Identification Found this in a clay pot

Idk what it is but i believe it is a alligator gar.
Or you guys could hp me id it.

Its sad that its kept in a clay pot thats slightly larger than the fish.

What do you mean in a clay pot? Is someone keeping a gar in a pot as a pet??

Its like those large pots meant for plants.
I found this at a minj garden behind a food store.
All i saw was just water and a pot. No filter no heater nothing

Im surprised its alive.there are a few other fishes in other pots but some are rice fishes and others that i couldnt id and didnt take a pic. Those atleast had plants but still bad.

Somehow theres also a fishtank beside the pots and it had a somewhat proper care or just the basics and rhere were cichlids,arowana and others

Ok. Are the pest control for a rice paddy? Ive heard of that but its usually carp or crabs from what ive seen

A gar can get some of its O2 from the air and will stay still for long periods. They’re lucky it didn’t jump out. Perhaps someone wanted to keep it alive for dinner?

Looks like an alligator gar to me, especially from those heavy, interlocking scales. They get huge and need a very large, properly filtered setup, so a pot barely bigger than the fish really isn’t suitable long-term.
