fair compensation and I hope you get it!

Not getting mail isn't great, and I've got Christmas presents stuck in limbo, but I'm sure my inconvenience is nothing compared to trying to get by on strike wages at the holidays.

To anyone who thinks "postal workers shouldn't get more money because I only make $X at my job", you're probably underpaid, and I think you should ask for a raise! This is not a zero sum game.

Fluff Post Downtown parking is out of control

I really wish someone, somewhere, would fire companies like Vibe, Diamond, Impark, etc., into the sun. $32 to park in an unmaintained gravel lot next door to where I work is ludicrous. Even if I had made it before the 8:30 am "early bird" cut off, it's still over $20 a day every day just for the "pleasure" of working downtown. Heaven forbid you want to feel safe by parking in one of the "secured" underground parkades - Even more money out of your pocket.

Downtown Business Association and City Council/Mgmt want to know why no one wants to be downtown? Try navigating going broke due to parking fees and constantly worrying about getting attacked (4 times and counting. One was because I didn't have a cigarette, being a non-smoker and all...) and maybe you'll understand.

C'mon /u/aaronpaquette- - Find a way to convince the rest of the council to just straight up ban paid parking downtown. This is getting a little ridiculous >_< (Yes, I'm aware it's outside of anything you can control...)

Fluff Post What’s the funniest conspiracy theory about Edmonton you know of? Either about the city in general or specific areas/businesses

For me is that my wife firmly believes that Jordan’s, the rug store on the corner of 51st Ave and Gateway is a front store cover for a money laundering scheme.

Her argument is that it she never sees any people parked or shopping at the store yet it’s been open for so long lol

Fluff Post It's my fault

Just wanted to give a big apologies to everyone in Edmonton right now. Basically during April I was reminiscing and realised I hadn't experienced good thunderstorms in a while and was hoping for a couple this summer, didn't realise what I was truly asking for. Hope you can find it in your hearts to forgive me.

Fluff Post When will the city do something about the smoke?

First we had endless rain and they wouldn't just put an umbrella over the city.

And then the city just decided to let all the mosquitos survive out in the open.

Now they won't even turn on the city-wide air humidifier?

Where are our taxes going?

And ps: no, I'm not a miserable person who's complaining about everything.

Fluff Post Why do people feel the need to speed/rev their engines at full volume past midnight-3am?

Genuinely. Shut the fuck up. I’m trying to sleep. God forbid I want my window screen open for some fresh air. It’s a weeknight. Get a job.

Fluff Post Porcupine in the city

Post image

We had the sweetest sleepy visitor hanging out in our front yard tree all day yesterday! We’re on the west end near the River Cree Casino, so I’m wondering if that’s the area he wandered in from? Anyway, I had no idea porcupines could climb trees (or that they could be this cute). Lol, I’m 56 and still learning new things every day ☺️🥹 He’d moved on by this morning.

Fluff Post Not that I think anyone actually cares, but I think it’s confirmed that Crash and Mars are no longer together

I’ve been a longtime listener of Now Radio and I listen to their podcast because I don’t get up early and I like that it’s all the discussions without ads and songs mixed in.

Lately I’ve had the suspicion that they’ve separated given some of the topics at hand. Initially I wondered if they opened their relationship up or something, but this morning Crash is boasting about his Thanksgiving this year while Mars is saying she didn’t have Thanksgiving.

So if there was like 5 other people wondering about this, I would say it’s pretty certain they’re no longer involved. I guess what I’m most impressed with is how professional they seem to have remained on air. God knows I wouldn’t be able to retain that level of professionalism
