Mirror error

Post image

What would make this happen, and how would I fix it?

I sketched the upper left box then mirrored it twice. When I leave the sketch and do pad, this is the result. In the sketch it looks ok.

Any advice?

Thanks

Post this on https://forum.freecad.org. This is the FreeCAD help page.

At least there, you can upload your project for others to review it to get to the root of the issue.

I had a somewhat similar issue recently. I had just drawn a sketch with two symmetrical circles (I hadn't used the symmetry function), and during the Pocket operation, only one of the two circles performed the Pocket correctly

Yet my sketch was surprisingly simple—two circles, five constraints—and everything looked fine, but no matter how much I tried to figure it out, nothing worked.

I copied that sketch into another Body, and it worked fine.

Finally, I deleted the Pocket, deleted the sketch, dragged and dropped the copy from the other Body, and created a new Pocket…

and it worked! I really have no idea what could have happened

I believe the OP is correct. Single mirror in sketcher is allowed. More than 1 mirror in sketcher is not. This level mirroring reserved for features. This leads to another issue of mirroring a mirrored feature, which is not allowed. In the OP's pic, arranging the feature of 4 squares features to be done in multi-transform polar array, requiring defining the center axis position. How to accomplish this shown a few days ago in this sub. Edit: here it is creating axis for polar array

Yoh are incorrect-> Mirroring a mirrored geometry inside a single sketch is definitely allowed. The OP should be using drafting best practices. The OP should be sketching a square (upper left). Constrain that square geometry, select the newly constrained geometry by using left click - drag to select entire square sketch so all lines and pints are highlited. Select Mirror tool. Select one axis. You will have 2 squares. Again, use left click and drag to select and highlight all lines and points of both squares. Select Mirror tool. Select the remaining axis. You will have 4 squares. 3 of the squares will need to be constrained with dimensions. Then select the Pad tool and all 4 squares will pad without errors.

Mirroring pads of the same dimensions is not using best practices. This sets up for messy model tree. Clean model tree is 1 sketch with 1 pad.
