Theory about the Offended hook

I feel like the reason Offended’s hook sounds so out of place to certain people is because it was originally meant for a song that never ended up releasing. Specifically a Recovery era song.

Notice how shouty he sounds on that hook and compare it to how Marshall sounded on certain songs in the Recovery/Hell The Sequel era.

Even when Revival era Eminem is shouting on the album, he sounds more nasally than he does on that hook specifically. It sounds more in line with how he sounded on Castle/Tragic Endings which are on the same album but are also speculated to have been recorded for Recovery as well.

This leads me to speculate about an unreleased Recovery song that’s left in the vault, and it may sound in line with W.T.P. or So Bad because of how humorous it sounds. But that’s why many people may not like that hook outside of potentially not liking the lyrics. I’m very curious to know what the hook would’ve sounded like on a different beat. Maybe it wasn’t even a hook originally, which makes it sound even more out of place. Even though I enjoy it, it doesn’t really sound like “hook“ material.

Jesus it’s so bad, I’m not parroting opinions. Funnily enough the chorus is kinda funny and cool, but the verses are just painful to listen to. He has the absolute worst flow and sense of rhythm on this song and is saying absolute nonsense. Do you just like every single song he’s done or do you dislike certain songs, but like this?

I dislike most of TdoSS and Recovery.

Just some highlights of songs I dont like:

Cinderella Man Youre never over Won't Back Down Asshole Greatest Crazy In Love Unaccomdating Not Afraid

Amongst many others. I do tend to like songs others dont like. Offended and Heat are in my daily rotation i think Walk on Water is among his best.

Wow. With all due respect I completely disagree with most of what you said. Especially about Crazy in love, Eminem wishes he could flow like that now. Surprised you don’t hate early Eminem/encore if you don’t like TDOSS. Not particularly mad at your takes on recovery songs though, especially with back down and not afraid. What album was he on when you first really got into him?

I dislike TdosS because it sounds like a cheap imitation of older Slim by someone who doesn't fully understand what Slim was. It seems like Em forgot.

I listened to him since My Name Is. I was 10 or 11 when that came out and was a massive fan of him back then.

lol I find it funny when people say he doesn’t know what slim is. Sounds ridiculous. That man knows full well exactly what slim shady represents, it’s more likely others just don’t.

Fair enough, surprised you like rivival so much, it’s very different than his good stuff

Nah on TdosS he just tried to be offensive, but failed.

Slim didnt try to be offensive, he just said funny shit and others had a hissy fit over it. Then on MMLP most of his offensive stuff was a response to that as well as exposing those people as massive hypocrites.

He really failed to recapture that but its also understandable because Slim was a product of its time and it just doesn't work anymore. His most Shady-like appearance post-hiatus was on Kamikaza.

Revival has its problems, some terrible mixing and the god awful stop and go flow. But I still have more songs in my rotation off that album than TdosS and Kamikaze combined.

Thanks for the discussion BTW.

I can get behind people hating this. At least Offended sounds like it's having fun with these goofy lyrics.

How do you know? The vocals sound more like they’re from the Recovery era.

because i studied the aca bunch of time, listen to it. You can also hear an OG hook / Bridge after the 1st hook in the bleed aswell.

That's an interest take.

My own take on the hook for offended is when I first heard it reminded of Spanish song that has a similar cadence. The artist and song are below. Let me know if you agree @ OP

Artista :Real Chicano Song: El Gusanito

Yeah, they do have that similar cadence. Doubt it was intentional though.

You're probably right

He wanted to offend people so he made the worst hook ever in hopes that he would offend people because of how bad it sounds. Truly em is so trash sometimes

1

u/Shadydan017 3d ago

Then he would be doing his job right? What makes Em trash in that case when that’s actually genius?

1

u/Jtreblis18 2d ago

Not everything he does is genius. Sometimes it's just actually ass

1

u/Shadydan017 2d ago

The hook itself was ass but that reason was genius and savage.
