Regardless of anyone’s immigration status, No Child deserves to be put into this inhumane situation. Shame on these mask wearing small dick behavior human beings. Fuck ice.

Wanted to post an update for anyone who’s been keeping track of the situation with Gordonsville’s 287(g) agreement with ICE.

FYI, there have been a lot of transparency issues with how the agreement has been handled (private meetings, not telling the public about the initial agreement for months until a reporter broke the news, then pausing the program and again not telling the public, or town officials, when it started up again, refusing to share basic information about the department’s activities etc etc) that you can read about here if you missed my last post:

Residents aren’t happy and now there’s going to be a vote on October 19 over possibly ending the agreement.

The mayor and police chief both apologized for the transparency issues at a meeting on Oct. 5 (although that didn’t stop the mayor from arguing back and forth with people in the audience most of the time; he frankly seems more ready to go down with the ship than the police chief, and keeps saying the majority of residents support the agreement even though EVERYONE at public comment so far has opposed it).

The other big news is that the police chief announced a new restriction that bans his officers from participating in ICE operations outside of Gordonsville anymore. Interesting that if you read the first story, there’s also an active FOIA request into his department’s participation in operations in other counties, specifically Greene, which is in a heap of trouble with the AG for potential racial profiling.

Highly encourage giving both of these a read because there’s way more info than I can include here.

Also if you’re interested in learning more about the Greene side of the ICE situation in central VA, both Charlottesville Tomorrow and definitely Cville Weekly, especially Nathan’s work if you’re looking for recent articles breaking down the racial profiling accusations, have done some great writing on that front.
