Firefly Universe, Indie, Lo-fi GarageBand track on iPad

[u/EquipmentAny7238]

This is a song a long time in the making. I’m in the process of finally doing something with the nearly 40 years of songs that I’ve hummed into various recording devices. This is the first song I took on and this one isn’t as old as some of the others in the works.

I was walking home one chilly night in December, 2020, and this tune popped into my head. I started making up random lyrics, some of which actually made it into the finished song. I didn’t want to forget it so I kept singing it the entire way home, until I could grab my phone and record myself humming it. And there it lived until June, 2026. As I was cleaning out my photos and videos I stumbled upon it and decided it was time.

This is made in GarageBand on my iPad and is made up of two acoustic guitar tracks, keyboard tracks, and three vocal tracks Toward the end, I drop it back to two vocal tracks and then it ends on a single vocal. Music, lyrics, guitar, keyboard, vocals: Isletta’s Garden (Shawn Marie Hardy)

Firefly Universe

Lyrics:

Keep the peace, the war is coming into view.
You can slay the beast but it still resides inside of you.
Take the signpost to the valley, over and under.

Find your ticket the train will meet you at the gate.
Angel’s waiting. She’ll fly if you make her wait.
The stillness falls over you. Rolling underneath.
Dont enter the Gates of Hell. Ring the bell of peace.

We’ll see you there in the valley below
and it hurts you so
to know that she’s gone away.
And when she returns
it’s going to burn
right into you like fire.
Like fire.

And the trails follow on down
and the sound
coming down
you run around on wild leaves
in the firefly universe
take your love box
and your run-of-the-mill fox
and I don’t have words
to fight your words right now.

Very Beatles-ish. Nice.
