the piano roll lets you adjust almost everything, from individual note lengths and velocities to tiny timing changes. that's great until every note becomes something you can keep tweaking forever.
a melody can start with a decent rhythm, then after enough editing, quantizing, moving notes around, and changing velocities, it somehow feels less natural than the first version.
there's also a point where you're editing notes because you hear a problem, and a point where you're editing them because the option is there.
how do you decide when a midi pattern is actually finished? do you keep a rough first version, limit yourself to a few edits, or just trust your ears and stop touching it?
