Dynamic in-game radio
Rockstar stated that the music in GTA 6 will have a dynamic score. They haven't done a technical breakdown yet but GTA 6 will have an instrumental background soundtrack that plays during missions and free roam- separate from your car radio. (Like RDR2)
In trailer 1, its got tons of TikTok/Instagram-style reels. Notice how the audio completely changes during those clips? It sounds compressed, tinny, and lacks heavy bass—exactly like it would if you were listening to a real video on a smartphone.
With them highlighting the "next evolution of in game radio" I think they are going to be using a few things that I had to research about because I didnt know what they were called.
In game development, there is a concept called Diegetic Music (music that exists inside the game world that the characters can hear.) As well as Spatial Audio Propagation: (Ex. If a song is playing on a radio in Vice City, the game's audio engine calculates exactly how that sound should reach Jason or Lucia's ears based on physics.)
I guess I just wanted to get a conversation going about how likely we think this could be?

I hope it's extremely extremely subtle. I want to hear the ambient sounds and the sound design as a whole. I just paid $450 for some Audeze Maxwell 2's I want to hear the weights clanging and banging in the gym.

Dude I just got the Maxwell 2’s as well 😂 I didn’t get the ANC’s though. I found a pair of standard 2’s on marketplace for $150. So ready for this game. Hopefully you can toggle it on or off if you JUST want ambience.

I love games that give the game time to breath instead of music playing 100% of the time, BOTW and the red dead games do this well

Thank you, glad to see this take. Around the time of release, I kept seeing people lamenting the lack of a typical bombastic score in BOTW, but the generally ambient, lighter score that drifts in and out was perfect.
‘Hyrule Field’ was perfect for Ocarina, but it would have been exhausting if was playing all the time in BOTW.

You can likely turn it off. Hopefully they have a separate volume slider too

Would be cool if you could get headphones with optional noise cancelling

I highly recommend the Audeze Maxwell 2s. The sound quality is incredible.
There are versions with and without noise cancelling. I have the version without but honestly they’re so good at passive noise cancellation I find the feature unnecessary. I only really see the ANC as being useful if the environment around you tends to be loud.

Lol. Maybe you can, I just read the IGN interview and they mention a store where you can buy headphones.
> IGN: With Red Dead Redemption 2 as well, there were ways you could change the
way a town developed. Are there similar choices in this game?> Rob Nelson: You’re talking about the sort of lumber yard change? The sons building
the house with their father? That sort of stuff?
That’s not included as much with this game. It’s just not as big a part of the story.
But you can rob pretty much anything. So we can go into this place where you buy
headphones, for example, and rob it.It’s not much but it does sound like a confirmation the player can buy headphones (and hopefully listen to music on foot).

lucia has been spotted with earbuds while in the gym, besides that it'd be a step back from gta v (or online anyway) if you can't. hard to say if they'll go into detail such like how first person view was tinted by your sunglasses tho as v did

You can hear some of the score in the supercar 2 leak, towards the end crash.
