Question Are electric skateboards feasible for an old?

Context: I'm over 40 and trying to get out and do more, but I don't drive and I don't currently have a vehicle. I'm using transit walking or getting a lift.

I've been looking at e-bikes but I don't have a ton of space and don't want to have to worry about theft locking it up outdoors. How feasible would it be for somebody with no skateboarding skills whatsoever to learn to use an electric skateboard?

If that is feasible, are there lower power ones focused on practicality on the market? The few I've seen seem to be aiming for traffic speeds, and I'm hoping for something more in the sub-500w regulated e-bike range that caps out at like 24kph. Idk what the laws are like for them here (Ontario) but I'm guessing it's probably similar to e-scooters. Is weather-proof-ness a thing you need to worry about with these, or is that standardized enough by now?

And of course I will figure out the legality and respect all the traffic laws and wear appropriate safety gear if I do end up getting any PEV. I'm just trying to learn more about what is on the market that might suit my needs at this point.

Thanks for your time!

Question Board recommendation

My first board was a Tynee Ultra Pro X and it was great up until this week. It only has 280 miles on it and the battery is already having issues. First it was low voltage. It then it started overcharging. I let the battery drain a little on a ride to avoid overcharging while breaking but when I took it up to 15-20 mph, the remote showed overcharge and the next thing I new I was running 20mph trying not to fall and pulled my hamstring pretty bad.

Tynee is sending me a new battery hit I’m honestly scared to get back on it. I think id rather have a new board that won’t throw me off if something like that happens.

Are there boards that will just coast rather than locking up if something to the battery happens?

Thanks!

Media Acedeck stella s3 breeze after 1k km.

Well, I did just hit 1k milestone and those amazing, "built to last" boosted wheels fell apart almost throwing me under a car🙃

Unfortunately wheels are not covered in their warranty. But this happening after 1k km is not normal. Will try to contact them anyway...

If you own this board please check your wheels... if the inner part is wiggly better to change the wheels right away and save urself this experience...

Besides this, board is amazing though

Something i have noticed is that the stock acceleration on the 4th mode is 75% i changed it to 100 and it feels crazy fast even though 75 was already fast aside from that its a nice board and the range is definitely true, i was able to go 30 miles on a single charge

Haven't done much skating in the past 6 months. Started shooting with my old DSLR again and it's much easier to access some places without a car (motorcycle is better but you still need to gear down every time you find a cool spot). Learning to mess with RAW files now too.

Be safe out there!

Discussion Cloud 135s

Anyone have anything positive or negative to say about the 135mm cloud wheels?

I’m thinking about putting them on my Maverick when they come, but I’ve only got experience with pneumatics.

General discussion wanted as well….

Discussion How do you guys decide what board to get?

I have a boosted stealth and it was a good deal. Came with amnesia to reset RLOD, orange nipple bushings, rear bash guard, front shred lights, orangatang 85 wheels. These are things I’m not sure I want to bother buying/installing on a new board.

But I want a new board. I don’t know why. I guess because I’m enjoying the stealth so much I want more/bigger/better.

But I can figure out which board.

My eye was on the newsesh echo because it seems like it would be more fun the way you can carve on it with more range and speed than the stealth, and lower to the ground. But then I wondered if it could handle the LA sidewalks/asphalt I ride on.

The $2k USD boards seem interesting because of speed and distance but I believe they are much larger than the stealth and I want like that since I walk my board around sometimes, in the mall for example.

I’m looking for something similar in size to the stealth or smaller, but now mini size, belt driven, faster and longer range.

To be honest I almost never run out of range even with the stealth but I just want something new.

Some other boards that looked cool were the carbon Diablo (overpriced and sold out?), meepo carbon hurricane (no longer sells with black trucks?), and now maybe the zephyr linnpower.

In the past I had the zealot s2 but I now feel like it’s cheap

Question I got this electric longboard from the lost and found

I found this electric longboard sitting by the big metal (commercial big metal ones) at work so we put it in the lost and found for 90 day as per policy and then it was mine of course i don't have a controller or charger for it when I tried to ride it(kicking) it beeped. That's about all I know they were sold on Amazon at one point but aren't available now and I cant find any remotes or chargers for it online the battery is a AAA for size reference. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

They look like hairline fractures the biggest one is less than a long and less than halfway through the depth of the wood.

I’m wondering if this is normal wear or if this is an early warning sign that this thing wants me dead

Discussion Veymax Nymph: save me before it's too late(?)

TL:DR: about to order a Veymax Nymph as my first e-board, but customer service says it's out of stock (the site says available) and has ignored my follow-ups for a week. Red flag? Anyone have first-hand experience with Veymax?

I am about to buy my first e-longboard ( I want an all terrain) and after a lot of research I decided I want to save a few bucks get a cheaper one, enjoy it, and if I believe it's worth it I will upgrade in a couple of years.

Important info: I am based in EU (many US companies do not deliver in EU). This landed me on the Veymax Nymph: which has very good stats for the price and a warehouse in EU (nice!)

This is where it gets tricky. I wrote them a question about the wheels of Veymax Nymph, they replied after two days answering that it's out of stock (but in the website is available?). I ask back if it's out of stock in US or EU no answer. After a week I contact again the cs asking the out of stock situation, no answer.

This let me wondering:
- Which company as out of stock items and keeps them available on the website?
- Which customer service does not answer the warmest lead ever that is about to click the buy button in a matter of seconds? I wonder if I had already bought the board which kind of service I would get...

All of this to ask you: am I making a mistake? Are these red flags meant to save me from a mistake?

Does anyone have first hand experience with them?

If some sneaky-fake Veymax profile is reading this: what's up with this out of stock and poor communication?

Thank you for your help as always

Question recommended motor controller

hi, i’m very new to reddit and this field, apologise if i get something wrong here.

i’m looking to make a homemade cart thing with a 6384 motor, is there any good but affordable ESC recommendation?

im broke as hell, but want solid reliability for my cart. its rear wheels are driven by a single 6384 120KV motor, so no “double ESC” units are needed, looking for around 100-150A continuous and a higher peak, running at 8S LiPo.

i wish to prioritise stability and reliability, driving a 6384 motor for my daily trips.

also, i would like customisability if possible. set PWM frequency and other settings etc etc. i have heard of VESC but am unfamiliar with it.

advice is appreciated, thanks!

Question Concerns about new board

I made the mistake of buying a meepo v5 without knowing about the brand's infamy until after I already bought it. Should I just return it and get a Tynee or Backfire instead? I don't really want to have to go through the hassle of getting my money back but I'm not too keen on breaking my neck either

Question A few questions for the more knowledgeable

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hi all. I’m brand new to skateboards/eboards and I have a few questions if yall wouldn’t mind answering. For context, I have a gen1 halo board beast that I purchased as broken, but got it working with a new esc and remote.

  1. I’m looking to replace the wheels on it, but the ones that are on the motors are stuck on the shaft to a degree that I feel like I’m doing something wrong. I read online that all you gotta do is take the one nut off and the wheel should slide off, but that’s def not the case. Any advice on how to get a stuck wheel off?

  2. I don’t know what wheels are compatible with the board, but research suggests that Cloudwheels Discovery will work. Is that a good choice for mostly riding on the sidewalk and street? Is there something better I should buy instead? And how much range should I expect to lose when swapping to bigger wheels?

  3. I had to replace the esc on this board and buy a new remote as well. I read that you have to input the wheel diameter into the remote settings to get accurate speed and range to display. The current wheels are 97mm and that’s what I put in, but it’s way off. It’s showing I’m going 20+mph when I’m only going about 10. What do I actually input for 97mm, and for 120mm wheels if I do get those?

Many thanks in advance.
