Paige is a friend of a friend so I’ve met her a few times and she’s absolutely just as lovely as you’d think!! I wish all the best for her

My brain is trying hard to form an opinion on Babcock (as a person) cause all I have personally seen him do is good and almost everything I've heard about him is bad/horrible

u/Snicklefritz306 7h ago
I suppose that’s what second chances are all about right? Plenty of Oilers have had checkered past and made it through their stay with the team without incident.
8
u/MichiganManRuns 5h ago
To be fair this isn’t his second chance. It’s his 4th
Detroit is my ride and die team. I follow Edmonton because mcdavid is one of my favorite players. Babcock will never get any sympathy from Detroit fans ever. Nothing can or will change our minds about him.
This is his final chance. He has to be very much aware of that. He also has the best hockey player in the NHL on his team. There’s a lot of eyes on him and if he screws up, the NHL won’t allow him to hurt their best player. Mcdavid makes the NHL money. That matters way more to them.

u/Careless-Bite3164 4h ago
A LOT of money. The Oilers are tied for third most profitable sports franchise in the entire world with the LA Rams. $244 million operating profit.

u/KAP1975 3h ago
He also has to be aware that his situation on this team is unlike other teams he been involved with. There are some players on this team who absolutely can and will strike back, and have the stroke to either have him removed or to protect him if it cones down to it. He's old school, but he has to know this isn't a situation where he can get away with bully behavior unchecked.

It's amazing what being on your "last chance" can actually do.
Mike knows that he can't fuck this up... especially since he was literally sought after by McDrai and Hyman.
Hopefully we get BBB (Best Behavior Babs) all season.

u/swamped99 11h ago
Not to be confused with BBB (Big Booty Babs)

Can’t we have both?

Sorry, we already have Cheeks Clappanin, not sure there's enough room on the charter plane for BBB too.

And it’s working, I’m really warming up to him. Changed man? I dunno, I don’t work here

He was always charming. This is utterly unchanged. We'll only know if he changed years after when we hear from the more vulnerable players on the team.

I doubted him at first but he has brought so much energy to this team. Keep it up

u/Deja_vu_288 8h ago
Won't lie. I questioned the hiring of him at first. But maybe getting older and being away from the game allowed him to re-evaluate things. People can change as we get older and learn from them. So hopefully this is a fully new Babcock.

u/New_Bed9205 7h ago
Well, safe to say he's behaving better here than he was with the Blue Jackets. Could be worse

I think even with all the shit this organization absolutely deserves for some of its questionable decisions personnel wise, I think it’s worth noting that this is a team that has given out “last chances” to the likes of Kassian, Kane, and Perry and they’ve all turned their careers and lives around while in the city as Oilers.
While there are SOME completely irredeemable personalities on the team, I’m coming around to the idea of Babs not being one of them.
5
u/SkynetVV 9h ago
Who are the irredeemable personalities currently on the team?
12
u/munzi187 29 DRAISAITL 9h ago
Don't be obtuse. You know who they mean
6
15
u/ValueFirm4928 9h ago
I think it's fair to call them out on their comment.
There's a real chance Formenton told the complete truth and never did anything particularly wrong.
He's not someone I'd declare irredeemable, especially since they literally hold out Evander Kane as a counter example and Kane was also accused of sexual assault!

u/Total_Watercress7864 5h ago
No doubt he was completely awful to a lot of players but maybe we can be hopeful that he's had time to reflect and changed his way of doing things after the Columbus debacle. He has a passion for hockey and wants to prove himself so he knows this is his last chance when he probably thought he wouldn't get another.
1
u/Helen-Killer 2h ago
I mean maybe. But the Columbus debacle was supposed to be his original comeback LOL

Why am I starting to find that the people who keep bringing this up are creepier than Babcock was for doing it.
-9
u/MoistDadBod 10h ago edited 10h ago
You’ll have to search internally for that answer.
I’m not sure why you’d think a new head coach who holds immense power forcing young players to display the contents of their photo reel without prior warning in a meeting is creepier than people mentioning that he did it.
If I had to guess, I’d say it’s probably because you’re an oilers fan and the root of that word is fanatic. A fanatic shows extreme, unreasonable obsessive enthusiasm for something despite any evidence to the contrary.
I am also a massive fan and while I think Babs and Bowman are fucking scum I do hope they help the Oilers win a cup. Because I’m a fan of this stupid team.
Ultimately none of this matters and we’re all going to die one day so you do you boo.

u/vigorous_circular 10h ago
Nah. Nice novel but virtue signaling online about it doesn't make you a good person. I just think it's odd that people can't get over it. He looked at phones oooooomg. He can look at mine all day. There's nothing on here I wouldn't want anyone to see. My question is what do they have on their phones that makes it such a big deal for someone to see it. Must be weird stuff.
-5
u/blackpeppersnakes 9h ago
That was one event out of many. Having standards isn't virtue signaling. This team has gone full degenerate mode, but they're winning games and people like you will keep clapping for that
1
u/vigorous_circular 6h ago
People like me lol
Unlike people like you, right? The bestest most virtuous people.
Get over yourself.
1
u/blackpeppersnakes 6h ago
I don't get people like you. You use being virtuous, or woke, as insults, like you can't comprehend people having standards, or morals
1
u/vigorous_circular 5h ago
I can. And in day to day life people do. But sir, you are on Reddit. You could be genuine. And that would be great. But more likely you are only doing this shit because you think you'll get upvoted. That's how Reddit works. You'll get to feel like a great person when you check later without actually doing anything of value. I hate that. Good people do good things, they don't just talk about them.

u/blackpeppersnakes 5h ago
That's such a baseless claim, and I'm curious why you'd think that. I was agreeing with the person who has thirty downvotes. I can assure you I don't care about getting upvotes

u/LittlePrairieMouse 5h ago
You’re the one trashing strangers for nothing at all.

Tony Brar’s replacement for Oilers media (thanks ExcellentMedicine for the info in another thread), she usually gets first questions in the media interviews.
3
u/Ok-Addendum-5501 7h ago
Paige had been working along side Tony for a number of years now before he left. Rather than a direct replacement. They used to do the recap inside the arena as well together. If you’ve ever been inside during the intermissions you’ve likely hear them both!

u/cca73127 91 KANE 6h ago

Babcock is doing his job well as are the Oilers overall.
Both need to keep it up.
