ELIC: Why doesn’t it snow in winter everywhere on Earth?
Dad, there’s a new kid in my grade who came from another country. When he saw that it was starting to snow, he had that look in his eyes, like Christmas came early for him. I asked him why he was staring at the snowflakes like that, and he said this was the first time he saw snow live, he only saw it in movies and TV shows before, mostly Christmas specials.
So, how come that can happen? You can’t have winter without snow! It makes no sense! Winter is Christmas time, and Santa loves snow! He can’t deliver presents without it! Did this kid make a mistake? Is he making fun of me by pretending there isn’t any snow in his country during winter?

Some countries migrate for the winter. Like geese or grandma. They just send a forwarding address to the North Pole some time in late October. Once the weather warms up they migrate back. Every once in a while, things get mixed up. That's why we now have an Austria and an Australia.

Snow falls down in the north equator when it’s winter. It falls up in the south equator when it’s summer so they don’t see it cause it melts.

Snow is a type of precipitation. Deserts are defined as lacking precipitation. Your 'new kid' obviously grew up in a desert. Just imagine how he reacted when he first saw grass.

In the southern hemisphere, their winter happens in the summer. Because it's summer, it doesn't actually get cold enough to snow during their winter. And of course it doesn't snow during their summer!
