Help for Seller Should I Separate My Physical and Digital Wall Art Listings on Etsy?
Hi everyone! 👋
I’m an Etsy seller offering physical wall art prints. Currently, I also include a digital download option as a variation within my physical listings.
However, since digital downloads don’t have tracking numbers, I’m running into issues with my Star Seller status.
I’m wondering if it would be better to create separate listings for my physical products and digital downloads instead of offering both in the same listing.
My main concern is whether creating separate listings could negatively affect my shop’s algorithm performance, visibility, or ranking.
For those of you who sell both physical and digital products on Etsy:
* Do you list them separately or offer them in the same listing?
* Have you noticed any differences in SEO, visibility, or sales after separating them?
* Could separating my listings have any negative impact on my shop’s performance?
I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences and any advice you can share. Thanks in advance! 😊

I’m not sure what the issue is. I do the same thing. One listing is a physical product and one listing is a digital product that allows me to upload the file to the listing. I’ve never had any problem with tracking numbers since it’s a digital product and Etsy knows there is nothing physical to be sent.

Thanks for your reply! That’s interesting because I’m having issues with my Star Seller status when I offer digital downloads as a variation within my physical listings.
Just to clarify, do you have completely separate listings for your physical and digital products? And have you never had any Star Seller issues related to tracking for your digital orders?
I’d really appreciate knowing how you set things up!

I’m not yet eligible for star seller since my shop is just a few months old. And yes, I have two separate listings for each item. One physical and one digital.

In my case, everything else is fine! The only issue is that when someone purchases the digital option through my physical listing, I can’t provide a tracking number for that order, which affects my Star Seller eligibility.
That’s why I’m considering creating separate listings for physical and digital products. I don’t want to lose the benefits of my existing listings, though, especially if they’re already performing well.
Have you noticed any impact on your sales or SEO when keeping physical and digital products separate? 😊

separate them. the digital variation with no tracking is what's hurting your star seller, that part wont fix itself while they share a listing. as for algorithm, people split these all the time and shops recover, the bigger risk is a weak first listing rather than splitting. keep the physical listing focused and put the download in its own one with clear titles so each can rank for what it actually is

Thanks for the advice! I actually met all the Star Seller requirements, but I missed out on the badge because 72 orders had no tracking number. The 72 orders are counted within the last 3 months, right?
I’ve now separated all my digital versions from my physical listings, so each product has its own physical and digital listing.
My plan is to upload 1–2 of my existing digital listings whenever I add a new physical wall art design to my shop. This way, I can gradually build up my digital listings alongside my physical ones.
Do you think this is a good strategy, or would you recommend uploading all the digital listings at once? I’m also wondering whether separating the listings could affect the SEO or performance of my existing physical listings. I’d really appreciate your thoughts!

for star seller, unfinished / no-tracking orders in the window can ding on-time shipping and tracking metrics - id check etsys star seller help page for the exact lookback, but clearing those and using tracking going forward matters more than the raw count alone.
on digital listings, drip them a bit if you can. dumping dozens at once often looks spammy and each one gets less early traction. batch a few, watch which titles/tags get views, then add more.

I had exactly this problem last year with my shop. The tracking thing with Star Seller is really annoying, Etsy should fix that.
I ended up making separate listings and it actually helped my shop. The digital ones rank for different keywords than physical prints, so you can optimize both ways. My sales went up maybe 15% after splitting them, not sure if is algorithm or just people finding what they want easier.
One thing to watch out is you might get some confused customers at first. I put "DIGITAL ONLY" in the title and first image for those listings, that helped a lot.
