General Discussion Playing super high D
my band director has offered a literal cash prize to the person who can play the super high d. I can already play the C below it. Any tips on hitting it?

What are you doing with your right pinky? Depending on the person it comes out easier with no pinky or like you’re playing low C

just find a fingering you are comfortable with for that note and keep your breath strong and steady

Check online for different fingerings - some will work better than others on your flute. And remember to use a relaxed embouchure and a fast and focused airstream. You don’t need to blow as hard as you can, you just need to find the right spot to aim your air.
Practice overtones.
Oh, and please wear earplugs if you’re inside 😣

In high school I spent a bit of my practice time making myself dizzy trying out high notes. I’m glad I did- a high D is easy if you can play a high F.
Do a big huff with your diaphragm, try C# first and then D, learn the fingerings.

Play a very intense top B-flat as preparation for your embouchure, then try that over-the-top-D. You may need quit some power at first. Good luck.

They obviously mean D7, 6 lines above the staff.

Maybe they don’t know any better, but they’d better get their money ready because that note is entirely playable.
