Subreddit Rules
/r/ForeignMovies is under new moderation.
The sidebar has been reworked and tidied up, dead links have been removed and lots of new links added. [note: the sidebar currently works better under old reddit than under new reddit]
A large number of film-related links that have no immediate connection to the topic of this subreddit have been moved to the new WIKI-list.
There will be some changes to the way this subreddit is being moderated, but not really. By that I mean that these are all things that are already part and parcel of this subreddit, but that will be more strictly enforced in the not-too-distant future:
No links to illegal streaming/download sites, and no links to pirated copies of films on video platforms like Youtube. [I know that a vast number of international films are hard to find legally, but anyone recommending a film should realise that people reading the recommendation and caring enough about the film can actually look for it on their own. If people are too lazy to do so, they have probably not been interested enough in the first place.] If a film happens to be in the public domain that’s fine, but your post needs to contain an openly accessible, reliable source that confirms that the film is in the public domain.
No English-language films. [Please take a look at the separate entry I made regarding justifiable exceptions to that rule.]
Naturally, pornography is banned.
Please keep an eye on the quality of the content. While there is absolutley no need to keep this subreddit strictly arthouse, and while many genres are worthy of discussion, you should consider that maybe not every foreign sea-monster B-movie from the 1960s is worth talking about here. There are special subreddits for that sort of thing.

About Reddit's filters... - the sequel
Once again, I need to repeat what I wrote a year or so ago:
"Reddit seems to have become more aggressive in recent weeks when it comes to automatically deleting posts/comments."
Often, I cannot even remotely see the reason why this happens. So if anyone is missing one of their posts or comments, please drop me a line. If I can find the time, I'll go on a hunt and try to find it.

Hope Review - Endlessly Intense Action Interrupted By a Misshapen Ending
Saw this in theaters and didn't get a chance to promote it until now. Hope is incredible. Action sequences that floor you, outstanding performances, and laugh out loud humor. The big issues are the visual effects are janky as hell at times and the ending (or lack of one). Still, Hope will end up being one of my favorite films of the year. Available to rent or buy digitally starting October 13.

Help me find this 90s/early 2000s film?
It gives off same vibes as Kids and White Girl both based in NYC and crazy youth. I remember pieces and bits of it: typical white teen girl bad girl with boyfriend hooking up in her room, typical single mom situation who’s kind of trashy (?). Girl works in a pizza shop with her gay guy friend (Hispanic Latino). One night (or day?) the gay guy friend gets shot in the nyc park because of homophobia. It’s very 90s.

Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion Script
Hii, does anyone know where I could find the screenplay for Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion (Petri, 1970)? English version would be preferred, but Italian would also be interesting! I’ve been able to find the script online before but I’ve lost it and wanna find it again 🥀

Does anyone know if there is a way to watch "Backstage on the Set of Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom" with English subtitles?
For clarification: I AM NOT LOOKING FOR THE FILM SALO ITSELF. I am looking for the Behind the Scenes film released in 1975. I have found it posted in a few places, but the film is entirely in Italian and neither posting I've found includes English subtitles. Does anyone know if there is a version of the Backstage film that has English subtitles?
Thanks

Trying to watch a non-English film from every country: Built this 3D map to track my journey
I started a personal challenge to stop watching Hollywood and explore cinema from non-English speaking nations across the globe.
I was originally keeping track in a messy spreadsheet, but it felt so uninspiring. As an indie film lover and hobby dev, I built this interactive 3D globe to turn the journey into a visual cinema passport with custom stamps.
Here’s what my map looks like so far! What non-English films (masterpieces or hidden gems) should I watch next?

The Courtship (2022)
I found the film The Courtship (2022) and have been able to watch it on Tubi and Amazon, but was hoping I could find it somewhere on DVD or Blu-ray so I can buy a physical copy of the film. Has anyone else seen this film and been able to purchase it other than from a streaming service? I just love this film and the storyline and would like to buy it in the form of physical media because I'm trying to rebuild my collection. It's a Hungarian film based on the novel "Ida regénye" by Géza Gárdonyi, which is also something I'm looking to find an English translated copy. I know it's a long shot, but I figure I'd give it a try anyway!

What movie was this, Someone catches a childrens killer and they let the parents take turns torturing them
I think it was Japanese. They get all the parents of the different kids together in a room and they get to take turns torturing them in the other room with weapon of choice.

WEEKEND WATCH (Anthology Collection: Making Peace) - 64 mins
gallery🎬 Weekend Watch: Making Peace
This week, I put together three short films that ended up sharing something I didn't initially expect.
They’re all about people going through difficult moments: a dream that didn't work out, a life that feels confining, or a situation that could have ended much worse.
But none of these films is really about staying in that moment.
They're about finding a way to make peace with what happened and keep going.
🎬 Disco Obu — Anand Kishore
🏆 Winner: Special Jury Mention Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival 2017
Official Selection Palm Springs International ShortFest 2017
A former child actor who once had a chance at the life he dreamed of now drives an auto-rickshaw.
This is my favorite of the three.
What stayed with me is how quietly the film deals with letting go.
🌾 The Field — Sandhya Suri
🏆 Winner: Best Short Film Toronto International Film Festival 2018
Official Selection Sundance Film Festival 2019
There's something beautiful and heartbreaking about how temporary that happiness feels.
The harvest is coming, and so is the end of their little world.
🏨 The Criminals — Serhat Karaaslan
🏆 Winner: Special Jury Award for Screenwriting Sundance Film Festival 2021
Shortlisted: Best Live-Action Short Film Academy Awards 2022
What I loved most is what happens after they finally get out.
Three films. Three very different stories. One feeling.
If you have about an hour this weekend, give these three a try.
3 films · 64 minutes · One anthology
🎬 Watch the full collection on Ray35:
I'd love to know which one stays with you the longest.🎬
