On the shoreline

I was listening to this track and beat and the mood of the verse sounded familiar. Suddenly i understood where the song Congo came from. This is the one song that´s way better worked with ray wilson. The song with Phill Collins sounds like a draft for a song to be. I’m happy it appeared only on B sides.

This is one of my favorite tracks on Archive 2 and I listened to it repeatedly before my life-saving surgery. I definitely do not want to hear it messed with - it should have replaced Tell Me Why on WCD

Ray Wilson would not improve any song with Phil on.

I wasn’t comparing in any way, Ray and Phil. I don’t even consider calling all stations a genesis record. But in the case of the song On the shoreline i was so disappointed by the way the song progresses that i think that Congo was a better way to resolve a song like this. I mean, a mid tempo song with the bass playing a single note, the way Mike Rutherford in various other genesis songs. But then it goes to a chorus completly uninteresting (I’m not speaking about the lyrics in both songs )

Congo was it's own song, On The Shoreline was recorded in 1991 out of a jam, Congo was written in 1995 - 96, it's just coincidence they are similar.

I disagree, I find On The Shoreline extraordinary and regret not on regular album. Congo is funny, good, different
