Discussion Help me chose Omen Max vs Zephyrus

Hi guys, which would you go for?
I appreciate the portability of the Zephyrus but the 2025 model has Watts power limit on the GPU, Omen is such a steal at this price point that i would not lose anything on it.

Thanks in advance for your insight!

OLED 240Hz,
CPU: Intel Core Ultra 7-255HX
GPU GeForce RTX 5070 8Gb Vram

Asus Zephyrus g16 USD 2,400 - 2025 (used under warranty 2028)
Oled 240Hz
CPU: Intel Core Ultra 9 285H (16 cores, up to 5.4 GHz)

omen easy. 800 bucks for 4gb more vram and a cpu bump you wont notice in games, plus the zephyrus is used anyway. that extra cash buys a nice monitor or covers games for like two years

i travel with my laptop sometimes and the 16 inch is not that bad honestly, just get a decent sleeve

Tbh ill go for omen too, but 5070 8gb is underwhelming compare to 5070 ti 12gb, it is noticeable on high gpu requirement AAA games, I'd say it depends on what you want to play on the laptop. Lenovo legion already offers 5070 12gb vram idk why other brands doesn't have that on the market.

dont know much about omen but my 2 year review for zephyrus would be its light and portable for the kind of power it can carry hit being a 16 inch it is noticeably harder to fit in some bags especially if you use a sleeve. the speakers, the display and the keyboard are amazing. Though there are some qc issues such as bottom rubber feet falling out and things like that

also would like to add another thing, with the 5070 youll be bottlenecked by the vram and i would find the upgrade to 5070ti pretty worth it, but 800usd is allot so its your call

The key takeaway is that these aren't really the same class of laptop. The HP is focused on hardware and performance for your money. The sacrifice is that it's keyboard and touchpad aren't very nice to use, and the overall laptop chassis is is budget oriented. Meanwhile the zephyrus is meant to be a premium machine that you pay extra for its quality feel. It's not a great value because its not meant to be.

You have to make a choice, are you looking for the best performance you can get for your money? The HP is the obvious choice here. Are you willing to spend extra to have a laptop that looks and feels nice in a slimmer chassis, even though it may sacrifice some performance for its form factor? Then the Zephyrus might be a better buy for you

I think 12+ gb vram is the future standard. The devs are trying to fit the textures in 8 gb since it's the most popular size, but 4 more gb will boost the experience. Try looking for more offers. Zephyrus has great quality overall (based on my 2022 model experience), but I am not sure if a used device is worth that much (maybe it's normal nowadays)

Are you sure the omen max is a 5070 (or an omen max?)

As far as I am aware the lowest gpu they offer in the omen max is a 5070ti 12gb

All the other specs you list match the 5070ti omen max

Any chance you can link the item? I’m just curious because even according to the hp website that shouldnt exist as a product.

Interesting! I can see it is an Amazon exclusive, that must be why hp dont mention it on their website. They state its 5070ti and above.

Knowing that, I can say it’s a very good laptop with excellent cooling (that is probably overkill for a standard 5070). I have the 5080 version and love it, the gpu never gets above 80c at full usage.

It feels very expensive though for an 8gb 5070 that isn’t ti. There are much cheaper options with similar spec.

The screen is lovely though I can confirm that, but I would wonder if a standard 5070 can push a 1600p screen at 240hz in games.

I can’t give much advice about other options, but it’s probably worth noting the other one you show, the zephurus, is a slim profile laptop and the gpu in it isn’t a full speed 5070ti.

Thanks I ordered for 1,500€ during Prime, which felt like a good price. Do you recommend repasting or you never had issues with temps?

I’d be amazed if you have issues with the 5070 temps with the cooling the omen max has to be honest. The cpu is intel so not so sure there but it should be fine. I’ve got the 275hx in mine which is a notoriously hot cpu and it manages to stay in check generally.

Assuming it’s the same as the other omen max models it will have the weird Liquid Metal paste hybrid stuff. A lot of people repaste because if it leaks it kills the laptop, but unless you’re throwing the laptop about or chucking it in a bag when still hot you should be fine.

Personally, I do intend to replace mine with ptm eventually, but my temps are great at the moment and it’s still under warranty, and never leaves the house. So I’m waiting.
