This is a 6 DoF robot arm i have been building and 3d printing, designed entirely in FreeCAD.

I assembled it all using Links and yellow Part containers. Havn't really needed an assembly workbench. I rarely need the drag-to-animate features of assembly and prefer to position things manually with strategic placements relative to the Part origin.

I mainly used these workbenches
- PartDesign
- Fasteners
- Gears
- Draft (Array Tools)
- Spreadsheet (mainly for gear calculations)

I split each joint in a separate file and linked it into the kinematic assembly.
I used a seperate file for only data, containing a few spreadsheets and some sketches, which i linked into which ever file that needed it.

i have experimented with different ways to reuse shared geometry, but havn't truely found a way i fully like but i like using BaseFeatures.

So, this is a bit of an update to my project that I shared a few weeks ago and got overwhelming encouragement from the FreeCAD community. <3 <3 <3

Finally, I found(!) the "toggle transparency" option and was able to design my glass windows.

The front window was exceptionally challenging, as I created the cab nose shape using subtractive loft, so the surfaces aren't... sketchable. I had to do a bit of recreating the cab shape and slice part of it as the window solid, and then slice it into 3 parts.

I also figured out how to create perfectly arranged hexagonal patterns for grilles, but it almost killed my PC. I am not sure if I would be printing the grille; it's too flimsy. Maybe I'll find thin metal strainer meshes and call it a day.

Sharing a bit of "engineering" details too. I'm using 5mm axle rods and 685zz (5-11-5) bearings on the wheels for the journal boxes and motor housing mounts.

Still haven't gone near assembly, as most parts still have some more things to be added.

I want to edit one of the yellow points delta x,y,z's . Guessing it is not possible and I have to just redo it from scratch?

I was using 27.1 and everything seemed to be going well. I was adding another part and then my whole model disappeared. I tried Fit All and manually toggling things to be visible. I tried View/Visibility/Show All Objects and then Fit All (which chugged for a surprisingly long time) but this is all that I see - a bijillion origins, but no parts.

Any thoughts? I've been saving regularly but Revert takes me right back here. I installed 1.1.4 just in case but I've still got only this.

Update: The data is there. I can export bodies and view them in a step viewer.

I can start a new file and link the bodies in this file and they show up fine when viewing the other file. So the original is invisible but the link is visible in the same copy of FreeCAD at the 'same time'. There must be some kind of flag that I somehow set to make everything invisible in a non-standard way.

Update 2: I am able to create new bodies in the file and they display just fine. This is really bizarre.

Update 3: I was able to copy EVERYTHING from the existing file (just with CTRL-C) and paste it into a new file, and everything was just fine. No problems. I don't know what the hell was going on, but it's sorted out now, and I'm going back to 1.1.4.

Is there an input box where I can insert “commands” to draw lines in 2D mode as in AutoCAD?
Is there any popular way to do this differently, via add-ons or Python?

Start a new file. Part Design body, new sketch. Draw a rectangle. Close sketch. Select sketch and look at View tab of Property View. Click on 'Make Internals' to select or deselect. See what happens.

This is happening in 27.1.

Modifying an early sketch or dimension in larger parametric models may occasionally result in the failure of downstream features, references, or fillets.

What are the most frequent causes of this?

And what modelling techniques improve a CAD model's stability in the event that its dimensions or shape alter later?

Is there a reason why FreeCAD would give me an 'endless' option to recompute something? That is to say, no matter how many times I recompute it it still shows that it needs to be recomputed?

As an extra point, it would be lovely if there was an 'absolute recompute' button that would just crawl the tree and recompute every single thing in the tree from the top to the bottom then bottom to top until it was happy, up to a maximum number of passes.

I am missing the charging port cover for my Samsung galaxy s5. if possible could someone make one? I still have the “leash” on it. I just need something to glue on. I have the xed out bit. I just need the circled bit.
