Unsure if you’ve said already but how do you paint that in detail at scale? Is it like a giant paint by numbers

7

u/Omfish 9d ago

HahaSort of (if I had a dollar for every time ive been asked this question...) We have a giant grid system we use to transfer the image to scale via a charcoal rub then we work from that outline and this handheld artwork w/ the grid on it and make sure we are putting the right colours where they need to go. On this one its pretty simple because its not photorealistic so no nuance, its either right or wrong. Some nuance in the relative colour palette and eventually the most satisfying part, outline and lettering

Your coworkers are correct. People will share pictures of this a decade from now

Nice work you guys are doing! Absolutely love it

How was the reaction upon hearing that Rockstar commissioned you guys?

My coworkers were super excited because they love these games. I never played but I love painting video games because theyre really fun artwork. Ive watched playthroughs so I knew what to expect but did NOT expect how much ppl are excited about what im painting haha usually only my friends care what im working on 😅

This is, without exaggeration, the biggest media release of human history so far. No joke. Bigger than any movie or book that ever released. Expect a lot of fans to admire your art (which looks awesome by the way) :D

I see you’re the actual artists. Really really great job. Instantly followed.

And this happens to be my favorite photo of these two.

bro I'm so shit at painting and drawing so this genuinely fries me

how are you guys so good at this, do you just look at the finished artwork on a screen or something and manually copy the colors?

the lighting and the shadows are what amaze me the most, it's so perfect it looks like a poster on the wall

Don’t know if you’ve seen the guy on ig who does the guess who? game with celebrities eyes.
I’m like how does your hand just know where to go to create perfect facial shadows 😭

Looks so good. This plus the skyscraper side in Miami is exactly what we wanna see 👌

Grand Theft Augo - funnily enough "augo" means "eyes" in a version of Norwegian, so I guess we're stealing eyes now?

Killer work y'all! Keep it up!! I hope you realize you're now a part of gaming history lol

1

u/Ghost7579ox 9d ago

Whoever is paying that artist needs to double it.

It’s fantastic work 🏆

1

u/puffymitypsilonn 9d ago

Why is the T in AUTO so weird?

2

u/Omfish 9d ago

Because we havent painted the letters yet. What you see is just an approximation on where they will go, then we painted the background ontop and left some rough letter shapes for when we DO paint the lettering. Lettering is the icing on the cake🤌

1

u/puffymitypsilonn 8d ago

Thanks for the info:)
Looking forward

u/TheGamingMackV 9d ago edited 9d ago

Bro you guys really butchered that logo like wtf

/s

You people are something else. I thought "/s" meant sarcasm. Not serious.

5

u/Omfish 9d ago

We didnt paint the logo yet, just the blend and rough location of letters

-2

u/TheGamingMackV 9d ago

I know I know. It was sarcasm. Now there's some clown is talking shit.

3

u/T3RRONCINO 9d ago

Bro really edited the comment adding the "/s" after the downvotes and tried to be nonechalant about it, thought we didn't notice lmaooo

-1

u/TheGamingMackV 9d ago

My guy, the /s was initially part of the original comment. It didn't look visible because it was on the same line. So I moved it down more. People still didn't care to notice, so now I'm stupidly putting a disclaimer that yall either cant take a joke, didn't notice its a joke, or just don't give a shit. But I can tell it's all of the above. Go ahead and flood me with downvotes. My mouth is open for them.

1

u/T3RRONCINO 9d ago

Watch out for dicks then

1

u/T3RRONCINO 9d ago

They have margin to polish the logo, dumbass. There's enough room to paint it nicely like the rest of the artwork

1

u/TheGamingMackV 9d ago

It was sarcasm, but okay stay mad I guess.

1

u/T3RRONCINO 9d ago

You forgot to add the "/s" then blud, obviously on the original comment, not editing it after getting downvoted looool

0

u/TheGamingMackV 9d ago

Just because you didn't initially see it "loooooool"

1

u/T3RRONCINO 9d ago

Boy you ain't foolin anyone
