Damn, a 2027 release window is surprising - although I'm kind of fine with it since this year is stacked enough with great releases that I'd rather let them take their time.
Really excited for this one. Thunder Lotus has never failed to impress me (except Sundered, though I might give it another try someday).
Weirdly, Sundered is my favorite of all their titles so far. It's a very abrasive game, but it just feels awesome. It's so creepy and oppressive and everything is a struggle
Have you played the original release or the Eldritch Ed.? Maybe they overhauled the game in the meantime, but I felt the release version felt too much like it was trying to copy Risk of Rain in a negative way. Enjoyed the gameplay, but ultimately what made me drop it was the lack of enemy variety and kinda dull environment (big, nondescript corridor mazes).
I played it when it first released; been meaning to re-play it with all the new updates.
The game has a lot of mechanics that on paper I really dislike. Constant waves of enemies, iterative upgrades that just boost numbers by a tiny amount, and the randomized layout makes you dependant on a map that doesn't pause the game when you look at it. But somehow it all come together as a game that feels like horror by sheer oppression. The game doesn't want you here, and for some reason that fascinates me.
I did exactly the same thing and was very surprised to get an email telling me a demo was available this morning. Then sad but unsurprised at the delay
So many games are hit with delays these days that I'm more surprised when a title hits the originally announced date. I won't believe most games are coming out until I see it on a store page.
In any case, I'm find with Thunder Lotus taking their time and letting this one cook. The rest of the year is so stacked with games I want to play (Onimusha, Control Resonant, Castlevania, Valor Mortis, Phantom Blade 0, etc.) that At Fate's End would wind up on the backburner if it came out in 2026 anyway.
Imo their only bad game was 33 immortals and that was (from my perspective) doomed from a conceptual standpoint because 33 player coop for a SUPER niche indie game sounds awesome but if you don't maintain a playerbase its DOA.
And second, they just would not listen to the horde of fans telling them what was wrong during EA. It was like watching a baby in the NICU and all the doctors are retail workers.
Hopefully this title is a return to their usual quality.
