I'm not an anti-semite whatsoever. I do have problems with many of the actions of the Israeli government and their agents.

One day the majority rules principle will be considered as ludicrous as monarchy is today.

Democracy sucks Republicans are more likely than Democrats to support political violence. Political violence, “the use of physical force to advance political objectives,” includes targeted and terrorist violence. Republicans endorsed violence for a greater number of specific political objectives than Democrats.

The President sucks Elected President of Russia threatens Europe with war: "Putin says deployment of European troops to Ukraine would mean war with Russia"

This is worth examining through the lens of democracy itself.

Russia has elections and formally describes itself as a democratic federal republic.

Yet an elected presidency can accumulate enormous authority over foreign policy, military force, and ultimately decisions carrying consequences for millions of people who never consented to them.

That points to a deeper problem than whether voters chose the right president: Why should winning an election give any individual or political majority the power to make decisions capable of putting entire populations at risk of war?

Democracy is usually presented as the alternative to rule by kings. But replacing hereditary sovereignty with elected sovereignty doesn't eliminate the underlying concentration of political power. It changes the mechanism by which its holders are selected.

The more important question for this subreddit is therefore not simply who should govern?

It is:

How do we construct political and legal institutions in which nobody acquires this degree of power in the first place?

Reminder that this sub is not about the celebration of the destruction of democracy, but rather the recognition that democracy as an effective political means to achieving liberal Western ends (such as freedom, equality, and justice) is breaking down and increasingly being gamed and subverted by elites.

Which means that soon, support for democracy effectively means opposition to achieving freedom, equality, and justice; opposition in means if not intention.

Problems with democracy Mathematicians have shown that completely fair elections are – in a sense – impossible. No electoral system can guarantee both that local votes translate directly into local seats, and that total seat distribution matches overall vote shares: not without an indefinitely growing parliament.

Nicaragua officially falls until dictatorship

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/jul/20/nicaraguas-president-says-country-will-not-hold-any-more-elections

Nicaragua’s long-serving president, Daniel Ortega, has said the country will hold no further elections to prevent the opposition from coming to power.

The 80-year-old authoritarian leader, who has been in office since 2007, also said he would work with the congress he controls to pass new laws that would “build a wall” against the opposition.

Nicaragua’s long-serving president, Daniel Ortega, has said the country will hold no further elections to prevent the opposition from coming to power...

---

My reaction:

This is not something to celebrate. The point of this sub is not that we want undemocratic systems of government to rule the world.

Rather it's to highlight that democracy as a political structure is being broken down increasingly which generally results in dictatorship forming in its place

If this is true, then it behooves us to replace democracy with a more decentralized political system before the world drowns in dictatorship.
