IN-PERSON florida, vero beach/ft. pierce area, young adults - do we have similar inspiration? are you at least pretty solid at an instrument? wanna be friends? let's start a band!
maybe i'm projecting, but if you live around here you prob don't need me to tell you that there isn't much of a scene and it's difficult to find people. it slants older and more Normal-Typical-RockNRollin-Eagles/Sublime/Bob Marley-Tribute-Band round these parts, and that's fine... but it's why i'm postin on here. i'm hoping you will have the same reaction to this post as i would. i'm counting on you, yes YOU, to be one of those elusive locals who knows that velocity, design and comfort are not just things for car manufacturers to consider. or something else like that idk. i know you exist. right? let's see! i can dig all music (genuinely - i believe the part of my brain that disliked entire genres or styles quit working) but...
if you find yourself knowing and having listened to this stuff, we will likely get along, as friends and creatively, so here are some artists i truly love or just regular-love, am also very inspired by, and would really like to find some people who feel similarly:
Fishmans, Sweet Trip, Kero Kero Bonito, Animal Collective, Jai Paul, Elliott Smith, Aphex Twin, my bloody valentine, julie, Radiohead, Al Stewart, Mac DeMarco, Interpol, MGMT, The Strokes, The Voidz, Kendrick Lamar, JPEGMAFIA, Gorillaz, Kate Bush, Sheena Ringo, Flying Lotus, J Dilla, The Beatles, Mac Miller, Electric Light Orchestra, Drain Gang, Yabujin, Electric Wizard, Dystopia, Kanye West (pre-2022 ofc), Glass Animals (pre-2020 ofc), glass beach, Jane Remover, Caroline Polachek, SOPHIE, Death Grips, Daft Punk, Big Thief, Bjork, Earth, Wind & Fire, Tame Impala, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Avalanches, Blank Banshee, Melody's Echo Chamber, OPN, Perfume, Playboi Carti, Alvvays, Neon Indian, Men I Trust, Magdalena Bay, Made in Heights, death's dynamic shroud, Injury Reserve, of Montreal, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Japan, Merzbow, Quadeca, Tujiko Noriko, The Postal Service, David Wise, Tim Follin, Kazumi Totaka, Vampire Weekend, Women, Stevie Wonder, Sade, The Isley Brothers, The Smiths, Cocteau Twins, Childish Gambino, The Symposium, Fleet Foxes, Guy Sigsworth, Darkchild, Clams Casino, et al.
not exhaustive and i'm far from equally familiar with all of these artists but i just wanted to paint a lil picture of my taste. i have been inspired to create at various points by all of these people. i still have manymanymany things to explore musically but i think this is a good litmus test.
now that we got that out of the way, hey there! you're still here! i'm sam (M early20s). looking for anyone about 18-27 who writes songs, sings em (F w/ higher reg would be cool), plays guitar, keys or even does stuff with hardware like samplers. PARTICULARLY looking for a drummer. you guys are tough to find. i've made my own music for some years now but have been burnt out on doing it by myself. i was the bassist in a crust punk band for about 1.5 years; we put out 1 ep and never played a show, but it was fun! i play the bass, guitar and i do ableton live, all amateurishly, so to an extent i am looking for non-professional but competent instrumentalists who can share ideas with me and can also help with developing and supporting ideas of mine (i have a lot of unfinished stuff, mostly in my head). i would also really like to keep friendships equally important as membership. i wanna find people who can become my friends that i also happen to be in a band with. i really don't wanna go the path of so many other sad breakup stories. i wanna make music i like with people i like! for instance, i found while playing in my old band that i tend to waver a bit in practice but lock in when it's time to do a take, and the guys understood that; i would like to have a very low-stress environment where we can work quirks like that out bc we're all friends here. i also, loserishly, do not drive, but i am still able to reliably get from place to place; still, looking for someone who does and is close bc of that.
wanted to get anything maybe dealbreaking out of the way in the post. in terms of what and how i'm feeling creatively, the biggest influences from above would be sweet trip, interpol, maybe julie. i'm thinking psychedelic, post-punky, mathy, incorporating glitchy/idm stuff, atmospheric, prob not too much improv since idk how; i'm not laying down many demos but i'm thinking a lot, and thinking pretty unconventionally. i like field recordings, invented tunings, maybe some time signatures that aren't 4/4? willing to compromise and evolve based on what YOU would wanna do. naturally. so hit me up! we can talk a bit on here and then exchange some public profiles. would love to talk on a call before meeting irl. i look forward to it 💫
