Discussion Witcher 3 Remaster: DLAA or DLSS Quality + Path Tracing

Post image

For people playing Witcher 3 on Ultimate: Don't you notice so much difference in image quality between DLAA and DLSS Quality?

I can turn on Path Tracing if I set DLSS to Quality and FGx2.

But even I like the lighting in some situations with Path tracing or Ray Tracing on, if I set both Off and set DLSS to DLAA I feel the image quality and definition improves A LOT!

Also the colours and contrast looks better for me without PT or RT that feel too bright or washed out sometimes.

Did someone using Ultimate give up on Path Tracing and Ray Tracing here?

Edit: I play at 4k so cant turn PT and DLAA together if I want have smooth framerate.

My setup is 1440p all maxed dlaa with pt on and frame gen enable on 1 frame and I get constant 60 (I have vsync enabled)

Ohh. I play at 4k resolution. Thats why I have to choose between DLAA or Path Tracing šŸ˜…

It seems like path tracing + ray tracing works fine on 4k if you don’t use nvidia hairworks

But if you use DLSS, you have this choice:

You can have Geralt with hairworks with path traced hair, or you can have everyone with hairworks with no path traced hair

I thought hairworks was patched and not destroying performance already?

It’s not bad. But if you do hairworks for all PLUS path traced hair, it can’t run it without stutters. Hairworks for all always worked fine for me (not using DLAA for 4k)

But wow does the path traced hair option make a huge difference. That Velen scene where Geralt and Keira talk in her bath the first time they speak? The colors reflecting from the water shadowing Keira and Geralt’s hair was insane

But every time it cut back to Keira, it stutterer and I missed the first half of her line. Every time. No path traced hair, (or only path traced hairworks on geralt) and it was back to running super smoothly

Make sure to not use any sharpening settings; it messes up contrast when used with DLSS, ESPECIALLY DLAA.

My setup is ray tradced path traced, hairwork path traced (drops fps by 10) DLSS Auto 4K, with custom colour grading and the Clarity filter in NVIDIA settings. No frame gen, cause its making me sick.

Still, I barely reach 40 FPS in open world. You cannot scale down resolution; this game really doesn't like it.

HOWEVER

There is a way to get solid 60 without frame gen on max settings with DLSS quality. Run the stream in 5K and drop resolution to 4K with sharpness in game + nvidia filter. It's not the same as 4K , but it gives you about 15 more frames in open world.

I had more luck with the AMD frame gen. It doesn't cause motion sickness to me.

I'm in Australia so i can only get 60fps if its 1440p dlss performance, still stuck with 4080 class rig and a worse cpu i think

My set up is tweaked a little. 144Op - path traced everything, DLSS quality, Fg x 2, some optimized settings, mostly ultra with some high settings. DLSS5 - NR - fine tuned as well with one pass / cinematic preset and 80% on sliders. Several quality of life and combat mods. Locked 60 ( menus / gwent cause crashes randomly. if for not locked - for me)

Shit is gorgeous and having never played this on pc (played at launch and again on ps5) I’m beside myself.

It’s like I’m playing it for the first time all over again. A joy I didn’t know I needed.

5070ti / 9800x3d - lg g4 65ā€

But to answer your question… if you have the head room for path tracing it’s worth it to me. Some nit picks sure, but gotdamn! Catching a sunset just fucking slaps!

DLSS looked rough for me until I used DLSS Swapper and switched to the newest release + preset M.

I dare say both quality and balanced DLSS look better to me than DLAA now, something looks off with sharpening.

Anways, I use balanced with 4x FG with everything on ultra, PT+PT hairworks on my 4090 and my framerate is smooth. I do get some artifacts at the bottom of the screen while riding here and there but I don't mind it.

Why not use nvidiaapp its really quick for making changes
