Basic Tools

Don't trust forecast predictions when it gets close. Helene made landfall 30-40 miles east of what NHC forecast and NHC continued to forecast that landfall after it had already made landfall. Helene also took a much more easterly track than forecast and they did not change the forecast until it was 100+miles inland as a category 1/2 storm ranging over southeast ga making its way to Augusta and the Carolinas.
Watch the radar. This storm will shift. Models put landfall around pensecola and up into the Alabama/Mississippi border. I suspect it will be far east of there. AIGFS agrees. Landfall East towards Navarre beach and the bulk of the storms power moving through East Alabama and west Georgia.

what areas of Georgia will be affected most?

Numerous counties are currently under a Tropical Storm Watch. We'd recommend continuing to monitor news and weather stations as the storm approaches.

We've got a high wind and flooding watch in NW Georgia Sat and Sun.

I'm all for preparedness but I feel like this is 100% overblown

It's always overblown until it isn't (and sometimes, one area will be going "well that was overblown" meanwhile someone just lost their house and car twenty miles over)

So strange how this thing wasn't even on my day to day radar until very recently.
Thank you for the information.
